At the grocery store, which do you prefer? They don't even ask too much these days and just use plastic. I can't stand plastic. If I have a really large order, I ask for both. Pain in the neck me.

They give us paper for bread, donuts and stuff like that

I don't even think they have paper bags at my local Food Emporium. I'll have to look when I go food shopping after work.

Im one of those annoying customers who brings her own canvas bags and freezer bags. When those are filled up, paper in plastic.

As for baggers always giving you plastic, when I worked in Plaistow you automatically got plastic unless the customer specified they wanted paper. Up here though, we have to ask if plastic is ok. Took me a few months to get used to asking.

I use Plastic, but if i have cans and stuff i would ask for Paper b/c that holds it alot more

Plastic, if I have my daughter with me on the bike. Paper, if I don't. Because one paper sack fits perfectly into her little bike seat.:)

It usually depends on how much grocery shopping I do. Usually when there is a lot I get paper and plastic in-between but for little things, plastic mainly!

LOL, they don't even ask anymore. I prefer paper, but when they give me plastic I just don't say anything since it isn't really a big deal.

The grocery store I frequent has self-bagging counters...So 97% of the time, we bag w/ plastic...We have cats, so we always use the bags to scoop the litter into. Plus, we use the rest of the bags as our garbage can liners...Really helps....But we have way too many plastic bags now. :lol:

What you say about sackers not asking anymore is true. We never do paper unless the customer asks for it. Management tells us not to ask. Also we don't sack things that have a handle, like a gallon of milk. If you want your milk or laundry detergent sacked, then ask for it.

I heard somewhere that roaches lay eggs in Paper bags so I always get plastic.

Whats worse is double paper. My God thats a pain in my balls. And when people bring in their own canvas bags and totes. You cant stand them up and they dont have a shape so theyre hard to put stuff in. But whatever, I get the same thing.:lol:

At the other Shaws, we never asked.. but then they started enforcing it. Yah, that lasted all but 3 weeks. Up here though its a given to just ask since customers wont tell you up front. Sometimes I forget and then theyll be all.. Oh! I wanted paper! Meangya. Whereas before, they said upfront what they wanted.

Well, I don't really go grocery shopping but my parents do since I still live at home. When they DO ask we always take paper. We like to have a lot of extra paper bags around to put old newspapers in and my kitty loves to hide in them!

OMG...Cub Foods is the BEST grocery store ever because they let you bag it yourself. That way I get it the way I want it...cold stuff together (a MUST), non-food items NOT with food of any kind...I have issues with lazy sackers.

Anyway, paper, because it is much easier to recycle. We put our paper goods (envelopes, paper, kleenex boxes, etc) in paper bags. There's only one store in town that recycles plastic bags. And if you think I'm anal about bagging...I'm 100x worse about recycling.

I was just gonna say that. I also hate going and buying one thing...like a loaf of bread or a bag of chips...and they bag it.

I know what you mean. If it is bread, I'll usually put it in a small bag that fits perfectly. I usually don't sack it though unless the person asks for it.

Imagine a grocery store where they charge 5¢ a plastic bag so their customers are encouraged to bring their own.

All grocery stores already do that! When I worked at Kroger that was one of the first 'secrets of the trade' that came out

Not all grocery stores openly charge for plastic bags.

I was a bagger for a whole 2 weeks, but paper is a pain in the ass. And paper in plastic was even worse.
