Does anyone remember Disneyland book and records?They were small books that came with a record the size of a 45 record,but for speed 33.Side 1 had the voice of a lady say"This is a Disneyland original little long playing record,and I am your story reader.You can read along with me in your book.You will know it is time to turn the page,when Tinker Bell rings her little bells like this."She would then read the story of the book throughout side 1.By the way,these mostly storybook and record versions of classic Walt Disney cartoon features,such as Peter Pan,Snow White,Cinderella,Pinocchio and The Jungle Book.Side 2 would have songs from the movie soundtracks.I used to have a collection of them as a child.One thing interesting was how this series had two different story readers.Meaning that some of them had the voice of an American lady.Others had the voice of a British lady.Not to mention,when it was the American story reader,the bells of Tinker Bell sounded much like Tinker Bell.But when we had the British story reader,Tink's bells had a xylophone like sound.The exact bells that the American story reader used,where also heard in the book and record versions of the ever popular Peanuts(Charlie Brown & Snoopy)TV specials.

I remember the Disneyland record and book as a kid. I used to have some records with a 45-RPM looking record with not a big hole in the center, it was a small hole. I also remember I used to have a book and cassette of the titles. The ones I have since I was a kid was a Disneyland 12' record with stories attached to it. I have plenty of Disney records in my collection. It's now a collector's item.:)

Robie Lester (b.Texas, 1929, d.2005) was that storyteller. You can hear Robie on many Disneyland records----"The Cowardly Lion of Oz" as little girl "Forget Me Not" (with Sam Edwards as the Lion--he was on the World War II era "Hilary Duff/Amanda Bynes" radio show "Corliss Archer" starring HANNA-BARBERA voice Janet "Judy" Waldo!!!!), Dallas McKennon as the prince and Ginny Tyler as the princess and the witch). In fact there were a lot (with those parties mentioend above) of (and Hanna-Barbera's HBR records did this too!) substitute castings of movies...Joe Blow would do a voice, then Jack Whack (Black's already taken!) would do the record voice,etc.

Ready for who that BRITISH vocie was? LOIS LANE!! (Yes, she was not named that but used that..was a younger and HOT looking girl, heard in 1970s). DIsney uised Ginny Tyler and singer-songwriter-pianist Rica Moore as well as some of those my age (I'm 46, turned 46 last weekend, Decembeer 8, sorry not to mention it..) were heard, and also Sterling Holloway of course. Music was by "Camarata" (1940s bandleader Jimmy Dorsey's arranger--I'm probaly telling more than you need to know..---the one who came up with the slow boy singing then girl singing in jazzy style adopted by comic bandleader Kay Kyser (1906-1985) for "On a Slow boat to China". The post was about the story teller, though..:))

I remember that weird tinkling of pixie dust..as Robie L. would say.."and NOW...pleae turn the page..once you hear TINKER BELL ring her bells."
