View Full Version : Another young man has his say
If you go to this link (http://www.sharedvoice.org/unamerican/) and click on "launch movie," you'll be treated to a wonderful flash movie featuring the song "(Didn't Know I Was) Unamerican by an artist by the name of Ian Rhett. It's very well-done.
And if you like the song enough and want to download or stream it in a stand-alone MP3 (192 kbps/6.7 Mb), click here (http://home.comcast.net/~ohnothimagen/01_unamerican.mp3).
(Didn't Know I Was) Unamerican
(Ian Rhett)
v .I.
Didn't know I was unamerican
For Choosing to give a damn
Or Unpatriotic
For daring to take a stand
For What I believe in
Looks Like Freedom to me
Expressions of Liberty
Wanting Our America to be
A responsible Hegemony
v .II.
Didn't know I was a communist
For wanting to share the wealth
It doesn't take an economist
To measure the cost of health
And What I believe in
Looks Like Heaven to me
One human Family
Where everybody's got enough to eat
And something warm to cover their feet
v .III.
Didn't know I'd be labeled a terrorist
For daring to speak my mind
It's becoming more precarious
For failing to toe the line
And What I believe in
Sounds Like Freedom to me
Like the sons of liberty
In 1773
Dumping 45 tonnes of tea
v .IV.
Didn't know I was in the minority
Of people who love the earth
I hope it becomes a priority
Before it gets any worse
And What I believe in
Looks like heaven to me
Where angels take the shape of the trees
Giving us clean air to breathe
From the rivers to the mountains and seas...
v .V.
Didn't know I hated the country
For acknowledging the truth
This war is despicable profiteering
At the expense of our youth
And What I believe in
Looks like Heaven to me
With all of humanity
Living as community
In relative harmony
Denoument
I know it's just a song
But if the whole world sang along
How much longer would it
Be
This
Way
?
Brian Damage 11-01-2004, 11:37 AM Sounds like an anti Bush song to me. You sure try to do things subtle don't ya AKA.

it's not anti-Bush. It's the words of a pissed off American who is being tired of hardcore conservatives flinging out crap they are unpatriotic and unamerican because they aren't big fans of the president and/or don't support the war.
As long as you guys are going to go on and on about how people like Springsteen, Dixie Chicks, Sean Penn and the sort are unpatriotic for saying what they believe... don't get mad if someone writes an angry song making the point stated in the song.

It's more an anti-******* song. If you equate Bush with *******s, well...you have a point.

So it is anti conservative. Thanks that's all I wanted to know.

Really! Isn't there supposed to be some kind of rule against this sort of thing here?! Or is it ok as long as you mask it as a legitimate thread in a specific board?
Let's see how long we can do that until we get banned.
How many warnings have you received, AKA?

Please don't shower me with your personal political beliefs.

 I don't see how I am. That's a weird statment.
Especially when it seems like you want to shower us here. Of the tens of thousands of posts you've made on the various boards, I see that you've only made 55 on the music board. One would get the impression that you're stalking AKA just because he sees things different politically than you do. Or is it just a sudden interest in music? But I'm showering you?? Okay, if you say so.

I'm not stalking anybody. What difference does it make if I post once or ten thousand times. I was referring to the comment you made in reference to Bush.

This is what I was referring to. What's with the stars? It was obviously a colorful remark that was filtered out. And you used that colorful remark to say if I was to equate that with Bush, I would have a point.

Which was partially censored anyway, so technically you don't even know what the comment was. So how was I "showering you with my political beliefs"? I don't mind you accusing me of doing something if I actually did it, but I don't understand your comment at all.

If it was censored, it was something off color, and if it was used for Bush or Kerry, it is imposing your personal feelings about a certain candidate. That is My point.

Not true. For all you know, it could have been a joke. And if you equate what you perceive as my personal feelings about a candidate with showering my political beliefs on you, that's your fault not mine.

Please don't shower me with your personal political beliefs. What I find funny, Brian, is that you posted this in Kitt's Bruce Springsteen thread:

...which essentially got the whole thing closed. And I get it - you were whining that we were talking about a Kerry event. Yeah, political thread; yada, yada, yada.
Yet, over on the Cheers board, which you moderate, you were "showering" everyone who contributed to that thread with your political beliefs (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?s=&threadid=121742&perpage=15&pagenumber=31).

the main reason I hope Kerry wins is so the tide can turn and all the liberals will turn the tables and go "whose the unpatriotic traitor now?!?!"
It is sick that the Dixie Chicks were banished for being anti-Bush, but then a pro-Bush country singer like Toby Keith can write a song telling Hispanics to "Stay In Mexico", but it's okay because he's pro-Bush and radio won't get upset over that.

I tried doing a search through Toby Keith lyrics but couldn't find anything. What exactly did he say about Hispanics (Latinos) staying in Mexico?

it's his current single on the chart. I don't listen to him (wayyyy too white trash) but knowing the songs I have heard from him, I'm willing to bet he's in an anti-Hispanic rant in it. Because he did get in trouble a few years ago for saying something against Latinos coming into America and not speaking English.
It's sick that people will defend Toby's opinions saying that he has the right to speak his mind, but the same people will trash Dixie Chicks over ONE comment.
Brian 11-01-2004, 07:02 PM I am going to discuss this thread with TJ and see what he thinks. Until then, this thread is locked.
