Bart's new home is in the streets of L.A. He has found a sidekick to whom he can be a mentor to - Derek Blith. Together, the two get into wacky mishaps and adventures just to stay alive. It's explained that Bobby Wheeler and his wife Carrie have moved away. Wayne and Suzie were the married couple who owned the Deli in which Bart and Blith often visited. The Patchett's always welcomed the homeless duo.

The ratings for the program were not great in the beginning. However, NBC believed in this show and renewed it for the 1986-87 season.

Both Phil Hartman and Jan Hooks left the show in favor of "Saturday Night Live."
