Yep, it was a heart attack. He died in 1990. :( jehobden 01-20-2005, 07:34 PM I remember reading about his death in the Nashville airport during Memorial Day weekend 1990. He was said to have died in his sleep. I saw a few months ago on TV Land what may have been his last acting job. In an ep of MacGyver that aired early in 1990, he played a villainous character. He looked a bit heavier than he had when he appeared on Alice, and he was wearing glasses by then. TMC 09-01-2018, 06:24 AM According to the National Enquirer, Vic Tayback was finally done in (https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/local/1990/05/26/vic-tayback-who-played-mel-in-alice-tv-series-dies/3442beac-3a41-48a0-bc5b-5728cd3ee684/?utm_term=.fbc26d47352b) by his love of fried seafood. Fried scallops were his favorite. In his retirement he would eat platters of fried seafood practically every day. No one thought anything of it at the time as 1.) The actor had heart surgery in the past 2.) The actor always looked middle aged or older even when he was young. He starred in both movies and TV. By far, his most successful role was on a popular sitcom ("Alice" (https://tinyurl.com/y6suvo4)) where he played the boss of the title character. This was based on a movie ("Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" (https://tinyurl.com/yymguppp)) which he was also in. As a young struggling actor, he had earned money by working as muscle for some very shady people collecting debts etc. They took a liking to him and often invited him for drinks where he was privy to a lot of their conversations. A few years before his death he started talking to the FBI informally about some things he had seen and heard. They were close to getting him on record when he died. An autopsy did show some high levels of potentially dangerous substances which were likely administered without the actor’s knowledge.
