View Full Version : Goofs, Mistakes, Bloopers
Bluestone 08-16-2001, 02:35 PM The exterior shots of the house show the upstairs reversed. The higher part should be on the right side of the screen, not the left.
In the first episode, the minister calls Mr. Brady 'Michael Paul', but we later find out his middle name is something else.
In the episode where the kids are building a house of cards, Jan's hair is loose when shot from the side, but pulled back into a ponytail when shot from the front.
In the trampoline episode, Mrs. Brady twice calls two of the kids by their real names.
In the episode where Mrs. Brady is in the car crash and taken to court, Cindy and Bobby apparently fight because Bobby spilled ice cream on Cindy. Cindy says: "He spilled ice cream on my dress!" But at the beginning of the episode when they get out of the car, she didn't have any ice cream on her and she wasn't wearing a dress.
In the episode Greg where wants his own room, before the parents decide on the den, his mother suggests the attic. His father laughs and says: "Fine, if Greg were two-and-a-half feet tall!", indicating it's a low attic. In a later episode Greg DOES move into the attic and has plenty of room.
When Peter's voice is cracking, Mrs. Brady asks Alice when Greg's voice started to change, clearly meaning she wasn't around at the time. Alice says around thirteen, but when Greg was fourteen AND the family was all together, his voice still hadn't changed.
phlflip@aol.com 08-16-2001, 09:25 PM You are so right about jans hair when they are building the house of cards when her hair is loose from the side view and in a ponytail from the front view.I saw the episode last night and was going to post it until i saw you had already posted it.I also noticed that when i saw the episode in the past so great minds think alike. Phlflip.
TVLanFan 08-21-2001, 10:19 PM Just a few comments on some of the goofs ...thought you might find these tidbits interesting...
Yes, in the pilot, Mike's middle name was "Paul". But later, when
he runs for city council or something (after the Brady Bunch, I think it was during "The Bradys") his name is announced as Michael "Thomas" Brady.
And, apparently, Sherwood Schwarz's office received dozens of letters pointing out the goof.
In the house of cards episode, a couple of cameras were used to film the scenes from different angles. In addition to Jan's hair, Marcia can be seen holding her bracelet (in an attempt to keep it from knocking
down the cards) in one camera angle, and when the camera angles switch, the bracelet is dangling and the hand that was holding it is now down at her side.
In the trampouline episode, in addition to Carol calling Peter "Chris", Barry Williams can be heard saying to Jan,"Why don't you give it a try, Eve?". But you have to listen carefully, as there is a lot of chatter going on at the time... You can hear him say "Eve" pretty clearly, so just rewind the tape from that point and listen for it.
In the Joe Namath episode, when Bobby is telling his friends (in the beginning of the show) about knowing Namath, Cindy is walking by carrying a pail toward the garage...it's a big bulky pail, you can't miss it...but when the camera switches to another angle, she's no longer holding the pail. Saw this on "Pop Up Brady".
I love finding out about goofs like that...I think it's funny when you know what to look for.

kfoard 08-29-2001, 05:37 PM In the pilot eposide when the boys are sitting down eating breakfast. When the camera is first on Greg his hair is parted on the left side and he's eating his cerel with his left hand. The next time the camera's on Greg his hair is parted on the right side and he's eating with his right hand. I don't really thing this was a blooper just an air with the camera.

TVLanFan 08-29-2001, 11:35 PM Interesting point, Kathleen...I hadn't heard about or noticed that one yet. Have to try to catch it next time. But you could be right, could have been that the negative was reversed or something when they developed the film. You folks out there never cease to amaze me with the goofs y'all spot. I've never caught anything like that on my own.
dallas_16 09-03-2001, 01:49 AM I dunno if ur all aware but they do have such a thing as POP UP BRADY where they point out all the bloopers and mistakes like POP UP VIDEO every thing from Jans hair to Mike's middle name and the way there was actually no second floor
so maybe u all don't really see the bloopers u watch this POP UP BRADY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
blackbiped 09-03-2001, 11:02 AM You caught us. Oh, the shame.

"If squirrels performed delicate brain surgery, they would have a poor success rate."
TV Guy 09-04-2001, 11:51 AM In the episode where Bobby is on the "Kartoon King" show to compete in the ice cream-eating contest, Carol and Mike take him to the studio in the station wagon, but return home in the convertible (or the other way around).
mijada 09-06-2001, 07:09 PM In the Tattletale episode Cindy comes down the stairs in her pajamas and asks if anyone is going to kiss her goodnight. Her dad then has a talk with her about not tatteling anymore. In the next scene Cindy is wearing street clothes when she enters her bedroom and Marcia and Jan ask what happened downstairs.
blackbiped 09-07-2001, 01:54 AM One of my favorites is the episode where Cindy and her boyfriend are standing in the kitchen talking to Alice. Susan Olsen thought they were just rehearsing the scene so when she walks off-camera she makes a stupid face.
ficlopri 09-09-2001, 12:34 AM Remember in the ep when they (the Brady kids) sing on tv as The Silver Platters. When they are singing for try outs I think they all bow their heads but you still they still hear their voices singing. They were lip-synching to their own voices and it's obvious. I caught that one all by myself.
Frank 09-14-2001, 04:48 PM how is that a mistake? they had microphones...
but the thing that makes you know that they're lip syncing is that the song fades out! lol!
bbfan 09-17-2001, 06:16 PM Also in the ice cream-eating contest episode, Bobby is alone in the family room watching the Kartoon King show. As he learns about the contest, the Kartoon King asks the viewers if they like chocolate ice cream. Bobby says "Bleech" out loud as if he hates that particular flavor. However, the flavor he is shown eating during the contest is none other than chocolate.
Tweety 09-29-2007, 09:59 AM In the Tattletale episode Cindy comes down the stairs in her pajamas and asks if anyone is going to kiss her goodnight. Her dad then has a talk with her about not tatteling anymore. In the next scene Cindy is wearing street clothes when she enters her bedroom and Marcia and Jan ask what happened downstairs.
I realize that this post was made back in 2001, but hey, since this thread is back, here are pics of Cindy downstairs talking to Mike and Carol, and then a few moments later when she enters the girls' bedroom:
ComedyGuy 11-01-2007, 06:56 PM In the episode where Bobby is on the "Kartoon King" show to compete in the ice cream-eating contest,
FYI the "Cartoon King" is none other than "Otis Cambell" the town drunk on TAGS
Has anyone noticed the sliding glass door leading to the family room where the TV is has no glass in it what so ever ??
Sam the butcher tries to close that door and he almost grabs the wrong side of the door where the glass is supposed to be.
Tweety 11-01-2007, 07:04 PM ...Sam the butcher tries to close that door and he almost grabs the wrong side of the door where the glass is supposed to be.
Yeah, that door was funny sometimes...
In the "Cyrano de Brady episode from Season 4, there was one instance at the beginning of the ep when Jan and Kerry walk from the patio into the kitchen (where Jan introduces Kerry to Alice)... the kitchen drapes on the slider are rustled when Jan and Kerry enter the kitchen from the patio, and the drapes actually swing "through" the "glass door".
sixfingers 02-25-2008, 02:18 AM I realize that this post was made back in 2001, but hey, since this thread is back, here are pics of Cindy downstairs talking to Mike and Carol, and then a few moments later when she enters the girls' bedroom:
When I watch that episode I get the impression that the scene where Cindy is shown walking into the bedroom was supposed to be the next day but was sloppily done so that it looks like a few minutes later. Note that Cindy was wearing that same exact outfit outside in daylight right after that. The problem is that Marcia is still wearing the same outfit she had on in her last scene so maybe Susan Olsen changed clothes for the next scene too early. Something wasn't done right, but it isn't clear what.
gregrob 02-25-2008, 05:48 PM Mike wouldn't allow the kids to trespass in his den in "Father of the Year" but they were allowed in every other episode. In "Click" I couldn't understand why Carol was so against Greg playing football when Peter played football in the earlier "Drummer Boy."
Tweety 02-25-2008, 08:25 PM Mike wouldn't allow the kids to trespass in his den in "Father of the Year" but they were allowed in every other episode. In "Click" I couldn't understand why Carol was so against Greg playing football when Peter played football in the earlier "Drummer Boy."
I think that PERHAPS the reason Carol was against Greg playing and not Peter was because Peter was playing at a level where most kids were pretty much the same size, and Carol didn't see it as a dangerous or physical game.
I'm sure she thought of High School football as totally different than the Junior High or Pop Warner level ball that Peter was playing. Even though Greg was bigger than Peter, Carol probably figured high school players are a LOT bigger than what Peter was playing against and was afraid some big galoot would pound Greg into the ground.
Of course, it could be that the writers just weren't consistent with Carol's character!
Tell ya what was funny about Carol's character though... when Greg started talking about getting a car, and Carol said something to the effect of "I was worried enough when you got a bicycle", talking as if she raised Greg herself and was worried about him when he got his first bike... Greg of course, had long since started writing bicycles by the time Mike and Carol married!
Jack1000 07-12-2011, 07:38 AM A hard to spot blooper,
In "Power of The Press" (a.k.a Peter's bad science exam grade) watch the scene where Peter, Bobby and Cindy are all in the Boy's bedroom and Peter tells them about how the kids at school give him candy bars for saying nice things about them in the paper.
Between Peter saying this and giving Cindy and Bobby some candy bars, Bobby's shirt changes colors in the scene! (He is wearing a different shirt in the same scene!)

Actually a single 35mm camera was used, which is why these and other continuity errors often occurred. They had huge lenses, with no revolving turret, so they had to change the lens to go from a distant shot to a close up. Because this was time consuming, they would do the distant shots from several scenes, and then do the closeups (or viceversa). This was standard for sitcoms of the era.
Since there could be several hours between the closeups and the distant shots, there was plenty of opportunity for continuity errors to occur.
In the trampouline episode, in addition to Carol calling Peter "Chris", Barry Williams can be heard saying to Jan,"Why don't you give it a try, Eve?". It sounds to me like she calls him "Greg", which is what the closed captions say. If you listen close, you'll hear Greg call Jan "Eve" twice "be careful Eve" and "Why don't you give it a try Eve?"
sixfingers 09-11-2011, 12:29 PM In the Joe Namath episode, when Bobby is telling his friends (in the beginning of the show) about knowing Namath, Cindy is walking by carrying a pail toward the garage...it's a big bulky pail, you can't miss it...but when the camera switches to another angle, she's no longer holding the pail. Saw this on "Pop Up Brady".
If you look at this frame by frame, you'll see that she starts to bend over and put the pail down. This was cut short, possibly because of a wardrobe issue.
jehobden 09-29-2011, 07:12 PM FYI the "Cartoon King" is none other than "Otis Campbell" the town drunk on TAGS.
Hal Smith had also played Santa Claus the previous season in "The Voice of Christmas".
Jack1000 01-24-2013, 01:32 AM Great Blooper!
Here's a You Tube clip of "The Show Must Go On?" episode with Carol and Marcia doing their classic rendition of "Together, Wherever We Go:"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_8fzsp8lQc&list=PLAFEBFF7FE1CCAA28
Watch when the curtain opens at about :19 seconds into the video! The candles used in Mike and Greg's "The Day is Done" poetry reading are there! However, in the next wide shot, they are gone!

Mark Mallard 03-26-2013, 06:03 PM Great thread idea!!!
One I have noticed is in "Confessions, Confessions" of Season 2- when Alice comes into the dining room to see the vase leaking all over the dinner table, the camera does a rather steep upward-angled shot, and you can clearly see the top of the studio set, lights and all!
Another is in "The Personality Kid" of Season 3- when Peter is talking on the phone to a friend from school about going to her party she's throwing, he picks up the phone wearing a blue shirt, but when he puts the phone back down on the receiver, his arm is shown wearing a red shirt! To make matters stranger, from the side view of "Peter's" head, it doesn't even look like Peter! Might have been a Schwartz, hahahahaha.
Another is in "Jan, The Only Child" of Season 4- when the other 5 kids, excluding Jan (obviously) are practicing the sack-race in the backyard, Bobby yells out to Marcia to hurry up so she can beat whoever she is racing against (since Bobby and Marcia were partners for that round), but instead of saying "Marcia!", he says, "Maureen!" A slip up on Mike Lookinland's part, using her real name, haha!

Mr. Drucker 03-28-2013, 09:39 AM I saw a YouTUbe post called "Does Mike Brady Swear?"In the clip,Mike and Carol stand atop the Brady's long reaching stair bannister and wonder who's making alot of noise downstairs. The claim is that Robert Reed says "What the HELL is going on down there but is dubbed over with a "heck" or something like that.Of course,"hell" was just being allowed on the air around that time, but it would naturally have been just a little too angrily verbose for this beloved family favorite.

Not to be nit-picky, but the actual line is "Alice, it's six o'clock in the morning!" and the question over his possible swearing is whether or not he said the "f" word. During the line, he pauses akwardly and you can see his mouth move a slight bit during the pause. It's like, "Alice, it's six o'clock in the _____ morning!"
whitelighter 11-07-2013, 06:18 PM The exterior shots of the house show the upstairs reversed. The higher part should be on the right side of the screen, not the left.
This always bothered me too. I think split-levels with higher sides the left are more common, but I'm sure they could've found one with the higher side to the right.
They also should've designed the set so that the floor-plan made more sense.
Dude111 11-08-2013, 08:36 PM In the trampoline episode, Mrs. Brady twice calls two of the kids by their real namesHehe I think I have seen EVERY EPISODE and I dont remember that in that one!
Quite an interesting list there!

WalterTheDrinker 01-09-2014, 02:55 PM In "The Personality Kid," during the party when Peter is growing his "harem," the girls are trying to convince Peter that he's not dull, and there's a close-up of Peter that's a reverse image. His hair is combed to the other side, and the background is flipped.
Just saw this thread now. I'm trying to think of others ice cold here at my desk at work... :)
Jack1000 01-19-2014, 06:27 PM In "54-40 And Fight" (Trading Stamp Episode)
In the classic house of cards contest, watch shortly after Tiger comes in and knocks into Greg who in turn knocks the cards down. After the kids argue, watch closely at the fade to the next scene.
Mike goes over to the table where two cards are left standing. According to sources they were rigged with wires. He pushes the two standing cards down with his hand, but they pop back up again!

Jack1000 07-30-2014, 02:54 PM In "Greg Gets Grounded"
Watch the scene with Mike in the bedroom doing knee-bend exercises. He says, "46, 47, 48, 49, 50." But he doesn't actually DO 50. He gets up very slightly between "49" and "50." and says "50." while only doing 49 exercises
Carol says, "Keep it up honey, 50 of those a day is supposed to keep you very healthy." After Mike reaches "49" and says "50." he says, "Oh, staying healthy's gonna kill me!"

Dude111 07-31-2014, 12:05 AM I think he got too tired to actually do the 50th one!!

Me, too. . . that slip-up was controversial indeed. It just raises that unsettling effect, mistaking Peter for Greg. In fact, this happens a lot with the Brady girls; Jan is often mistaken for Marcia.
