View Full Version : What kind of a driver are you?

I'm a good driver. I've been driving for longer than I care to admit, and haven't had an accident. I used to be a speed demon when I was younger, but now I drive cautiously.

My husband drives like a maniac. I'm always using my imaginary brake when I'm in the car with him. I have to tell him to use his directionals. We've had some classic car arguments.

I am an excellent driver, since I do a lot of driving that is required for the type of work that I do..and driving around the Los Angeles is not for the timid types:lol:

I am an awesome driver. I can drive a stick-shift in traffic while talking on the cell-phone and adjusting the volume at the same time like a pro. I make Jeff Gordon look like he's on a tricycle.

Zero crashes, zero traffic violations.

Me the person and me the driver are 2 totally different people. Im so nice and slow and patient, but it all changes when I get behind the wheel.

I dunno what it is, but I get really agressive and impatient when Im driving. Im not some speed demon, but if I get someone whos going the exact speed limit, I get so impatient. Though I do admit when it comes to the highway, I do go way too fast and I stay in the passing lane. I hate when 2 lanes merge into one.. I GET SO COMPETITIVE.. some guy like, raced me the other day to beat me in the merge and finally I gave up because I didnt want to get into trouble:o. I cant help it. When I worked in Plaistow, going back home on 125.. at the set of lights you had to merge. There were days I kid you not where Id be at work and get so overwhelmed about having to deal with it later on Id go the back way. Im not a competitive or agressive person, but when it comes to driving I turn into some.. devil child . Coincidentally, that set of lights is where I got pulled over 2 years ago for speeding.

However, when it comes to directionals and such, Im really good.:D And my eyes are always darting back and forth on the road looking out for my buddies <3.

Oh, and Ive never been in any kind of accident. Amanda is all.. 'youre such a bad driver!' because I drive fast and stuff, yet shes been in 4 yes FOUR accidents in the 2.5 years shes had a license. Minor, but accidents nonetheless. Frankly, I dont need driving lessons from someone who cant even teach themselves. Just because I got one speeding ticket, does not make me the worst driver. </rant>

I think I'm pretty good. I started earlier than most kids probably because my dad and I love cars. :D

Anyway, I still speed even though I got caught 1 week after I got my license. None since though.

But I look at a lot of the teenagers and women in minivans and men in big trucks and I see how much better of a driver I am...I don't go 20 over, I don't dart in and out of traffic just to get 2 feet ahead, I don't have my stereo so loud I can't hear anything, I use my mirrors and turn signals...I get so upset with drivers who do things that are just...STUPID. Sure, I've done things I know are dumb (like the time I took a dip too fast and bottomed out), but some people...

i drove once. it was fun. i didn't really do anything except turn and mess with the pedals and speed. my brother is worse. he was driving after he got his permit and he turned to my dad to talk to him instead of watching what he was doing and he was heading right for a fence on a curb until my dad yelled at him to stop. it was funny. and he almost got the outside mirror knocked off by driving too close to the fence.

Not a single ticket or accident since I started driving four years ago. And I'm the same exact way as Crystal. I'm a speed demon on the interstate; I never drop less than 15 above the speed limit unless I'm going over some 11000 ft pass, then I have to go the limit so I don't drive over the side and plummet some 3000 ft to my death. :o And people who stay the limit annoy me as well. I have to pass them because I get too damn irritated. I try to make my 300 mile trip as short as possible, so I don't have time to be stuck behind everyone. Trucks, trailers, and RV's also suck.

And tractors for those of us who live in rural states...OMG tractors annoy me to no end. They often take up the whole freaking road. :cuss:

Eh, tractors don't annoy me, and neither do the Amish buggies. I look at them and I think, "Why the h*ll am I rushing?! Slow down, there's nowhere that important I have to be." Getting to Walmart 5 minutes sooner is not going to change my life for the better.:)

I would say I'm a pretty good driver, I've been driving since I was 18(yes I got my license late) and I've only had 1 speeding ticket in all that time, and only 1 serious accident that was not my fault someone pulled out in front of me

Now the men in my family are DANGEROUS, they tailgate, speed everything, I refuse to ride with my dad, cause when I do, I swear I've lost 10 years of my life

I'm the opposite, I think people who are in a hurry are more dangerous and more likely to cause accidents, seriously how much faster can you get there when you have to pass all those cars? passing those cars takes as much time if not more than anything else :(

I deal with that alot where I live, I'm constantly stuck behind tractors, some aren't too big, and usually get over as much as they can so we can get around them, but most of them I encounter are on country roads. Some of the tractors though are so big they take up the whole road and you can't get around them at all :cuss:

Now the amish buggies don't bother me, but I've seen too many people try to pass them and things and end up causing the buggy to wreck and people get badly injured or killed :(

I'm a pretty bad driver. I take out curbs all the time because I have a low car and can't really see them that well. I've had my car for not even 4 months and have been through 2 new tires.. I have the standards: road rage, speeding...I don't know how the hell I managed to get a license. I was in the car with my Mom the other day and I was getting screamed at for driving too fast. They buy me a fast car and then expect me to go the speed limit?

I drive pretty damn well for a 15 year old who hasn't gone to driving school yet. My mother is probably the best driver I've ever met, so her and I go out driving a few times a week. I don't get my permit until May.

At first I was a little shaky, but I'm okay now. My problem is I love speed... that, and I've got major road rage. Thank God I don't own a gun.

I have about the same patience as Crystal and Chris... I got a kick out of reading their posts because that is so me. I'm pretty patient and tame in other aspects of my life, but I'm so intense on the road. I constantly pass people, I don't go the speed limit when I don't have to and I feel the need to compete with those going faster than me. Huge traffic gets to me because that means I get slowed down.

I've yet to be pulled over (20 minutes before I got my license doesn't count because that po-dunk town had a sign blocked by a bush and the officer let me go), but I did slightly back my car into something the first week I got it... at least it was only damage to my car.

In my opinion, my biggest problem would be with parking, although it is getting better. I was actually quite good at parallel parking when I was learning to drive (I've avoided it since)--and yes you guessed it, I do that FAST too!

Though sometimes, there will be one car passing everyone, and then I feel the need to pass them after.

When I go down to Danville and stuff, Rt. 16 is 55MPH and one lane.. but every so often they have a .. SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT and they add another lane for about a mile. I pass everyone and stick in the left lane, and if someone passes me I get all worked up and feel the need to pass them. Way down the line when I do catch up to pass them, Im finally relieved. Its like closure for me.

My mother used to have road rage like I've never seen.. to the point where I was afraid to be in the same car with her. I get pissed off and I'll mutter a few curse words, but that's about it. I had a guy who kept riding my tail for miles late one night, honking his horn, flipping on his brights then shutting them off, hoping I'd get out of the way. So I finally did. He did that to everybody. Little ways down, he flipped himself over because someone had slammed on their breaks.

I felt the same way.. of course you don't want someone to wind up dead or hurt, but that guy was asking for it. None of us were driving too slow, so for him to be that agressive, he was asking for it.

When I was younger (teens and 20s), I had a lead foot and had my share of speeding tickets.

Today, I'm a cautious driver. I'm proud to say that I've never had an accident in 30+ years of driving. *knock on wood*

My husband on the other hand, scares the hell out of me. He drives like he owns the road...changes lanes constantly, takes chances, etc. It's like being on a roller coaster.

And my car was impounded a few times.
But that was for expired inspection stickers and once because I didn't have my insurance card, which was a bogus charge because I had my friggin insurance policy IN THE CAR WITH ME, but the cop wanted to break my chops becasue I didn't have the insurance CARD with me.

Anyway, I've had a clean driving record for almost a decade.

Probably because I haven't owned a car in almost a decade.

I will admit I am agressive with some road rage, thats only because of the way other people drive! I just hate it when someone pulls out in front of you!

I like to drive pretty fast and I hate when I get stuck behind some old fart! A lot of times Ill either pass them or theyll pull over for me. Ive been pulled over 3 times, but only got one ticket. I go the main way to work instead of all the back roads because I drive really slow on them because Im so nervous an animal is going to run out in front of me since it does happen a lot on back roads.

I drive like this: ;)

Actually, that's just once in a while. But I get bored if I had to drive slow all the time... that's why I own Cadillacs with 375 horsepower! I've gotta open up the secondaries (on the carburetor) sometimes just for fun.

I've never had an accident on the street, and no speeding tickets, which is kind of a miracle.

I drive cautiously but lately I've been having a bit of bad luck. One evening this car was double park because of the snow and I slammed into their side mirror. I broke my mirror too in the process.

Not only that.......... the car I'm driving is long so I tried to park it in front of the mall and I put a big gnash on the side of it. By that I mean I hit an SUV that was parked and I made a gnash on the side of my vehicle with their bumper. I've never driven like this. It's only lately.

My husband on the other hand, scares the hell out of me. He drives like he owns the road...changes lanes constantly, takes chances, etc. It's like being on a roller coaster.

That's how damn near everyone in Phoenix drives. Scares the hell out of me.

Well, I think I drive better than 99% of teens, 85% of women, and 99.99999999% of men in trucks. I've only had one speeding warning and that was 10 years ago a week after I got my license. Only had one accident. I hit a parked car on a snowy day.

I'm neutral...in situations where there's minimal traffic at best, when I'm in an area the police isn't (I've lived in this region for 19 years - I know pretty much every stop point), I do go faster (though not beyond reason). However, when conditions (traffic, road type, weather, the possibility of a pull-over, relatives being in the car) warrant it, I DO go slower.

Cautious... usually go right at the speed limit or slightly below unless I'm on the open road with no traffic. No wrecks yet.

I believe it. I'm going to NYC in two months, so I will be able to see it for myself. It's just as bad in London. Apparently they have some sort of "4 second" rule there.

I've been fortunate in that I've never had an accident while driving, either. And I've never received a ticket either, but I did receive a warning once for speeding...

Believe it or not I think the outer boroughs of NYC are worse than driving in Manhattan. The only thing I hate about Manhattan is trying to find a parking.

I'm sure you're very cautious, but don't count on others to be. My car has been hit so many times, just while its parked. I think I'm pretty safe. I go the speed limit, and I always use my turn signal.

Me, too. I always use my turn signal... it's so easy to use- just move the little lever up or down!
I sure wish all motorists would use theirs. It probably would prevent a lot of accidents.

hahahaha that brought a huge smile to my face. that was my old cat's name! i never quite knew why. hmm..

anyway. i'm.. a terrible driver. i'm fourteen, but yeah. my friend let me drive her mom's friend's van across the yard over the summer when i was helping them move out. the first question i asked when i got in the driver's seat was "which one is the gas pedal?" my life flashed before my eyes. O_o
my boyfriend also let me drive his car around the school parking lot after a basketball game one night. it was icey. that was a bad idea.

In my 2 years of driving, i've been pulled over 4 times, only got a ticket once, which my uncle got me out of anyways. I got pulled over doing 60 in a 15(who the hell knew a construction lane is 15 mph) and the cop let me go because i was a "gentleman" haha. I've been in 2 accidents, the first one i was hit from behind by a drunk driver, $10,000 worth of damage later, not my fault. 2nd accident was hit on the parkway. I was at a complete stop waiting in traffic and some dumb girl just decides to plow into the back of my car.

but i'm a good driver, just have bad luck. i've been good with the speeding thing, though, since all my friends have been getting tickets.

Yea, there's a section of interstate here that's under construction and it's down to 45 mph...and it's pretty much impossible to go anything under 60. Yea, I'm pretty sure they put it that low on purpose just to give out as many tickets as possible.

I'm a pretty good driver most of the times. There's times where I occasionally don't turn on the turn signal, and I'll speed (only about 5 - 10 over) when I'm not in cop territory. (they pretty much control this town and are so predictable where they hide out)

A friend of mine let me drive his car 1 day (He was on the passenger side) and the sheriff went in front of us....... My friend said "Sh*t the sheriff" as he passed.....

It was fun though,I can drive pretty well..... One time my parents werent home 4 the weekend and I took the station wagon out to the service station for a soda..... Thats the only time I did that though....

I know how to drive I just dont want the hassle with a 6hr driving test.. I dont need one,I am a good driver...... I cant back into a space however... (Parrellel parking) I dont think anyway.......

 I know what you mean... especially about that "closure"! And I seem to remember the times when I have been unable to catch up with someone because it feels like it's a defeat, lol. Even when they are erratic and going over 100 on the freeway, which thankfully, I don't attempt... I let those goofs pass me by. Once on the freeway, not long after someone did that, I saw them getting pulled over. It was great! If I had tried to keep up with them, it could have been me. Knock on wood, no tickets so far!

Boy, I'd hate it if we met up on the road sometime! ;)

Oh yes... I don't give up right away either, hehe. Takes me a little bit to realize they aren't worth catching. I'm the same way about worrying about scary road rage too! Although I'm agressive on the road, I try and avoid the obscene gestures... when I have done it a few times, I get flushed and think, "Uh oh, hope they aren't a psycho!" I also avoid the horn a lot for the same reason. Hopefully, the little I do hold back will save me any driving trouble in the future. ;)

Well, I was quite the little freak 17 years ago lmao

Last time I was pulled out was a year ago, thank God, the police officer was cool and just gave me a warning. (Had my fair share of speeding tickets).

A good sensible driver and in the 60+ yrs of driving I probably got 2 parking tickets and never a moving violation. I had to give up driving about 5 yrs ago due to damage from major surgery and honestly don't miss it and the albatross it can be in our lives. I drove a LOT and glad I can walk.

A friend let me drive his car in the 80s and I did not like the car behind us!! (I thought they were looking at me,etc)

Probably too fast. If the limit is 65, I'm probably at 70 or 75. But there are drivers that are way worse.

I can't stand 2 things:

1. Drivers that don't signal.
2. Tailgating - even on an interstate. JUST PASS!
