Do you realize that TDVDS could be considered the father of some of the greatest sitcoms in TV history? Here's my theory...

GENERATION 1: The Dick Van Dyke Show starred Mary Tyler Moore, who went to star in her own series The Mary Tyler Moore Show and founded MTM Productions. TMTMS won a record 28 Emmys.)

GENERATION 2:MTM Productions created Rhoda and Phyllis, spinoffs of The Mary Tyler Moore Show. They also had another classic Bob Newhart.

GENERATION 3: Taxi, often called the heir of MTM productions, was produced by Glen and Les Charles (formerly writers on Rhoda and Mary Tyler Moore) and James Burrows (director of some MTM shows' episodes).

GENERATION 4: Charles Burrows and Charles then went on to create Cheers. Glen and Les Charles wrote for the show, and James Burrows directed many episodes.

GENERATION 5: Cheers spun off into Fraiser. Fraiser beat TMTMS's Emmy record and also set the record for most Best Comedy Series Emmys (5).

So... in a way, TDVDS's legacy just ended last May with Fraiser's finale. Is TDVDS legacy over... or will it continue for a sixth generation? What do you guys think?

Very informative, Kurt.
Did you know that the star of "Frasier," Kelsey Graham, is also the Executive Producer of one of my favorite sitcoms, Girlfriends (http://www.upn.com/shows/girlfriends/), nominated for an Emmy last year, and destined to win one soon?

And so the legacy continues...
