View Full Version : When Tony Dow was young Tundra Wolf 10-29-2004, 11:22 PM I thought he was a bad actor in the early early episodes. I Love Carol Burnett! 10-29-2004, 11:25 PM I guess he was nervous and nieve or something  Tonyd 10-29-2004, 11:38 PM I don't think he was ever as good an actor as Jerry Mathers, but I don't think he was poor in the early episodes any more than the later ones! HaskellGirl 10-29-2004, 11:52 PM I think he got better over time, but I think it was new to him in the earliest episodes. Jerry definately had more acting experience than Tony when they started and a more natural quality about him. Tony was an athlete that sorta got pulled into the business, but I think he got the swing of things pretty quickly. As far as acting goes, Jerry and Ken Osmond seem to be the standouts from the show, but I think Tony overall did a great job as Wally. Tonyd 10-30-2004, 12:16 AM I think they did spend more time on Wally in the later episodes too. The only main character who I don't think had much acting ability was Lumpy. I imagine you like Eddie, HaskellGirl! :D HaskellGirl 10-30-2004, 09:22 AM I do like Eddie!!!! How'd you guess??;) :D Tonyd 10-30-2004, 10:35 AM Originally posted by HaskellGirl I do like Eddie!!!! How'd you guess??;) :D Just a wild guess! HaskellGirl 10-30-2004, 10:46 AM Good guess TonyD!:D One thing that I love about Tony Dow as Wally is his look...now I don't mean his physical looks (although they don't get much better than that, do they? He's beautiful!:D ), but I mean in scenes when they cut to him and he's just looking...I don't know why, but there's something that makes his "looks" better than most...because it seems like he's really listening and taking things in. I hope that made some sorta sense.:D Tonyd 10-30-2004, 10:49 AM I also think he had a great laugh and sense of humor! HaskellGirl 10-30-2004, 07:46 PM Originally posted by Tonyd I also think he had a great laugh and sense of humor! Are you talking about Wally or Tony, or both? I love Wally's sense of humor...didn't June once say that he had Ward's sense of humor? Tonyd 10-30-2004, 07:53 PM I mean Wally because even though we have the same initials I don't know Tony! :D Yes June did say that, and I think Ward had a great sense of humor too. Beaver was much more serious most of the time I think! HaskellGirl 10-30-2004, 08:22 PM You're right, Beaver WAS more serious than Wally most of the time, wasn't he? He does make jokes sometimes, but not to the extent that Wally does. Tonyd 10-30-2004, 08:29 PM Beaver hardly ever laughs and sometimes even seems kind of sad a lot of the time to me! HaskellGirl 10-30-2004, 09:17 PM . HaskellGirl 10-30-2004, 09:20 PM Beaver seems to be the more sensitive and serious one, that's for sure! Wally's more easy-going and relaxed. Speaking of which, I've begun to transcribe an episode of TNLITB that Tony Dow directed and wrote, and he actually picked up on this fact in the way Wally and Beaver react to Beaver's eldest son learning to drive. Of course, Beaver is the father, but Tony really captured their personalities, because Beaver was very serious about the whole thing while Wally was ready to go! Even when they got in the convertible, Wally jumped right over the side into the backseat (and landed on something that hurt  ) while Beaver carefully opened the front door and buckled up. :D Tonyd 10-30-2004, 09:27 PM That is interesting HaskellGirl! I have never watched the NLITB but it sounds interesting. When you say you are transcribing it, do you mean you are writing it out like in a script form? Also I didn't know Tony Dow directed and wrote NLITB either. :) HaskellGirl 10-30-2004, 09:35 PM Originally posted by Tonyd That is interesting HaskellGirl! Also I didn't know Tony Dow directed and wrote NLITB either. :) Yup!! And I'll post it online somewhere, maybe here or on a website or something. Its taking a really long time though. Maybe I'll do one scene at a time. And yes, Tony did write and direct a few eps of NLITB...when he wrote, he had a co-writer though, but still did an excellent job. And now he's a director and producer I think, so that may be where he started. Jerry Mathers also directed (I'm not sure if he wrote too) a couple of eps of the series. I think its really nice continuation, since Hugh Beaumont directed some eps of LITB. I thought of another example from NLITB about what we were talking about. Wally and Beaver were walking down the street and Wally makes a joke (Beaver mentions something about getting a divorce and losing his house and having to move back home and what if the same thing had happened to Wally, and Wally says "Beav, I'm a lawyer...I wouldn't have lost the house") and takes off running carefree across the street. And Beaver chases after him, but instead of running right after him, he looks both ways, THEN crosses the street, and THEN chases after Wally. And Wally is looking back at the Beaver and laughing. :D Tonyd 10-30-2004, 09:43 PM That's interesting and I'm sure the people here would enjoy seeing it! :D I did know that Hugh Beaumont directed some eps of the show, so like you say it was a nice continuation to have Tony do the new one. It is also pretty cool that they kept Beaver and Wally's personalities so much the same! ~*KristenCleaver*~ 10-30-2004, 10:32 PM One thing that I love about Tony Dow as Wally is his look...now I don't mean his physical looks (although they don't get much better than that, do they? He's beautiful! ), I just had to comment on this one! You all know I was formerly MrsTonyDow91, (and still am at heart), and I have to agree with you 100% HaskellGirl! :D BTW, Eddie was pretty cute too! (No offense though, but Wally was cuter!) That's not offensive! I agree, Wally was the cutest one on the show! Eddie's very cute too, though in a different way. He's got the BEST smile!:D ~*KristenCleaver*~ 10-31-2004, 09:29 PM I agree Eddie had a good smile, the one thing I noticed about Tony Dow isn't that he didn't have very good teeth, but that didn't take away from his looks much! HaskellGirl 10-31-2004, 10:50 PM Beaver is another one that has a wonderful smile! Too bad he's so serious all the time! His smile is really adorable, its very wide, and it lights up his entire face.:D ~*KristenCleaver*~ 10-31-2004, 11:00 PM You know now you have me thinking about his voice, and I was listening to it tonight. It's not only softer but deeper, and kind of attractive! He was a pretty attractive preteen, and then when he got past his awkward stage he got good looking when he was around 18. HaskellGirl 11-01-2004, 05:27 PM Kristen, I completely agree with you! His voice is so nice in these eps...the first time I noticed it was in the episode where he messes up Wally's jacket and is painting it back and Eddie comes up and asks him what he's doing (not sure if this episode aired yet or not this time around) and ever since then I've noticed his voice being nice to listen to...and when he becomes an adult, his voice is really quite melodious. And I think he's quite attractive too. :D ~*KristenCleaver*~ 11-01-2004, 06:35 PM I like your taste! ;) You know the one thing that I always loved about Wally and Beaver's looks? They have such deep dimples, and when they smiled it looked so cute! (I love dimples.) Hehe! I've always liked those Irish boys from when I was little. :D Michael [hXc] 11-01-2004, 06:39 PM Originally posted by ~*KristenCleaver*~ I like your taste! ;) You know the one thing that I always loved about Wally and Beaver's looks? Thanks Kris! Kitt 11-02-2004, 12:51 AM Tony and Jerry were both a little bit fumbly from time to time with their acting, but they were Beaver and Wally, just as surely as my best kid-friends in real life were who they were. I have no complaints about Tony Dows' acting, or Jerry Mathers' acting. Michael [hXc] 11-02-2004, 08:25 AM Originally posted by ~*KristenCleaver*~ LOL yes I know you are AJ, and you helped me prove my point. ;) I am not Irish at all either Michael. i'm half italian and half portuguese but i don't look like it HaskellGirl 11-02-2004, 03:29 PM Originally posted by ~*KristenCleaver*~ I like your taste! ;) You know the one thing that I always loved about Wally and Beaver's looks? Well, maybe Beaver's a bit, right around his mouth? They don't have dimples in their cheek cheeks, do they? I need to take another look!!! I'm watching my tape right now, but that Beaver is hardly smiling!!! I never realized how serious he really was until TonyD brought it up! I do know that Eddie Haskell has dimples in both his cheeks, but they are unmatched. But they aren't that obvious because he's so thin!! Isn't weird how we notice all these things? :D Tonyd 11-02-2004, 04:37 PM It is interesting how we notice little things HaskellGirl! I am relatively new to the show, but noticed right away how funny it was that Beaver hardly ever laughed, seeing as he is a little kid and all! rockrgurl71110 11-15-2004, 06:15 PM tonyd who is your avitar?
