Opus2 10-05-2004, 04:59 PM Does anybody know of a Moonlighting Soundtrack that is available that would include the hook that was played so often during the trilogy that concluded with "I am curious.......Maddie"? You know .....that melodramatic piano rift that played with every glance or pause?
CindyK 10-05-2004, 06:12 PM Sorry I do not know of an instrumental soundtrack put out of Alf Clausen's work on Moonlighting. The closest we have is the official soundtrack album from the series released in 1987 which has songs (all have vocals) used in the series--including the theme song by Al Jarreau and other pop classics used on the series.
Opus2 10-05-2004, 08:09 PM Thanks for the reply CindyK. I was afraid that might be the case. That's a shame, though. It just seemed that in those series of episodes (which are my favorites) the choice and timing of the music was just so on and fit the mood.....and, in some cases, even helped to form the mood. What a shame that they couldn't have fit this music onto the official soundtrack.
david&maddie4ever 10-10-2004, 11:07 PM Hey, Opus. Just wanted to welcome you to Sitcoms Online and the Moonlighting board. My name's Lauren...great to have you here!
Opus2 10-10-2004, 11:13 PM Hi Lauren! Thank you so much for the welcome. It is great to be among fellow Moonlighting fanatics. Even better to know that I am not alone. Thanks again!:)
MulberryGal 10-11-2004, 04:35 AM Welcome Opus!!!
It's a great board, come and post often!!

The music on Moonlighting was chosen so perfectly! I hope it is not another casualty on the DVDs. I know music rights can be expensive but in the case of Moonlighting, it gave the show a very distinctive feel. It was often so integral to a scene that the quality would suffer greatly if it were changed in any way.
Opus2 10-12-2004, 09:35 PM Thanks so much Mulberry! I plan to do just that. Oh CyBr, I couldn't agree with you more. The music so often tended to mold prefectly with the scene. Often, it seemed to drive the scene. I do hope that the music will make it to the DVD's untouched and in it's original place. On a side note.......has anyone been able to get an idea if the DVD release is going to be just season 1, or the entire series run??

Well, there's a post about that very topic, but everything's pretty wishy-washy right now.
At first, the DVDs of what we think would've been Season 1 were supposed to be released on November 30th of this year, but then the date was pushed back indefinitely. Bruce said at his site that they were shooting for some time after Christmas.
Right now, I'm not sure what's getting released. I personally think that Seasons 1 and 2 should be released at the same time because they're both so short and actually equal a regular full season when added together.
Opus2 10-14-2004, 11:06 AM I will take anything I can get at this point. All I have on VHS is a very ROUGH copy of "I Am Curious......Maddie". Seeing as how this is my all time favorite episode, I am hoping that they will release the season that contained that episode, along with the ones leading up to it. But whichever season is released......let's just DO IT already!

I couldn't agree more. I'm way too desperate right now to be nit-picky. :p
Dutchie 10-18-2004, 10:27 AM What's The Dreamsequence without music?
Opus2 11-11-2004, 12:11 AM I love this. I was riding down the Interstate this afternoon, and a song came on that always reminds of an ML episode. It was "I've Been Waiting" by Foreigner (I think). I remember vividly in the episode we saw David riding in his car lost in deep thought (no doubt about Maddie). And then it switches to Maddie in her car doing the same........hand propping up her head.....lost in thought (about David, naturally). But I need some help. Does anyone recall what episode this was and why they were both driving separately and thinking about one another? What had preceeded this scene? This may be one for Cindy K.! :) But every time I hear this song, I always smile and think of ML.:D
CindyK 11-11-2004, 12:36 AM Hey Opus
The only time "Waiting for a Girl Like You" by Foreigner was used in a ML episode was in The Man Who Cried Wife...but no one was driving in a car. Maddie was very impatiently waiting for David to come back in the office after she had forbid him from working on a case with a client that looks like might have struck and killed his wife. She waits and stews by the elevator and then goes back in the office....and when David enters, they get into a big row which leads to her slapping him. This slap I do have a clip of on my website on this page http://www.davidandmaddie.com/chem-clips.htm This scene is the middle clip on the second row of clips.
Opus2 11-11-2004, 12:45 AM Thanks Cindy! See, I KNEW that you would know. But one more question: what was on screen while the music was playing? What was happening? Set the scene for us, if you willl.:)
CindyK 11-11-2004, 11:36 AM Maybe I didn't explain this very clearly. Maddie was first sitting at her desk, then pacing around the office, checking the elevator and impatiently waiting for David. That is it. We saw her waiting at the office for him to come in. We did not see what David was doing during the song. Right when the Foreigner song ended, David entered the office singing/humming "It's Your Thing" by the Isley Brothers and then they got into the big argument.
Opus2 11-11-2004, 06:48 PM Hmmmmm.......that seems odd. I am certainly not disputing you Cindy. But why would they just show Maddie during a song that says "I've been waiting for girl like you"?
CindyK 11-11-2004, 07:06 PM Because they only used an excerpt from the song....the music intro and then part that says "I've been waiting......Waiting for you...." No where in the excerpt they used did we hear the lyrics "Waiting for a girl like you." They wanted to emphasize the fact that she was very impatiently waiting.....
Just a little comment here. I thought the choice of that song was a little unsusual in that it "dated" the show very much in the 80's. Although the lyrics fit, the song seemed a bit out of place to me since Moonlighting is typically so 60's and Motown, giving it a more timeless feel than some other shows from that era. (Big hair and shoulder pads aside! :D )
CindyK 11-12-2004, 12:11 AM Well they did sometimes use contemporary songs....
How about Yankee Rose by David Lee Roth in The Son Also Rises....or Nasty by Janet Jackson in Blonde on Blonde or Jericho by Simply Red in To Heiress Human or Sweet Love by Anita Baker in The Son Also Rises or Avalon by Roxy Music in When Girls Collide?
Opus2 11-12-2004, 01:36 PM OK....I can certainly see that now after you have explained the scene Cindy. Thanks.;) I need to somehow obtain this episode. Hey.......I got it! What say we push for DVD's of the show?!?! Oh wait.....we have. The latest news about that has totally ruined what I thought would be a nice Christmas gift to myself. But an excellent point CyBr about choosing 80's music over the standard Motown sound that was a staple.

CindyK, do you happen to have a list of all songs used on Moonlighting with the name of the song and artist?
