My Underrated TV Show from the 70's is Welcome Back Kotter. Very Entrtaining Show.

WKRP in Cincinatti, it had an outstanding cast and the storylines were great, I just think it ended too soon.

Putting aside all the short-lived shows, I would agree with Welcome Back, Kotter. Brilliant show that never caught on the way it should have.

Other shows that came on during the 70s that was underrated:
Nanny and the Professor - Makings of a great cute family show but was not given a fair shake.

The New Dick Van Dyke Show - It might not have been as good as the original but the Arizona episodes were more entertaining to watch than the Hollywood episodes. I think if the element of the show was other than show business it would not been compared so much to the original. Many of the episodes were somewhat remakes of the original and the characters were very much in some ways like the original DVDS. The show in many ways was ahead of its time.

Room 222 - Could had gone down as a classic. Went off the air too soon.

Bridget Loves Bernie - Great show was taken off due to pressure from religious groups.

Rhoda - If they did not marry her off immediately it would have been in the same league with The Mary Tyler Moore Show. After Rhoda's wedding the show was lacking direction and plus there was no real chemistry between Valerie Harper and David Groh.

Kotter and WKRP are great choices.

Courtship of Eddie's Father is my vote. Yeah, it's cutsy, but it's not sappy.

The Magician is another one. It wasn't given a chance.

Eight Is Enough--A great comedy-drama that ended way too soon. I liked Diana Hyland when she played the first Mrs. Bradford but she died suddenly. Betty Buckley was the perfect stepmother in every which way because the kids didn't hate her at all.
Family--A great drama that also ended way too soon as well. Great cast,great stories,great show.

The actress was Betty Buckley who played the stepmother Abby on Eight Is Enough. The cool thing about Abby was she was more of a friend to the children and not trying to be their mom. The closest to anyone she was a mother to was Nicholas because he was 8 at the time Abby came along.

Eight Is Enough was a great show but it quickly ran out of ideas by the fourth season. What killed it was all these characters they were adding especially Ralph Maccio from the Karate Kid.

Family was a great show from beginning to end. The cast was excellent and the show held your interest. Meredith Baxter Birney was outstanding in that show and she was quite a hottie on there.

I edited out my mistake on Betty Buckley. I had just woke up and I knew the name but was thinking of something else at the time.

And Family Ties was supposed to be a drama too.
But for some reason (I think when they discovered Michael Gross' deadpan humor).... they decided to make it a comedy.

Very ironic. But on Family she was the oldest daughter and single divorced mom and on Family Ties she was a married working mom.

Meredith's acting on Family was far superior than Family Ties. Meredith is more natural as a dramatic actress than a sitcom actress.

I definatly get that vibe too. I like FT, and Meredith is good on it, but watch one of her movies on Lifetime or LMN and the woman is like a water faucet! An angry one too!

I don;t think TC was in the underrated category. The show received lots of positive reviews during it;s original run.

well, religious leaders such as pastors, priest, and ministers from all over the country looked down upon three's company and i even believe that they tried to get the show off the air as well as the tv show soap.

As much as I love Three's Company and John Ritter, Three's Company def. got overrated :)

It was a big ratings hit when it originally aired, as you know. But any show that has a large audience and consistently good ratings as TC did is anything but underrated.

Betty Broderick is serving time in prison for killing her ex-husband and his wife of six months. Far cry from Betty Buckley. LOL:lol:
