When Norman and Audra left to do The Ropers, Norman had an agreement that if the show didn't make it within a year, he could return to TC. Since the show lasted 14 months, the agreement fell through. Should Norman have been allowed to return to TC? I'm not sure. By that time, I think Audra was ready to move on, and I don't think it would been as funny to have Mr. Roper without Helen. Of course, the Ropers should never have left in the first place, but it's easy to say that 20 years later.

I'm sorry to say, I don't miss the Ropers. I'd pick Mr. Furley anyday. Yeah, it sucks that he couldn't come back, but that was the deal he got. The Ropers were annoying, all those sex jokes - it was the same joke 10,000 times. Mr. Furley was a lot more colorful. Just my opinion.

They should've returned as tenents.

I agree with who ever said that Ropers got annoying after awhile was right.Mr. Furley was better but thats not to say that I didn't like the Ropers.

they could've returned, but i would of missed Mr.Furley. Without Don Knotts, the show wouldnt of been as great as it was.

I think a deal is a deal....and since he exceeded the time limit, I agree with them, that they didn't take him back. I like Mr. Furley and I liked the Ropers....but the same sex joke did get old. I liked someone's idea of bringing them back as tenants....that would be funny!

But he exceeded the limit by one and a half months! That's not a lot. They could at least have them drop in everyone once in a while, like 5 out of 22 episodes. Don was good, but I think Norman & Audra fit in better with their characters.

I think Mr. Furley was alot funnier and played a better landlord than the ropers. better plots were made around a landlord for the show. The ropers were good but i dont see where the show would have gone.
