View Full Version : "Lunar Eclipse"
"this is just some weird unfunny dream sequence"
agnes and herbert are engaged. macguilacuddy makes friends with herbert. mark charnock comes to town.
mark hires a detective to find the man annie has been seeing. he confides in dave. dave then tricks annie into believeing he is a cheating dog so she will go back to her husband. it worked.
the detective follows bert and ends up breaking his jaw. he and agnes get married and everyone ends up in the swimming pool.
david goes to the office and is told the show has been cancelled. maddie is told the news and they run frantically to get married. but it doesn't happen.
the montage at the end was great.
loved the opening credits here..."walter bishop as Cy". that was a good inside joke. good to see dennis dugan was here to the end.
and that, sadly, was it.....
rating: 7
Hated the whole episode except for the montage and even that was tainted since it is the very end
kismet 11-04-2004, 10:55 AM The only part of this episode that I have watched in many years is the montage scene. Whenever I think I have the courage to watch it, I just remember how much I hated it, and I run (no walking) to get an episode that I really love. Thumbs down for this one.
MulberryGal 11-04-2004, 11:39 AM I'm not following you Kismet, honest!
I don't like this epi. I didn't mind it at one point, but since I've been watching the season 2 and 3 epis, this one seems lame and half-assed.
The writers didn't give us what we wanted (D&M together), even though at the end of Season 4, D&M were getting closer again at times. When I watch this, I feel a real sense of anti-climax, it's not an ending, it's a cop out!

I gotta agree with what everyone else has said. Terrible episode for several reasons. First, it had only ONE (bad, silly) scene between Maddie and David until the "chase" scene at the end. I could only speculate as to why but I won't. Second, the ending was basically a rip off of "Camille". We'd already seen them walk off the set, etc. Most importantly, it didn't give us any resolution between David and Maddie. We spent three episodes on this storyline and we needed to see them finally come to terms with their relatonship. I couldn't decide if the last scene was supposed to be David and Maddie or Bruce and Cybill. Even with the nice montage, we needed more at the end.
CindyK 11-04-2004, 03:08 PM This is my least favorite episode of all of ML...and I am not even a fan of the montage...since it felt like filler to me. I would have rather taken those few minutes to have some relationship resolution between Maddie & David instead of being reminded how wonderful this show USED TO BE.
But the absolute abomination in this episode is the ridiculous wedding scene of Bert & Agnes. I can't watch that thing without thinking how un-funny the whole thing is. Besides just when you think there might be a chuckle or two in it with all the people getting knocked in the pool, it cuts to a quick bit at the police station with the mug shots and then do not even show you David and Maddie in that line up....like they are the whole reason you are enduring this awful episode anyway.
Getting rid of Annie was fine...but they should have done it faster, like in the first scene.
How can such a great show go out with such a whimper??
Tazmania 11-04-2004, 03:52 PM This was hasty unfinished business to me!
Yuck.
it ended better than DALLAS. didn't it?
Carina13 11-05-2004, 07:38 AM HATED IT!!!!! YUUUKKKK:mad:
Well, letīs see... The wedding part was OK, and I WAS LOL with that...
But of course, what we wanted was Maddie and Dave together! For God's sake!!! Unbelieavable! I like to think this episode didn't even existed! And then, too, what I think, what I feel... is that their relationship is a very special one, they can't live with eachother and they definitly CAN'T live without eachother. So I just simply think that they'll always be "is you is or is you ain't" That's the way their relationship works... But one thing I'm sure is that they just can't stay apart. That's the way I feel it.

Thanks Carina, you made me feel a bit happier.
I just can't believe they saved the worst for last...:(
gypsygem81 02-20-2005, 11:42 AM Thought I'd pick up on this thread cause I just watched this episode. Didn't really think much of it. The montage at the end was nice, but it all just seemed so rushed. This should have been an opportunity for them to tie up all those loose ends and end everything off nicely. But it really didn't do any of that, except for getting rid of Annie (who I hated). But the sad part about it was, during the final few episodes I just didn't feel anything between Maddie and David anymore. In fact, they seemed to rather dislike each other. I'm not sure it would have been right to have them 'together' at in the final episode anyway. By this time, I didn't even particularly want them to be together. I really did feel like they'd drifted too far apart. Of course, I wanted to see them back together, but it wouldn't have seemed natural to put them back together at this point. Does anyone else get that impression? Or should I duck now?
Love Gem
There were moments in the final few episodes when it almost felt like there could be something between them again eg in When Girls Collide and Maddie goes to David's bedroom and is left devasted when he rushes out after Annie, don't they also dance closely in this one? And David seems to feel something for Maddie when he helps her in Eine Kleine Nacht Murder. But these little sparks couldn't have been developed in just one episode, it needed another season and since that wasn't gonna happen we got what we got :(
Dutchie 02-20-2005, 02:35 PM BOOOHOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!!! :( :( :(
we were never promised a happy ending. the way it ended was a bummer, but closer to life than some final episodes. dave and maddie did drift apart. and couldn't get back on course. that happens. and like in real life, when we decide to change the way things are going, sometimes it's too late.
i hate the way it ended, but i wouldn't want it to have ended any ohter way.
cheryl80 02-21-2005, 12:16 AM Okay--this is the 5th episode and I just don't get Moonlighting. Glen Gordon Caron seems to have gone some place that I just don't understand. It just doesn't seem like a fun show and there seems to be no continuity in the writing. I really don't get it.
And I find myself feeling not entertained, but rather getting ready to call some friends to go out to a movie on a Sunday night to get this episode out of my mind.
I really seemed so unprofessional.
So that's just my thoughts. It seemed like Moonlighting was going to be a treat for me with the jokes, and goofy parts and the chemistry in the episodes threw The Next Murder You Hear. It seemed to be a romantic comedy. But in the last two episodes, there doesn't seem to be anything romantic or funny, and no mystery to fall back on. Just not good story telling.
That's just me. I just don't think Moonlighting is going to be my cup of tea.
wait a minute, this was the last episode of the series. are you watching these in jumbled order? if so, you are missisng the continuity. if you quit now, you may not see what is so good about it.
don't quit, there are a ton of good to excellent episodes for us to talk about.
CindyK 02-21-2005, 02:02 AM I agree bry. It seems that someone who watches season one episodes and then hops to the end of season 5 is going to miss the wonderful development of this delicious relationship.
Try to watch these things in order....and things will become a lot clearer.
cheryl80 02-21-2005, 03:27 AM Oh heck, I found out from Marla that the videos I have are numbered incorrectly. And Marla's date told me Glen Gordon Caron had nothing to do with the last episodes I saw which really helps me emotionally!
The videos have been put in correct order, I'll take a few deep breaths and take up where I left off (The Next Murder You Hear) and go on from there in Correctly numbered tapes. Grrrrr.
oh great. i would hate for you to quit watching now. it is to get so good. and even better than good. i hope you enjoy it as much as i do, if not more.
Carina13 02-22-2005, 02:27 PM Poor Cheryl!!!! Really, bad, bad luck!!! Go and see them IN ORDER, please! And let us know what you think of the rest of this wonderful serie... I have the feeling you're gonna like it as much as we do! Don't think of those last eps right now!
