View Full Version : Last night's ratings.......off by 11%
LuV2DreeM 10-04-2004, 11:26 PM Now they have me checking out tv.zap2it.com for our ratings.
Thanks, I think I'm becoming paranoid.
Here it is:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Among adults 18-49, ABC scored a bigger win with a 5.5 rating in the key demographic. CBS stuck around in second with a 3.6 rating. NBC's 3.1 rating and the 2.4 for FOX followed. The WB stayed in fifth with a 1.2 rating.
CBS began the night in first with a 10.1/18 for "60 Minutes." Another newsmagazine, "Dateline NBC," was second with a 5.9/11. ABC started off in third with "America's Funniest Home Videos." On FOX, repeats of "King of the Hill" and "The Simpsons" averaged a 3.8/7. The WB was last with "Steve Harvey's Big Time."
At 8 p.m. CBS stayed on top with a 10.5/17 for "Cold Case." ABC improved to second with "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," which did an 8.3/13. NBC was nearly off the radar in third with the 4.9/8 for "American Dreams." FOX's "Rush Hour 2" screening outperformed the 2.7/4 for "Charmed" on The WB.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Summed up? We lost about 11% viewership and got creamed by the other two major networks.
The 18-49 demographic people keep bragging about is not in our favor.
I hope the president still likes us and has pull. I don't think NBC would normally like this kind of start to a season.
We got beat by Dateline again, still keeping open the possibility they would just make it a 2 hour show again and can us.
Tell me I'm wrong.........PLEASE.
Peace.
Last season, AD only really had to face Cold Case as I think ABC had 10-8 or something which AD usually beat. Now it has to go against Extreme Makeover: Home Edition on ABC also which is a big hit. If they only cared about ratings, I think they would have moved it to another night and timeslot by now. NBC's ratings are down across the board.

Peace. You're wrong they aren't going to can a show until the season ends unless its doing really bad and Ad is not 5.5 is good cause it still up there enough to stay on.....
If its below 3 million then the show is in trouble and The Mountain is one of those shows in deep trouble......
Dateline is nothing compared to Ad.....If I keep seeing people having no faith in Ad and keep up saying we'll get canned and etecetra.....I'm going to stop posting here....
Cause all its doing is putting me down......
Like I said ad has a 22 episode order for Seaon 3......its not getting canned.....Mel :(

You're not being realistic. You can't compare WB numbers with NBC numbers. 3 million isn't necessarily a horrible thing for the WB. But aside from that, what makes you think that NBC would want to hold on to a show finishing third in the time slot and not improving? And it's a show that costs a decent amount of money to produce, with the music, the guest stars and everything else. If the show is going to constantly end up a distant third place in the ratings, why wouldn't NBC extend the less expensive news magazine to fill the time slot? It makes sense that if they aren't going to get big ratings anyway, they'd do it with a less cost effective program. I love American Dreams as much as anybody, but you're living in a fantasy if you don't think AD is in danger of being cancelled.

Nope sorry I'm not living a fantasyI'm living The Real World and not the tv show.....
What because I know how to keep up my positive attitude and support for Ad I'm not being realistic give me a break..........
And I don't need to come post here every night seeing what people say about it being canned and stuff and get put down about at all.....Mel ohno:
LuV2DreeM 10-06-2004, 10:51 AM At least we all agree on one thing:
We love the show.
But healthy discussion does have different points of view. It's what democracy is all about.
Two shows does NOT a trend make. This coming Sunday will be the third and we will see if a trend of loss of viewership is in the works here.
We can't forget that the president of programming (or some title like that) is the one who has so much faith in us. It was enough to renew for 22 or 23 last January, although we all know the "word" of Hollywood is not worth the air it's said in.
No, we shoud NOT just hide our heads in the sand like a silly ostrich and wake up one day and say "what happened to our show?".
And we should also NOT degrade one another when we all are for the show.
Let's let time tell.
This Sunday is BIG for that reason.
Peace.

For clarification purposes, lest anyone gets the inference that I was "degrading" someone, I was pointing out the reality of the numbers in my post, and I made points in my post to back up my reason for not being optimistic for the show's future. My post wasn't a personal knock against Storywriter. However, I stand by what I said about not being realistic. We can all hope the show does well, but when a show comes in a distant third place and losing audience from week to week, it's silly to blindly believe that just because "ad has a 22 episode order for Seaon 3......its not getting canned"

Well it offends me sorry......Sorry I don't need to to get put down seeing what you people say here about ratings and stuff.....
So I'm just going to reply to people I want to reply too and then in a few weeks I will make my decision whether I'm staying here or leaving the AD sitcoms online section.....
So far it looks like I may be leaving here and I say this cause they are people here I get along with and a few I don't .....
And everytime I come here somebody is posting stuff about ratings they read at a crappy probably not even all true site called Zap zip and all its doing is putting me down....
Take care......Mel :bye:
LuV2DreeM 10-07-2004, 11:38 AM Knowing "where" any tv show is in the ratings is not "putting it down" nor "showing lack of support".
To ignore the ratings of a show you purport to "love" when EVERYONE knows the people making the decisions of whether to keep that show on tv or not, is ludicrous.
I know the president of some NBC office kept this show on the air last January by "commtting" to another season because he said "I like it"......but how many times have you heard that reason for keeping a show on?
As long as he has that job and that opinion .........WE ARE SAFE.
I guess a good test would be for ratings to keep falling and we will see if his "commitment to a full season" is real or not.......I'm a little scared to go through with it though.
Peace.
IheartMoonlighting 10-09-2004, 08:15 PM Jeff Zucker is the one who is keeping the show alive not the viewers.
LuV2DreeM 10-10-2004, 09:06 AM I found this on the 'net about Jeff Zucker, from summer 2001 (I've edited out some of the story):
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Talk about competitive, this summer the peacock's programming president has made NBC a reality powerhouse with The Weakest Link and Fear Factor. And he just scored a coup in the youth department, by luring MTVs biggest star, Carson Daly to NBC.
Is NBC priming him for any other higher profile position? Zucker responds, "We certainly will try and utilize his unique abilities."
Zucker says, "NBC is celebrating 50 years of late night this fall. It's just great to add another Carson to the great line-up of late night hosts who have come before him."
And Jeff Zucker knows a thing or two about wooing and keeping good talent. In particular, the mother lode of all talent right now at NBC, Katie Couric. After 10 years on Today, the queen of the morning could be getting restless. But Zucker, Katie's former boss on the breakfast show, is confident he can keep Couric.
Whether it's today or tomorrow, sooner or later Jeff Zucker gets his
way.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I guess I feel a little safer now. Sounds like this Zucker chap has a lot of pull. I just hope he remains a fan of our show for a long time to come.
I would still feel a little better if the ratings could start climbing.
Peace.
People ...People... lets all agree we all love this show and hate to see it canned after creating a small yet loyal fan base. I agree that it doesn't have any danger of being cancelled before the season ends but for next year... well as someone wrote only time will tell. I wonder why NBC don't plug the guest celebrity singers who are on "American Bandstand" more. God bless Jeff Zuckor for sticking with this show and still supporting it even if it doesn't do well in the high ratings.

Agreed, the ratings aren't looking good--but the thing to remember is that the show is now up against some ferocious competition--competition it didn't face last year. Also, as someone else pointed out, you need to look at AD's performance in context with the performance of the rest of NBC's lineup. With that in mind, I'm feeling cautiously optimistic about the rest of the season at least. The time to worry is if NBC begins yanking it out of the lineup or starts playing musical time-slots with the show or moves it to a kiss of death night such as Friday night. However, next year is another matter entirely, because, I think that if the show doesn't begin picking up steam a fourth season might very well be in jeopardy.
Should we break out into fits of doom and gloom now? No, now is not the time to rush about like chickens with our heads cut off; but at the same time, we shouldn't stick our heads in the sand and ignore the fact that the numbers are declining and that at the end of the day, NBC is a business and it's going to make decisions based on the bottom line.
So...what can we as fans do?
Well...1) We can write the network letting them know how much we enjoy the show and also that we are letting our money talk as well by purchasing the sponsors' products
2) We can write the sponsors letting them know how much we appreciate their sponsorship and that we are showing that appreciation by buying their products
3) If you're in the age group affected, by entering the Campbells Soup Contest--who knows, you might end up with a hundred thousand dollar scholarship!
4) You can "Dream" friends and neighbors as well as the local community. So...how do you "Dream" someone? You invite them to your house on Sunday night...pop some popcorn and have plenty of liquid refreshments...pop in a first season dvd and show that to them and then watch the new episode with them when it airs. Now, how do you "Dream" your local community? Well...this is a bit more involved. One idea is to try to get local radio stations to plug the show--especially oldies stations. Another is to get together with fellow AD fans and donate dvds to local public libraries and schools. The goal is to put the show forth in the public eye...hopefully it'll generate buzz and people will tune in.
Above all, be positive--be concerned--but be positive...

I get some members jumping down my throat so I keep my positivness to myself now and respond to people here I wanna respond too......Mel :)
LuV2DreeM 10-20-2004, 10:41 AM No one here suggests you should keep your positiveness to yourself. Upbeat people are a joy to be around. When they talk about declining ratings, it's not because they are being negative.......or positive. They are just showing care or concern about AD remaining on the air.
Keep the upbeat attitude, by all means.
Peace.
