I have wondered about this for ages, Why is The Brady Bunch so popular. I mean it's an outdated, sitcom about an all too!!nice family, with crappy 70's music and furniture. This is not a put down against The Brady Bunch, I personally watch it all the time, I'm trying to understand myself why I and so many others are drawn too it. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Don't put this wonderfully sweet sitcom down -- no one is twisting your arm to watch THE BRADY BUNCH. I have seen every episode of THE BRADY BUNCH so many times -- I can say them line by line.

I have also been a Bill Bixby fan for over 28 years now. I was born on June 13, 1972 (28 years ago).

I think the show is a way for kids today to see how the 70's was... clothes, slang, music, deco in furniture...

It shows family values at it best. During a time of free love, war and other controversies, brady bunch gave america a slice of pie...a nice way to see life even though its very unrealistic.... i love that show... it gave me hope for our kids to come!

I think THE BRADY BUNCH is an excellent sitcom.

You need to look at THE BRADY BUNCH a little bit closer. Maybe, you are a little bit too young to understand what THE BRADY BUNCH stands for. Besides the fact that everything retro is considered cool and fashionable right now, I think the Brady Bunch appeals to people because it is so simple, straight forward, and uncomplicated... so unlike the lives most of us lead in the year 2000. Chris Knight (Peter) had what I thought was a pretty good answer to the question about the shows continued popularity. I'm paraphrasing, but he said the because the show dealt with moral dilemnas, rather than social dilemnas, it can be shown over and over again to each generation and it's just as relevant now (to kids growing up) as it was 20 or 25 years ago. Every episode had a simple little moral to it (such as:

1) tell the truth;
2) respect each others privacy (Pete's tape recorder)
3) Keep your promises; or
4)don't play ball in the house :-) (I know, mom never did actually say that)

Sitcoms that dealt with the social dilemnas of the time, such as "All in the Family", lose a lot of their meaning when viewed today because we've developed as a society.

Knight then added, "I think I'm getting too deep, because the B Bunch isn't multi-level... It is what it is".

But I would add that with the Brady kids varying in age from about 4 or 5 (Cindy and Bobby during the first season) to 17 or 18 (Greg and Marcia during the last season), there is almost always a kid to identify with (or have a major crush on) while you're growing up.

There you have it. The Brady Bunch is pop culture at its best, giving people of All Tongues & Nations to see 70's Fashion, Music, that sort of thing. And Chris is right IT IS just like the wind. Amen.

I also think the show remains popular because the kids seem real. Contrast this show, where all the kids are relatively normal, to something like "Growing Pains", where all the kids are stereotypes (the smart one, the popular one, etc.).

It was great camp until the mistake filled Growing Up Brady book came along in 1992 and stunk up the Brady Bunch cult. Barry Williams foolishly thought that just because he could write his own name meant that, with a real author by his side (like Chris Kreski), he cold write a book too. Wrong Barry WRONG!!!!
