View Full Version : Carl Reiner Munsters#1 10-30-2004, 01:32 PM How come in early eps Carl wasn't shown, then later we started to see him? SawgrassSteve 10-30-2004, 04:51 PM Munster #1, In the beginning, Carl was reluctant to even play Allen at all, because Allen was a "big-time TV star," and he himself was not. He agreed to do so under the proviso that he'd not show his face. He thought it would ruin the pretense. After seeing the success of the show and the character, and having already become the "voice" of Allen Brady, he agreed to allow his face to be shown. Basically, he was just being modest. ;) Steve Munsters#1 10-30-2004, 09:10 PM Thank You Steve! You've been very kind. :D jehobden 11-26-2004, 02:17 AM Speaking of Carl Reiner, he has been showing up on GSN's B&W reruns of The Name's the Same the last few nights. The show is run weeknights at 3AM ET. He was about 30 years old at the time and appearing on Your Show of Shows. He has a full head of hair on the show, but I'm not sure if it was still his own or if he was already wearing a toupée by then. It's fun seeing him as himself from more than 50 years ago. Nora 12-02-2004, 12:20 PM I wish Your Show of Shows was more accessible...I've only ever seen snippets of it, but what I've seen is hilarious. jillm816 12-02-2004, 12:58 PM I've seen some used videos on VHS, but that's about all. I would love to see that show too; I've actually never seen it but I bet it is hysterical. My husband and I recently discovered the Jack Benny show - we wanted to see what Mel Blanc looked like - and by the end of the show we were were laughing so hard we had tears. Those variety shows are way better than anything we can find on TV... Hopefully as time goes by we can see more classic shows restored an put on DVD. That way they won't be lost. |
