My husband and I moved last week from a condo that we own and plan to rent out for income.

The realtor just called and told me that he found a nice couple with a teenage daughter. They have a good credit and rental history.

The condo association allows pets, but it is still left up to our own discretion if we want to allow the tenants to have pets or not. We told the realtor that we would allow one pet...a cat or a dog. No large dogs....no rotweillers, pitbulls or dobermans. I don't care if they were raised by nuns. I've got a liability issue, and I don't want to frighten my former neighbors.

The interested couple has a rabbit and a bird. I guess it's a grey African parrot....a talking bird.

I don't know anything about rabbits or birds. I'm afraid the bird will be a squackbox.

I also recall a clause in my condo rules about only domesticated animals. I'm guessing birds and bunnies are domesticated?

I don't know. We're scheduled to meet them tomorrow to show the place.

Advice? :confused:

My advise is let them keep the parot and bird.

I would probably be more concerned about the rabbit. They like to chew furniture and mouldings and phone lines and electrical cords. My roommates girlfrind had a pet rabbit, and it loved to chew everything.

I wouldn't see any problem with a rabbit. It will most likely be in a cage a lot of the time anyway. A bird on the other hand is a different matter. Like you said it may be noisy and birds can also be messy too. But I guess it wouldn't be any messier or noisier than a dog.

All bunnies do is sit around and poop..so I wouldn't worry about that. Those birds can be annoying though. How close is that place to the neighbors?

Very close. There's a condo on each side and more across the hall. It's a 48-unit condo building.

That's all I need...a wall chomping Peter Cottontail. My husband knew someone whose rabbit chewed through a radio wire and got electrocuted.

Well..if the walls aren't sound-proof enough, and that bird is a squaker, I'd have to unfortunately say no to the bird.

Ok, at any rate, I dont know that birds are loud enough to really annoy the neighbors.




And Rottweilers are such sweet dogs...mine wouldnt hurt a fly..

My mom has 4 parrots, one is an African Grey, and it is the most quiet of all of them all. They don't squak, they just talk every now and then. I want all the other birds to die, the African can stay.

We have both a rabbit and a bird (as well as several other animals) at my parents house. The bird and bunny are almost always in a cage. The bird never shuts up, but he's not loud. The rabbit hops and poops and poops and hops. That's it. Really, I don't think you should worry about either of them. The animals can be messy, but you're not going to be the one cleaning up after them, so why worry? Let them keep their pets. If they're perfect otherwise, then don't be picky.

i'd be afraid. our birds say some not so nice things. like today it told me to "shut the f up" as I walked by it's cage. I wonder who taught it that.

The neighbors might not notice the pooping and hopping rabbit but they will notice the non-stop yapping bird. I don't think that problem will be overlooked or adjusted to by the neighbors.

I think that you should let them, neighbours won't hear the parrot and rabbits are fine as long as they aren't kept in the house, otherwise they can get a bit messy

All my cousin's rabbit did was sit in his cage and like someone else said, poop. It was quite boring, if you ask me.

Can't help you about the birds. I've never been a bird fan- I'm rather scared of them.

Hey Janice, if that family doesn't work out, I'll rent your condo. I've always wanted to live in Boston! ;)

Are they going to bring the hopping, poopng, chewing bunny and the screaching foul mouthed beaker to the meeting?

All rabbits do is poop, poop, and poop. We had several for a few months back in 2002. Never again. You can't even pet 95% of them because they are too wild. :rolleyes:

We have a bird (Cockatiel), and it can get pretty loud. Parrots are usually quiet, but if that one isn't, and if you have thin walls, I don't know whether the neigbors would be able to hear, or if they would be bothered (noticing) or not.

I guess the only way to tell would be for your husband to make some sort of a loud noise, and see if you can hear it in another room. with the doors closed. It sounds silly, but it may answer your question.

Let them bring the pets in on a trial basis of a two weeks. if the the trial basis goes well let them keep them.
