View Full Version : Joyce DeWitt At Autograph Show- Photos
Fleet 10-03-2004, 07:25 PM Okay, here is the first photo of Joyce at the Hollywood Collectors Show. This was taken on the first day (Saturday).
I don't know why it came out very light. I used the same film I always do. What I'll do, when I have reprints made, I'll ask them to darken them a little.
I'll comment on today's show in a while. One thing though... Joyce was at the show both days! I was hoping she would be! I talked to her quite a bit today, in between when fans were coming up to her table and having photos signed.
I Love John Ritter 10-03-2004, 07:27 PM Thank you for sharing this pic! She looks great! Wish I could of gone.

Yes, I saw Larry. There was a line to see him, but not a long line; nothing like the line for Don Knotts when he shows up!
BTW, I was too busy with Joyce get a good look at him. I did notice that he has white hair now.
Fleet 10-03-2004, 08:32 PM This a a photo of Joyce with me.
She was posing with people a lot because I noticed that most fans brought a camera.
Fleet 10-03-2004, 08:50 PM I gave Joyce copies of a few things, like TV ratings from 1970s newpapers I collected.
I also asked her to sign a few things. Here is one of them. It's an article about Joyce from "Star" magazine, Aug. 29, 1978. She was amazed that I had something from that long ago.
I'm glad she signed. It's more fun to look at, now.
Janet Tripper 10-03-2004, 09:56 PM Thanks!! Fleet!! OMG this is the best thing to come home to after a whole day of studying and doing nothing but homework!!! Thakns a lot she looks really pretty and so happy!!!! I have that same article...but I totally like urs the best too!!! Thanks again for sharing all this with us!!! U so ROCK!
Fleet 10-03-2004, 10:54 PM I'll post more pics later.
Here is what I gave her today relating to this message board...
"Three's Company" board:
- "Happy Birthday." (2003 and 2004)
- "First Annual Three's Company Awards Show."
- "Jack and Janet Holding Hands."
- A copy of thread list, 1-31-04 to 2-15-04, so Joyce could see what some of the subjects/threads look like.
On the "Chit Chat" board:
- "Name A Beautiful Brunette." (Jan., 2004)
- "Who's The Prettiest Actress?" (July, 2003)
I also gave Joyce the pic I posted above (the one of myself and her.) This way, she can't forget me!
M4cong 10-03-2004, 11:19 PM wow. Fleet. you are the one of the luckiest people ever. I am so happy for you. I absolutely think she is the nicest and sweetest person ever.....and this just proves it. Thank U so much for sharing the pics and article that she signed. That was so nice of you. Hey.....was she really little or short...i mean, did you notice that about her??? just curious !!! ;)
AGAIN, I am so happy for you!!!! What did she say about the threads?? Anything??

I went to the show today, and I was there pretty much when it opened. I talked with her manager (or so I believe). He said he convinced her to do this. There may have been other influences, but I do not know them. Anyways, I was there early, and she came a little late. Question: Has anyone seen her with black sunglasses? I did. Quite the spectacle. I had to get some more cash to purchase a signed copy of a script too. By the time I got back, a line was already forming. Not too long, but still there nonetheless.
Fleet was right though, that there were plenty of cameras (I helped a couple before me to shoot a photo). It was a new, and refreshing experience to talk to such a legend. It was short (sad for me, yes) but I did impress her (not as much as others however). I do wish that I could have talked to her longer (or more later on), but alas, I had to leave almost as soon as I arrived. Still, this day made my year! I ended up choosing the photo of her with a red shirt and a close-up of her face.
So all in all, I am at peace (totally blissed out). If she does do this convention again, I'll gladly go again.
One last thing: Ms. Joyce DeWitt is truly one-of-a-kind...
Fleet 10-04-2004, 12:48 AM Yes, it was very nice to meet her after all of these years. I even said to her, "It is nice to meet you after 27 years." And she said, "I would say it is about time you did."
You're right, she is very nice. She called me "sweetie" and "darling" a few times! Will pose for pics with anyone and sign anything which is handed to her. And will just talk and answer fan's questions with anyone who was at her autograph table.
I would say she is about the height which those fan books say (5' 3 and 1/2 "). If she was wearing high heels (which she wasn't) she would have looked a few inches taller.
While I was giving her the threads, I did point out a few things. Like the one about "who is prettiest" or "Name a Beautiful Brunette" (I forgot which one), I showed her that her name was the 4th or 5th one posted. She was impressed and flattered with that!
I showed her the Birthday threads, but since there were so many pages for that one, we both thought it was a good idea to read that one later (remember, there were, at times, people in line waiting).
Another thing I gave her. The website "We Miss You, Joyce DeWitt." I printed the whole front/home page of that website. She really liked that. I don't think she was aware of how many times her name shows up in websites and message boards. I sure hope she gets a computer!
One last thing... when I showed her the "Jack & Janet Holding Hands Thread," I thought it was a good time to ask her the main question in that thread. (Why did she hold hands so often with John but not Suzanne?) She told me that while she liked Suzanne very much, she was a lot closer to John. They were similar in many ways, for instance both being theater trained. And they had similar personalities. So, according to Joyce herself, no, there was no "secret meaning" behind all of that hand-holding on "Three's Company," other than the fact that they were very good friends.
Okay, more on this tomorrow!

Hey, DuffMan... did you drive all the way from San Diego come to this show?
I did not see her with sunglasses; she must have put them on when I wasn't around. I was there about 11:00 AM and went back about 2:15 PM. (Sunday) and about 11:15 AM (Saturday).
Oh, I was going to ask Joyce who had the idea to attend this show. I'm sure glad that her manager (or whoever he was) talked her into doing this show!
I would talk to her for a few minutes, then wait for the line to end, then talk a little more. In fact, it was hard to leave her! I hope she comes to this show again. The probability is, I would guess, kind of high because she is used to travelling, and because many first-timers return again. (And, she probably made a lot of money for only two days "work").
Yes, Joyce DeWitt is one-of-a-kind! I enjoyed meeting and talking to her as much as I did with Dawn Wells (Mary Ann), another of my favorites.
DuffMann2G 10-04-2004, 02:01 AM Damn straight I did! Yeah, I drove 110 miles to meet her (and another 110 to get back home. I'd probably go to the ends of the Earth to meet her (if it was the only chance that I could get). I left before 10:50 a.m. and I was one of probably 30 or less people to get in there. She was a little late and she did have sunglasses coming in. She most likely put them into her purse. Still a marvel to behold.
I hope she does do this again. Next time I'm taking the train though. The drive is excrutiatingly harsh, but durable (aside from the 30 + minute standstill on the freeway). I left early to avoid traffic, and the way there was nice (I was going 90 mph many times, so I did that journey in about an hour and a half). Still, this day defined the rest of the year. Next time, I will have more time on my hands and I will be prepared with interesting things to talk about. Then again, we'll just have to wait and see. I am hopeful.
It was well worth any aches or pains. I am glad that many people got to see her and that showed her that she is still loved and adored by many. As for you Fleet, these past few days are days that have given you a sense of fulfillment that you finally met Ms. deWitt (27 years, damn). I commend you for doing that; also, you truly made her day (well, two days really) more memorable and making it have more significance.
I did not mean to carry on with such a "lecture." I am just too opinionated (which is a double-edged sword, bth good and bad).
If there is anything more you'd like to ask, feel free to do so.
Thanks for asking by the way

Awww I'm so glad she liked everything you brought her! Thank you so much for giving her some threads from this board, I hope she reads everything and sees how much we all miss her, and decides to come back to work! Also, thanks so much for asking her about how she held John's hand, it's cute that they were so close and had similar personalities, just like Jack and Janet :D
David 10-04-2004, 05:28 PM Aww, she looks really good still. :D Glad you got to meet her

Yes, that is the one. She didn't say anything about ESP or psychics or the afterlife, though.
She did say that she felt silly doing that photo where she is jumping off that wooden thing. And, the one where she is laying on the couch, she said her manager or publicity agent made her do that.
Oh, I gave her another copy from one of those papers (I think The Enquirer) showing her "new" hairdo. A color photo. From 1980.
I could probably find more of those papers with articles on her, but it would take weeks to look through them! They're in the garage.

Well, I figured I was right there with her and why not print some Sitcoms Online threads for her to read? Especially since she does not have a computer (hey, maybe I'll buy her one! :D . I'll offer to go to New Mexico and hook it up. ;) )
While I was waiting in line at different times, I noticed she always answered fan's questions. Even about things 25 years ago. She seems to have a pretty sharp memory.

Wow! Driving 110 miles to see Joyce DeWitt! Although, after thinking it over, I probably would have done it, too. And I would drive 90 mph, too, if I knew that Joyce was "waiting" for me! :D
Was the 30 minute standstill in the area of the L.A. Airport? The traffic is usually slow going through that area.
Yes, it was great to finally meet her after all these years. It was one of those things in which you seem to know the person already before meeting him or her. She was at a book signing with Chris Mann, but I didn't know about that until later.
So how long were you able to talk to Joyce? Most people there spent about 5 or so minutes talking to her.

I live in San Diego as well, and I would of gladly drove 110 miles just to meet her. Unfortunatley, I can't drive and I didn't have anyone to give me a ride. I wish I could of gone!

I forgot to post another interesting thing...
While at Sunday's show, after I bought more photos of Joyce for her to sign, talking to her and giving her more articles, I was thinking if I should come back later in the day. Well, she actually said to me, "See you in a little bit?" It sounded like she wanted to know if I was leaving for the day or coming back. So I said "Okay." (Who can say "no" to Joyce DeWitt, right?). So, I left the show to have my roll of film developed and went back to the show at about 2:15 PM and gave her a copy of a pic of her and I. She had a plane to catch and started packing her photos and other items at about 3:15 PM. That is when I finally left (which was very hard to do.)
She is the only celebrity who asked if I would hang around at the show for a while! :D

Yes, I really hope she does come to San Diego. If she doesn't, I will try to give someone a notice WAY in advance so that I will be sure I get to go. I will get to meet her before my life is over! I didn't get to meet John, but will make sure that I will get to meet her!

Fleet 10-04-2004, 10:18 PM I'm remembering more bits and pieces of last weekend's event.

Hi Janet-Wood,
Welcome!
You just reminded me of something else. I told Joyce that I actually saw the first episode the night it was aired. I still had a black-and-white TV, and was flipping through the channels and saw some guy waking up in a bath tub. It looked interesting and kept watching. The rest of that episode, and all the others that followed! She said, "Lucky for us that you found us."
Glad to share stories about Joyce and photos for those who couldn't make it.
Janet-Wood 10-04-2004, 10:48 PM
DuffMann2G 10-04-2004, 11:03 PM I was there long enough to choose the photo and script. I'd
have stayed longer, but I did not want to seem like a pest. Plus I was anxious/nervous; it's not like this sort of thing happened
everyday.
I would have loved to have stayed though. Next time, I'll do
much better. Still, I'm envious of you Fleet (sort of that is). The
traffic happened near Las Pulgas road on the freeway (there was an accident). I should have stayed longer. I would have if I knew
that was going to happen.
Oh yeah, I_LOVE_JOHN_RITTER, I'd have gladly taken you if I knew. You could always try going by train next time. The train
passes the Burbank airport (and stops there somewhere).
I am certain she'll do something like this again, hopefully in the
near future (within a year be nice, but as long as there is a
chance, I'll be happy).
Still, I wished I would have stayed longer. Damn my shy nature!! Oh well, maybe next time.

Aw, thank you. That is very nice of you. Yeah maybe next time I should take a train. All I know is that if there is a next time (hopefully) I will go for sure. Even if I have to walk!
Fleet 10-05-2004, 12:23 AM Well, Duffman... I am usually nervous at first, then it goes away when I realize this is probably the only chance I will be able to meet celebs like Joyce, Dawn Wells, Cindy Williams, etc.
However, with Joyce, after waiting for years to meet her, I was only nervous for about 2 seconds. :D I bet next time you'll do much better because the show will be familiar to you.
Oh, an accident on the freeway. That explains the traffic problem. Usually, the freeways flow well on a Saturday morning.
Yeah, I hope she is at another show soon. But, you'll have to get in line before me! :D Because I'll be there at 6:00 AM waiting to get in.

Fleet 10-05-2004, 01:03 AM Bring a couple of pairs of shoes! And maybe a photo of Joyce.
DuffMann2G 10-05-2004, 01:03 AM The walking would probably take two days, 6 mph x 20hrs = 120.
Sort of like speed walking, not slow walking. You'd get a heat stroke though. Oh well. 6:00 Am hmm, well I'll probably meet you there then. I was going to leave at 4 that morning, but I needed
more rest, not to appear like a zombie or something. I've done overnight sort of things, in the Fall and Winter (for some damn
beanie babies, my mother is a fan, do the math).
I just thought of something, like if Joyce did this again, we could collaborate on getting together, to meet one another and discuss
some ideas to show our appreciation and devoution as fans. Just a thought. Any opinions of such a matter would be nice.

I just thought of something, like if Joyce did this again, we could collaborate on getting together, to meet one another and discuss
some ideas to show our appreciation and devoution as fans. Just a thought. Any opinions of such a matter would be nice.
That would be awesome! We could all get together to meet Joyce! That would be a really fun experience! Great idea, DuffMann2G!!!! I really think we should do this if Joyce were to do this again!

In your calculation, did you allow time for meals, resting periods and sleep? It would be kind of hard to walk 110 miles without stopping!
Okay, we can meet, but I'm first in line. :joke: Yeah, and don't look like a zombie; I don't want to see Joyce running out of the building.
Seriously, it would be a good idea to meet. If we tell her at the same time that we are all members of Sitcoms Online, maybe she'll check out this site (and maybe join it!).

That would rock! http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/15/15_8_200v.gif
Fleet 10-05-2004, 08:09 PM Going by both of your usernames and avatars, I'm not surprised at your comments!
DuffMann2G 10-05-2004, 08:22 PM Well, the walking 120 miles in 20 hours is just the time for walking (and for those who are in good shape, at least with cardio and leg strength). Of course breaks (of all kinds) would be a necessity. Only a machine could do something like that and not be phazed in the least.
Anyway, getting her to join the site would be great, but we (or someone else ) would need to get her a computer (and a nice one at that). Still, not a bad possibility.
However good as that may be, it was not what I had in mind. No, what I had in mind was to do something that would have a profound impact on Ms. DeWitt. You just got to to think, "What would be significantly impressive?" and come up with some ideas.
That is what I meant about "showing our appreciation and devoution as fans." Still, we can do something simple. Let's just speculate about any ideas or thoughts on the matter.
As for who goes first, I personnally believe that Fleet should be the one; afterall, he apparently is by far the one person who has followed this matter thoroughly throughout the years. As I did
say in an earlier post, I am envious, but I do recognize and respect those, whom I feel, deserve it. Well, this is enough for now. Have a good day!
Fleet 10-05-2004, 09:05 PM True, DuffMan, the time required for walking would be for someone in excellent condition. Enough of the walking, though. I really don't think anyone is going to walk 120 miles to see Joyce DeWitt! As you said, going by train would be an excellent way to travel.
Hey, I'm serious about buying her a computer. All she has to do, in return, is go out with me for dinner, or for a long (long) walk on the beach! :D Or, she can move into my neighborhood. Don't worry, Joyce, I'll keep the fans away from your house!
Well, you can go first, because I would do my trick of waiting for the line to disperse and then talk to her some more!

Fleet 10-05-2004, 10:13 PM The chance of Joyce being in New York is quite high, because she has been there before.
I would check the Internet & newspapers to find out if she will be appearing anywhere.
Janet-Wood 10-05-2004, 10:27 PM Thanks for the tip Fleet! Now, I have hope of meeting her!! Woo hoo!! Maybe she'll do a theatre play.

No problem. Just remember to send her my way after the final theatre play. ;)
Fleet 10-06-2004, 12:00 AM Here is something else which Joyce autographed for me.
The cover of a National Enquirer from March 11, 1980. I predicited I would spend about $100 on autographed photos of Joyce. Actually, the total came to about $135. (!) But I'm not complaining. It was well worth it. I don't know for sure, but she probably got more money from me than from anyone else there! I think by now she knows that I am a fan of hers.
You know, after spending so much money on her, I think she should let me take her out for dinner the next time she is in Los Angeles. What do you think, guys/gals? Vote here:
Should Joyce DeWitt allow "Fleet" to take her out for dinner on a night of her choosing?
A. Yes
B. No
DuffMann2G 10-06-2004, 12:05 AM a.) Yes; After the votes, if you could, describe what you might do (this is entirely optional). Be detailed, so it gives all us hopefuls insight and the chance to envision it.
Graci.

WOW! $135, I think she definetly knows you are a fan! Did you have to pay everytime she autogrphed something for you, or did you just pay for the memorabilia you bought? I have been wondering about this.
I vote yes, Joyce Dewitt should allow you to take her out for dinner. You have waited for 27 years to finally meet her and now you have. Personally, I think you deserve it!

Well, it would be kind of simple. Dinner at a cozy restaurant, tucked away in a corner. ;) Then, after that, some slow dancing. Yeah, definitely dancing. (I would be careful not to step on her toes.) Following the dancing, maybe we would go for a drive in my limo and stop at some scenic point, like on a hill where we could see the lights of the valley (this would be at night, btw).
Lastly, I would drive her to wherever she is staying. Probably at the hotel where she would be staying or at the home she owns out here (if she still does). If she invites me in, we would enjoy a cup of tea or something. All of this would certainly be worth $135. :D
Hmm... maybe I should print this thread and mail it to her?

I paid for every autograph except the one I just posted (the Enquirer cover). I was just intending to show her the cover and she asked if I would like her to autograph it. She said it in a way which meant "no charge." So I said "okay, yes." Maybe she thought I should have 7 autographs for the price of 6! You know, a discount.
Thanks for the "yes" vote. Maybe if I get enough positive votes, Joyce will have to accept! :happyface

Np!
Why do the celebrities charge for each autograph? Does the money go to a charity?
Fleet 10-06-2004, 01:05 AM I believe that the money goes to the celebs. I remember reading a review of this show and it said that the more popular celebs can take in a few thousand $ in one weekend. The article did not mention any charities.
Remember, too, that most celebs in '60s and earlier sitcoms, like Dawn Wells, Pat Priest ("Marilyn Munster"), Johnny Crawford, etc. are receiving zero dollars when their shows are aired now.

That is neat that she gave you one extra one;)!!! Acutally we were studying about this kind of equation today in business math!;)!!!
Janet Tripper 10-06-2004, 01:09 AM Oh yea, I totally love the pix!!! Its a very cute picture, Joyce looks so pretty and John so handsome!!:D!!! Congrats Fleet!!:D!!!
DuffMann2G 10-06-2004, 01:15 AM Everyone needs money now and then, so why wouldn't someone charge another person for something that that person wants (i.e. signatures, memorabilia). You just have to take it from their perspective, that's all.
Well even if the money celebrities make do not go to charities, they could always choose to donate money themselves if they want to later on.
It is awful that the stars of early tv sitcoms (namely ones before the 70's) do not get money. One must tread carefully if he is to make something for himself.

The photograph I got ($20) from the convention was just like that (only colored). It is a great photograph; I just love it! I ended up framing it.
Also, I did want to mention this earlier: the picture of John, Joyce and Suzanne that Fleet posted up was great (and quite remarkable). You must have a lot of material from that time, which is sweet! You should put up more when you can.

Yes, that was a good cover photo in the Enquirer. I started saving The Enquirer, Star and Globe (which used to be called "Midnite") in the '70s. My oldest copy is of an Enquirer from Aug., 1975. I have some from that year and 1976 and 1977. Starting about 1978, I started saving almost every issue of Enquirer, and many of the two others. Saved them through the '80s, and up to about 1993 or so. I think the paper changed in the mid-'90s and was not as entertaining. Also, during the '90s, there were very few articles on the shows and celebs I liked reading about (Happy Days, Laverne & Shirely, Three's Company, Starsky & Hutch, Dukes Of Hazzard, and others).
I do plan to look through these old papers again and I'll post any "Three's Company"-related photos and articles.

Another thing I remembered: During one of the times I was waiting for the line to thin out. I was looking through the photos which Joyce had already signed for me, and I hear someone say my name. It was Joyce. She said, "Tony." (Not Fleet.) I looked up and she asked if I would take a photo of a fan who wanted his pic taken with her! So, I guess Joyce asked me for a favor. Now she has to go out with me! ;)

Yeah, I was really surprised when she asked me to do that. Her assistant usually does the picture taking, but he left for a few minutes. It was good timing that I was around when needed!
Fleet 10-06-2004, 10:16 PM How did I forget this picture?
I gave Joyce (yes, yet another thing I gave her) a photo of a part of the production area where I work. So she wouldn't think I was a Joyce DeWitt fanatic (I'm only a semi-fanatic :D ), I explained that I usually only have 2 or 3 pics of her hanging up. I added those others for photography purposes.
This is the actual picture I gave her:
Fleet 10-06-2004, 10:23 PM Okay, another photo. Since I didn't want her to forget me, I gave her this 4x6 photo of me on my limo. This is the limo I would pick her up in for dinner. ;)
Anyway, I'm glad this limo has a white top (white is her favorite color). Can't you just see Joyce stepping inside? :)
BTW, she was real impressed with this car. I also gave her two pics of my recently-bought '69 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham, but she seemed to like the limo better.
M4cong 10-06-2004, 10:28 PM Definitely YES for a dinner date with Joyce. no question about it. You totally deserve it, Tony. I am just so so so happy for you that you were able to hug her twice and talk with her, and also get all those nice articles and photos autographed. This is something that you will never forget.
Have fun on your dinner date.....and I want details and pictures afterwards!!! ;)
Fleet 10-06-2004, 11:00 PM All right! That makes 6 "yes" votes. Are you listening, Joyce?
Okay, after the dinner date, I'll give you all of the details... wait a minute... it hasn't happened yet!
DuffMann2G 10-06-2004, 11:01 PM You're quite the ladie's man, aren't ya. Just kidding. The limo is nice, and has a sense of "class" added on, which is always a plus.
Oh yeah, nice collection of the photos in your production area. Well, it seems that you've been nominated by many for the "Date with Ms. DeWitt." If it goes through (it should) you be a man among legends, of sorts. Well, just wished to comment on that, and I'm looking forward to whatever else may come this way.
Fleet 10-06-2004, 11:30 PM "A man among legends."
Maybe she will think it over if it means a ride around town in a limo. (Not a stretch, but still a real limo.)
Thanks for the comments, and if anything else comes this way, I'll post it here! :)

1) $15.00/day or $25.00 for two days. I choose the two-day price.
2) $20.00 for each autograph.
3) Yes, she did have a little talk with each person. I would say right around 5 minutes for each.
4) I don't think she does a lot of these signings. But if she enjoyed this last one (and I think she did), maybe she'll do more!
Yes, I did spend around $135. I kind of lost count because I asked for so many autographs! 3 or 4 autographs the first day (at two different times), and another 3 or 4 the second day.

Now, for something I have been wondering about. To those of you who have written to Joyce and received something back... do you include a SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope)? What size envelope? I've heard that is the usual policy when writing to a celeb.
Thanks for any help.

Yes, I have written to Joyce and I recieved an autographed picture. I sent her the lettter in a regular sized envelope, and it was self addressed, so that she would know where to send me her autograph.

Yeah, I do. I send a 9x12 manila SASE w/ my letters - I fold them into thirds so it fits in a white number 10 envelope. :)
Fleet 10-07-2004, 10:10 PM Thanks, both of you, for you answers. I do plan to write to Joyce in a few weeks. I want to send her a photo of when we posed together the on the second day of the show (she already has the first-day photo).
Austin Tripper 10-08-2004, 01:39 AM Hey thanks for the extra info Fleet:cool:
Fleet 10-08-2004, 08:28 PM Here is another nice photo which Joyce autographed for me. Note the word "darling!" :) :happyface
DuffMann2G 10-08-2004, 08:40 PM Photo after photo. I'm still impressed, and you even got the word "Darling" put before your name. A nice picture it is, (shame I did not get one with such a message). Woe is me, for alas I shall never be like ye.
Still, it is excellent. Oh yeah, good luck with the letter. I'm sure she'll enjoy. Don't forget to include a message from her loyal fans!
Until next time...
Fleet 10-08-2004, 08:45 PM DuffMan, what did she write on your photo(s)? I'm curious.
Don't worry; I'll mention her many fans when I write her a letter.
DuffMann2G 10-08-2004, 09:02 PM Well, for the photo, she had written:
"For Michael, with love and kisses *heart* Joyce DeWitt"
It is a nice message on the photo. And the other one (the script) read:
"Michael- Hope you'll enjoy the 'read'! much love to you *heart* Joyce DeWitt"
I really enjoyed getting this (it is an interesting and enjoyable read). I ended putting that up in a box case (I can still take it out to read).
However nice and joyous they may be, yours' far exceeds my own, but I am still grateful to have to obtained them.
I was intending to write a letter too. I'm certain I know of the address (it is on an awesome JDW website). It's the J/G Business Management in Santa Monica (for those of you who did not know). If you (or anyone else) has a different address, let me know.
I had sent a letter at the end of August. I just sent it to go there, not to come back, so if you thought I had another autograph, then no. Honestly, I actually had drawn a picture on one side of the letter, to make it more "distinct". I try to be one in a million, if even in a small way. I hope it did make it to her.
So good luck with yours.
Fleet 10-08-2004, 09:11 PM Here is yet another photo.
I believe this was the only one with the cast; the rest of the photos were of Joyce only (which is okay with me!).
Laike 10-08-2004, 09:12 PM Good thread going here. Thanks for the information.
I'd be too nervous to meet her. I can't do it. She seems like a great person, though. Just as I expected.

Well, for the photo, she had written:
"For Michael, with love and kisses *heart* Joyce DeWitt"
It is a nice message on the photo. And the other one (the script) read:
"Michael- Hope you'll enjoy the 'read'! much love to you *heart* Joyce DeWitt"
However nice and joyous they may be, yours' far exceeds my own, but I am still grateful to have to obtained them.

Yours are nice, too. Besides, until Joyce lets me take her out :D we are still on an even playing field.
Yes, the Santa Monica address is the one to use. I made it a point of asking her. In fact, I'll scan her actual writing on the paper I showed her. Yes, it is a good idea to make a letter "stand out." Hopefully, you'll receive a response. If not, you can always try again. But wait a few months- don't send one right after another.
Fleet 10-08-2004, 09:31 PM Here it is.
I showed Joyce this piece of paper with one address on each side and asked her which one is the best one to use to write to her.
She took her felt pen and wrote the correct one below mine. That is her actual writing. :)

Don't forget... more pics are on the way because I still have my 2nd roll of film to develop. In the second roll of film, she is wearing a blue top instead of the red one she wore on Saturday. She looks great in both, though!
I bet that if you saw her at an autograph table, especially with no one in line, your nervousness would disappear fast!
M4cong 10-09-2004, 02:05 AM what was she wearing with her shirts??? black pants???
i like details, if you cant tell already!!!!! :D
AND omg...if I saw her sitting there at that table, my heart would be racing. It is my ultimate dream and desire to be able to meet her someday and just sit and talk with her. I would love for her to know how much I admire her. PLUS> She is so interesting and her life is full of expereinces that I would love to learn about. All of her journeys, her family, her acting, her spirituality. I dont know, but to me, she is almost mysterious. but in a good way!!!!
DuffMann2G 10-09-2004, 02:17 AM Well, I can describe the Sunday outfit. The pants were black and appeared to be somewhat formal. She did have on a blue shirt, which coul have been silk, or looked like it. If you did not read
earlier, I happened to be there before she arrived. She came in with that outfit, plus dark sunglasses (both frame and lenses were black).
She was carrying a purse with her, but I was not concerned about that. Well, try reading some of the other posts in this thread, to give you an idea of what had transpired. Also, I know what you mean by heart racing. Well, you should try to do this ASAP, because afterall, she will do this again. When and how many more times, is anyone's guess. Well, I'll leave the rest for you to figure out.

I love the fact that we can write to her at a Santa Monica address. :D Thanks for posting the address so that we can write to her.
Fleet 10-09-2004, 06:27 PM I just got my second set of photos back, and they came out very nice.
First is this shot of the autograph table. That is Joyce with her agent/manager (I think). You can see most of the photos available for signing. Also, under Joyce's left hand you can see the folder I gave her which contains the Sitcoms Online threads!
More pics coming up!
Fleet 10-09-2004, 06:40 PM Another photo of Joyce and I. :)
I will definitely mail this one to her.
Janet-Wood 10-09-2004, 06:49 PM The pictures are fantastic! The picture of Fleet and Joyce is so cute!

Yes, I know. I do consider myself lucky.
DuffMann2G 10-09-2004, 07:40 PM I noticed the picture with Joyce and her agent/manager. I could have sworn the person there that day did not have a moustache. I'm certain that was not the guy I had talked to on Sunday. I must be hallucinating. Then again, maybe she just has a few more people who work for her. It goes to show that she is set on making a comeback! Well, hopefully anyways.
I'll have to find out next time. And trust me, I'll be there; bright and early if need be. (No zombie renditions though).
Fleet 10-09-2004, 08:52 PM I'm not sure, but I think he was the only one assisting Joyce (except for the woman who was there, too).
Okay, you can be there bright and early next time, but I better not see you winking (like this... ;) ...) at Joyce!
Fleet 10-09-2004, 09:54 PM Incidentally, on the back of the photo I gave Joyce (the one of my limo, which I posted on this thread), I put my address on the back of it! :D One of those peel-off address labels. So, if she shows up on my front porch, nobody here should be surprised. ;)
Janet Tripper 10-09-2004, 10:13 PM Thanks Fleet!!! You are so cool!! and so nice thanks for sharing all these great things w/us!!! Hopefully that means she read all the print outs you gave her sinec she kept them close by;)!!! Thanks again!!!
Fleet 10-09-2004, 10:23 PM Hi Janet Tripper,
Yes, I hope she reads those threads, too! She should because she's probably curious as to people's comments about her!
When I briefly showed her a few threads, she looked interested.
Okay, another photo. This one of just Joyce. A lovely pose.
DuffMann2G 10-09-2004, 10:31 PM You clever dog you. Hehe... Just kidding. Not a bad move, putting the address on the photograph. She might actually follow-up.
As for the winking, you won't see me do it. Afterall, I'm just too good to be caught, oh yeah. :)
By the way, that is a great photograph. She looked great that day (and she still looks even fabulous days when her fans do not see her. She still has a knack for such things. Quite impressive.
She'll also be inclined to check this site out, and might even come across this thread. Not to cut this short, but I'll leave the rest for you to figure out.

;) Yeah, Joyce better be careful with me... I can be tricky!
Good to hear you won't be winking at Joyce... leave that to me!
I agree... that photo came out real well. A great pose.
Remember, she said she doesn't have a computer. She would have to use a friend's or maybe a library computer. But, you're right, it would be nice if she did check out this site. She would like it!
Janet-Wood 10-10-2004, 12:01 AM PS Just to add something else since Juliet Mills is in the same pic...
Juliet Mills is so nice! Met her once in NY. Lovely woman. I remember some reruns of Nanny and the Professor in the early 70s. Great show. Too bad it didn't go beyond one year because the Professor died in real life.
PPS Joyce DeWitt looks great!!!

I was wondering who that is behind Joyce. That's for solving the mystery. When I took the photo of Joyce, I didn't even notice that someone was behind her. I wonder why? ;)
With all due respect, appearance-speaking, Juliet is no match for Joyce!

Yes, I sure hope she reads the threads I gave her. I'm pretty sure she has for two reasons...
1. Just plain curiosity.

Hey, I would cook for her anywhere. Even under an overpass or in a back alley. Even on the moon.
Yes, she probably would like my house. Nice view of the mountains out of the back windows and 5 Cadillacs parked out in front. I would take out my "Three's Company" tapes and my old Enquirers. We could look through those. After that, we would think of something else to do. :)
Janet Tripper 10-10-2004, 11:08 PM Yup I think she must have read them too! Even if it was just for curiosity, I know I would like to know what people are saying about me. Also b/c I just think she would...like she just seems like she is intrested in her fans and that would make her read them. Just like her fan mail I think she must read most of that too!

Fleet 10-10-2004, 11:28 PM Here is something interesting I haven't posted...
I have on tape an interview of Joyce on "The O'Reilly Factor."
Was recorded back in July, 1998. I think Bill (O'Reilly) had her on for two reasons... the cable station TBS was airing "Three's Company" re-runs at the time, and Chris Mann's book was just out.
It was not a long interview, about 7 and 1/2 minutes, but still worth keeping. There were basically two subjects covered. Suzanne's leaving the show, and Joyce's post-3's Company life.
Here are some brief quotes:
O'Reilly- "Did she (Suzanne) get a little taken with the stardom in your estimation?"
Joyce- "Yes."
O'Reilly- "Everybody says your a nice person [Joyce giggles]. I'm not just saying that because you're on the show [Joyce giggles again]. Everyone who watches this show knows we separate the good from the bad quickly here."
O'Reilly- "Would you want to do another sitcom? And do that thing again?"
Joyce- "Going back into a series would be marvelous, it would have to be the right series. As you mentioned earlier, there's not a lot on TV today that I would race up to do. At the same time, the idea of doing another project where I'm invovled with the American audience every week is very appealing."
O'Reilly- (On "Three's Company")... "And we're glad you're still getting checks from it."
Joyce- (*Laughs*)
Joyce mentioned that the show is aired in 34 countries.
MoonFlower 10-11-2004, 08:08 AM ...and 5 Cadillacs parked out in front.
Fleet ur the man. :D
O'Reilly- (On "Three's Company")... "And we're glad you're still getting checks from it."
yes, we are glad she's still getting checks fot that, she makes me laugh more then a lot of new shows out there. ;)
Fleet 10-11-2004, 09:20 PM Okay, here is a good reason Joyce should go out with me (:D )... in one of those tabloid magazines, I read that during the run of "Three's Company," sometimes Joyce went out on dates with people (men) provided by the studio (I guess Paramount Pictures). So, if she went out with guys she probably didn't even know, she should go out with me because she knows me (now).
Sounds logical to me. Besides, with S.O. member "Unwanted Angel" (Dorothy) banned, I have less competition.
I have decided where to take Joyce for dinner, if she leaves the decision to me. "The Olive Garden." For those who don't know, it's an Italian Restaurant. There is one about 3 miles from where I live. Second choice would be the hamburger place "Fuddruckers" because she likes cheeseburgers. There is one of those places in Burbank.
Any suggestions are welcome. :)
DuffMann2G 10-11-2004, 10:21 PM "Olive Garden" -Italian food is always good (remember, who is half italian).
"Fuddruckers" -Not a bad place either, especially since she does like cheeseburgers.
Now, would you consider fancier places, such as the Chart House? It is fairly expensive, but it is also nice (the one down in San Diego is superb). I would recommend checking the site:
http://www.chart-house.com from there you can decide if it is close or not (usually, it is close to the beach)and anything else about the place from there. It's a nice place, but I would recommend a reservation if you plan to go.
The food portions are not small, but are not "super-sized." I'd take a woman that I was interested in to that place. It may be a bit much, but a woman of maturity (you know at least one) would not have a problem with such a thing.
I would also recommend a place that plays music. Nice sounds and the comfort of good food is always a plus, especially among the ladies. I am certain you know of such, but still, it is best to reitterate the obvious. Just another place that might be good to look into.
Try looking through any Dining Magazines, or through the internet and look up your area and the dining locations around you, or wherever you choose. It is your choice overall, so you just have to decide the obvious question here...

Joyce- (*Laughs*)
Joyce mentioned that the show is aired in 34 countries.
OMG I love the O'Reilly Factor. I watch it everynight. That is such awesome information. I never knew that. I wonder if she is still a fan??? That would be awesome if she is.
Thanks for all the cool pics of joyce at the show...and also all the info. on her. You are amazing. Gosh.....wouldn't be so much fun if we could get all the JDW fans on this msb together with joyce for a fun evening out somewhere?;)
Fleet 10-11-2004, 10:39 PM Sure, I would consider the Chart House, or a similar fancy place. With Joyce, money is no object (that's something Mr. Roper would definitely NOT say!).
Good idea, music would be nice, too. It would give me an excuse to dance with her.
BTW, what is the "obvious question?"

Actually, I didn't know she was going to be on his show. My mom was watching it and during the commercials, she told me someone from one of those shows I watch would be on O'Reilly. She knew that I was a regular viewer of "Happy Days," "Laverne & Shirley," "Three's Company, " "Taxi," and other shows like those. I, of course, put a blank tape in my VCR right away and was able to start taping just as Joyce came on the show! She was not an in-person guest; probably via satellite.
Let me say that I'm really glad that Sitcoms Online exists and I can post all of this info. It's much more fun to have a place where I can tell people my meeting of Joyce!
Yes, it would be nice to have a fan/Joyce gathering, but with us living all over the country, it would be hard to all meet. I'll just have to meet with her and represent eveyone! ;)
BTW, if she (Joyce) shows up at this autograph show again, this time I won't let her slip away... I won't leave her autograph table until she says she'll let me take her out to dinner! :D Or, at my house and I'll cook something for her. ;)
M4cong 10-11-2004, 11:00 PM Okay gotta another question for any of you that met her.
What did she smell like?? Did she have perfume on??? I know this is a weird question...but I am just curious!!! I am so silly. lol.:D But I just love all the details.

What?!?
I really didn't notice perfume. But (even when we hugged) I wasn't really THAT close to her. :(
I would say it's safe to say that she smells like a girl (or a woman... whatever). :D
If I see her again, I'll ask what kind of perfume she uses, okay?

Being a woman, well only a 24 year old woman, I would love for a man to cook me dinner. I think if you had a wonderful setting outside, that dinner outside would be awesome. Especially if you can have a view of the mountains...and if the weather is pleasant, of course. Maybe cook out on the grill some shrimp coctail...and then make a wonderful dish. ( I think I read somewhere that she likes seafood.) Have some nice wine and music playing. AND maybe if you have one of those outside fire places for a cool evening...would add to the atmosphere. Be sure to make some delicious dessert. That would make for a lovely 1st half of the evening. Then maybe a drive in one of your cadillacs or a nice walk after dinner. Then you could come back to the place and play a board game for two.....or go through all the Threes company stuff....or just talk. BUT-----as for me, I like a man that takes control and has the whole evening planned. SO---just a suggestion. ;)

Awww... sorry I met her first. But remember, I've been waiting 27 years (and 7 months) to meet her.
I don't think she was going heavy on the perfume or I would have noticed. However, I may have just been to excited to notice.
When I was going through the posts and deciding which ones to print, I don't think I saw your username on them. So you probably don't have to worry.
I agree... she still is beautiful. :)

You're right, money is no object. Afterall, she's made more than most can in a relatively short amount of time. That's aside from the point.
I was reading the posts and another thought came across my mind. Well, the restaurant with music would be nice, and it would give a sense of security; whereas a homecooked meal at your fine estatblishment (a.k.a. home), with some nice music (I recommend getting a small entourage of musicians, but a CD player will do) will create a pleasant, and interesting atmosphere.
However, I still recommend the restaurant choice. It will give her a sense of security (afterall, she is a celebrity, and as we have seen, some people go a little too far when it comes to celebrities). Now do not get me wrong, the homecook meal is by far a very sweet and considerate gesture, but as a "first date" it would not be the best choice to be made. It may be a bit ackward for her. I do not mean that you are untrustworthy person (I am certain that you are a respected individual in today's society that is reverred as an honorable and dignified man), but most people are quite cautious about such things. You could always try this a little while later (on a third date would be ideal), when the bonding of trust is defined.
I could be wrong. It's just my opinion. Still, if you wish to do so, do so. Don't let me stand in your way. The choice (as stated previously) is yours.
I'll still support you in your decision and back you up (afterall, I was the first one to vote "Yes"). Good luck!

Well, your other post got me wondering if it was you!
Uh-oh... I better be careful. The competition is back!
Uh-oh, again... I remember now- I gave Joyce two threads in which we were fighting over her! One was the "Janet" thread from June, 2003 and the other was the "Sexy Joyce DeWitt Picture" thread from Nov, 2003. I wouldn't be too concerned, though. After all, she was on a TV show in which the lead male character pretending he was gay, so she's probably used to that stuff.

I think you're right... a public place would be better. I don't want to scare her away! But I won't have to worry about that unless she accepts in the first place!
Since you were the first to vote "Yes," I'll be sure to mention you, okay?

You know, now that I think about it, I should have taken more pics of Joyce! I could have given (yet another) $20.00 to her assistant and ask Joyce to pose for me in various ways- like on the table, or walking toward me, or holding my hand! :)

I went to the collectors show as well. I didn't talk to Joyce this time though. I did see her in '98 at the same collectors show when they had a Three's Company reunion. The only ones from the cast that didn't show up were 'Jack', 'Cindy', and 'Crissy'. Everyone else was there, including Norman Fell. It was so cool

Blair85 11-18-2004, 09:29 PM Wow, that's really cool that you got to meet her. She's a cute lady. I wouldn't mind meeting her! I never get to meet celebrities where I live. My history teacher in junior high had a signed picture of her for his West Virginia "wall of fame," but he didn't meet her. I'm glad you got to go see her, Fleet. Next time you go, you can take me. :p
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 11-20-2004, 10:02 PM Wow, I don't post at this board enough an miss out on stuff. Congrats, she seems like an awesome person and really pretty
