I want to say yes, but I don't know. I wanted them to be in the same scenes together other than the Night of the Ropers episode where they ended up fighting. I wanted them to be cool with one another. Can anybody picture this?

It would be cool to see them on the show together.. but I'm not sure if they would get along.. they were very different :p

The producers actually almost had to accommodate such a situation. When Norman Fell agreed to the spinoff The Ropers, he had to be promised that he would be allowed back to Three's Company if the spinoff did not last a year. The Ropers did indeed flop after one season, but since the show lasted one year and three months, the promise was no longer valid and the producers did not have to let Norman Fell back on to the show.
If The Ropers did indeed flop after less than one year, it would indeed have been interesting to see how the producers could have accommodate Norman Fell. Perhaps the Ropers would move back to the building as tenants after deciding the neigbors at their home were too troubling. And with Mrs. Roper constantly complaining about Mr. Roper not being romantic, it's very possible that she could have seeked some solace from Mr. Furley.
As a side issue, love triangles always confuse me as I don't understand how a person wouldn't seek someone else. I wonder how Mr. Furley would have reacted if Mrs. Roper expressed interest in him. After all, Furley never succeeded in romance either, so he may have "settled" for someone like Mrs. Roper. Also, Lana was never successful with Jack. Did she for the slightest moment consider ladies man Larry?

As far as I'm concerned the Ropers leaving the show was the begining of the end. Helen was my favorite character. I loved her little cracks about the Roper's sex life (or lack there of). The when Chrissy left the show only two member of the main cast were left and it just was not the same. I guess I would say seasons 1-3 are the best because you get all five- Jack, Chrissy, Janet, and the Ropers. But we will see what I think when I see all of season four in order once that dvd set comes out. When I think about it- would it have been possible for the five original cast members to go on for nearly a decade on tv? You would think they would run out of ideas- the changing room mates and landlords really gave them new storyline options, so, who knows?
To answer your question I don't think it would have worked to have Mr. Furley and Mr. Roper together. One old guy is enough. And he is not funny without Helen there anyway. And if Helen and Stanley came back then there would be too many older people on the show- you know?
