In terms of history, the 1973-74 period would have had Agnew's resignation, the battle of the sexes, the Saturday Night Massacre and other Watergate stuff, Nixon's resignation, and the popularity of ALL IN THE FAMILY in television and early disco and Allman Brothers for music.

What would the Arnolds have faced in Kevin's senior year?

Actually, you saw that in Episode #112, "The Little Women," where Kevin got his SAT scores (only to find out Winnie outdid him 1482-1240) and Norma got a job with computer softward making slightly more than Jack was at Norcom--oops, the furniture factory. However, the men were superior to the women when it came to bowling.
