I disagree because I feel that others characters were funny besides Fred. Rollo, Bubba, and Julio was funny. So it wasn't one dimensional to me. The Critic was giving his review of The spinoff Grady which had just made it's debut on NBC in December of 1975. So the Critic said that the show Grady was better than Sanford and Son because it wasn't one dimensional and that all the characters on the show was good. Maybe that's why Grady was cancelled 4 weeks after his praise of the Show apperaed in Tv Guide-lol

What do these critics know anyway? I don't see how this show was one-diminsional. You had Redd doing his job as the star, Demond playing straight man, a wonderful supporting cast, great storylines, and excellent writing. Obvious, the critic wasn't a fan of the show. I never saw the Grady show, but that would seem one-diminsional to me, since Whitman Mayo can't carry a show. Like you said, 4 weeks should tell you something.

Probably the same critic who dissed the theme song to the Jeffersons.
