View Full Version : Lovin' the Season 3 DVD...
Edster2973 11-02-2004, 03:34 PM Hey all,
I am loving this Season 3 DVD, especially the extras. The 2nd pilot was better than the first one and I liked seeing it finally. The Ropers were much more affectionate and not as aloof as they were in Pilot 1.
The tribute to John was mercifully short. I was glad to see the other actors get in on speaking about John, but I do think it was the proper length. After all there's not much more that can be said about John and I think to try to parlay it into a longer segment would've only made it a downer instead of a heartfelt tribute. All in all I don't think John would want that.
The Dave Powers interview was the best. I'm glad that he acknowledged the other actors who were just as important to the show as John was. Richard Kline definitely deserved some credit, as did Joyce & Suzanne. Hopefully there'll be some spotlight on more of the crew as the DVDs come. It was nice to see Norman Fell & Audra Lindley get a nice nod. They were special actors and have been overlooked. And I applaud Dave Powers giving Suzanne her due. I think the grudge between Suzanne & the producers has gone on long enough, and it has cost Suzanne recognition for her contribution to the show. Whether one thinks Suzanne was a jerk or not, she definitely brought more to the show than what she took out.
I noticed Joyce was sporting the same hairstyle that she had for the Season 2 DVD. Was anyone expecting her hair to be different from Season set to Season set like I was? ;)
In case you guessed it, I watched the extras first. Now I'm off to watch the actual episodes. Enjoy folks!
Ed :)

Janet McFarland 11-02-2004, 03:45 PM Thanks for the review! I'm glad you like the DVD! ;)
And about Joyce's hairstyle, in season 3 it's still curly, but she does more things to it, like in 'Good Old Reliable Janet' it's straight and held back, and it looks really nice :D
vashti1999 11-02-2004, 03:48 PM The 2nd unaired pilot was the first thing I watched on this set. I definitely expected another first episode pilot as opposed to an episode that picked up the action after the first episode, thought that was interesting. I also checked out the promos featuring John, but I'll probably save some of the other extras for later. As I type this, I'm watching the first episode (Double Date), but unfortunately the color/picture looks pretty bad. I hope it gets better as the set goes on.

Scratch that. I'm watching on a portable player and had the screen at an angle. After I adjusted it, the picture looks fine.

I don't mean Janet's hairstyle during the show, I meant Joyce's hairstyle during the extras for the DVD. I thought it'd be funny if she sported a new one everytime a new DVD came out... :)

Oh okay.. but yeah I don't know why she doesn't change her hairstyles.. I wish I knew! ;)
Sean Snow 11-03-2004, 08:42 PM I got it yesterday, and I'm loving it thus far. The second pilot was good; I liked it better than the first one. I thought Susan Lanier did a great job as Chrissy.
The bloopers were also fun to watch, although just about all of them seemed to be from season two. I wonder if they're going to include any season three bloopers on the season four set?
I've just glanced through the other special features (the interviews + Remembering John), and they looked pretty good, too.
I'm really looking forward to seeing these episodes uncut - season 3 is probably my favorite season, with 4 not far behind.

chrisw79 11-04-2004, 01:41 PM In the second pilot, I think the cab driver was played by a different actor than the actual episode two.

Thanks, even though I'll be changing it soon.
I really like your avatar. it's cool. Three's Company is probably my favorite sitcom. I need to visit this board more often.

Hmmm, could be that that is indeed the case. What I'm wondering is how many bloopers there'll be for Season 5. I'm sure there had to be some, but supposedly the set wasn't all fine and dandy with everyone being hacked at Suzanne. I wonder if they'll gloss over that or show more Don Knotts for that season (he seems to be the only one who wasn't hacked off at her). It'd be an interesting thing to watch...
Has anyone gotten through some of the episodes? I noticed on mine so far that the episode "Good Old Reliable Janet" had very noticeable yellow lines throughout. Has anyone noticed this? Part of me hopes it isn't just my copy but it'd also stink if all copies were like this. I haven't even finished watching the first disc yet so I'm unaware if there are any more episodes like this. Has anyone else noticed this or anything else just as peculiar? Let me know please...

It's not just your copy. I watched that episode yesterday and also noticed the yellow lines. Unfortunate since that's one of my favorite season 3 episodes. I haven't had the opportunity to watch any more after that, but I hope as well that there aren't more episodes with that bad an image.

I just watched it and mine is like that too. Do you think it is worth exchanging it?? Maybe all the DVD's are like that.

Definitely not worth exchanging, if everyone else has the same thing happening. It's good to know though, so that we're not wasting our time thinking our copies are defective.
It's not that big a deal for me. I certainly enjoyed watching it nonetheless and I'm glad we've made it this far with the show. Even though I hope to have all the seasons eventually, along with the spinoffs, I realize that may not be if sales don't hold up so I'm glad to have any season in my hands. It's more than what I had before.
I've watched the rest of Disc 1 today and it's fine so your copies should be fine as well. Whether or not the other 3 DVDs are ok remains to be seen. The extras on Disc 4 are fine though, since I watched those first. :)
Thanks for your input. I appreciate it! :)

I went back and watched that episode again and I see the yellow lines that you referred to. But I had already wathced that episode once and did not notice it then. So at least in my case the flaw is not that bad and can go unnoticed. I have almost completed all the eps on Disc 2 (1 more to go) and have not seen any other problems.
BillyK 01-06-2005, 04:29 PM I guess the yellow lines are on all copies because I noticed them too.
I thought I saw them slightly in another episode - can't remember though which one.
