of Willona? Willona was too young to be considered Florida's best friend on the show. Wanda or Ms. Vincent seemed to be closer to Florida's age. Definely not Willona.

Also: Who thinks the guy who played James Father was a more believable husband for Florida since they seemed closer in age?

Wanda and Ms. Vicent would have been great friends for Florida. Richard Ward, who played James' father could have been Florida's husband. He was closer to her age anyway. Everytime I see him, I think of the movie, "The Jerk."

It's funny that the age difference between Esther Rolle and John Amos and Ja'net Dubois was never really noticeable to me, I guess because I watched this show when I was a child and early teen and because to me Florida looked like she could still be 40something and james could be 40something to. Watching it now after reading these boards the age differences are obvious. W

How old is/was Richard Ward? I suspect that in real life he wasn't old enough to be Jon Amos' father.

Richard Ward was 5 years older than Esther Rolle in real Life and 26 years older than John Amos. So yes Richard Ward was old enough to play John Amos Father but John Amos wasn't old enough to play Esther Rolle's Husband-LOL

I'm with jamesanthony on this one. Growing up, I never realized the huge age difference.

I agree with TVA. Either one would've been great. The fact that Willona was her best friend was unbelievable. An aunt maybe, but not a best friend.

And the funny thing was Florida was always threatnening to tell Willona's real age like she was so much younger than Willona.

I know, Florida had some nerve!
