The last natural blondes will die out within 200 years, scientists believe.
A study by experts in Germany suggests people with blonde hair are an endangered species and will become extinct by 2202.

Researchers predict the last truly natural blonde will be born in Finland - the country with the highest proportion of blondes.

But they say too few people now carry the gene for blondes to last beyond the next two centuries.

The problem is that blonde hair is caused by a recessive gene.

In order for a child to have blonde hair, it must have the gene on both sides of the family in the grandparents' generation.

Dyed rivals

The researchers also believe that so-called bottle blondes may be to blame for the demise of their natural rivals.

They suggest that dyed-blondes are more attractive to men who choose them as partners over true blondes.

But Jonathan Rees, professor of dermatology at the University of Edinburgh said it was unlikely blondes would die out completely.

"Genes don't die out unless there is a disadvantage of having that gene or by chance. They don't disappear," he told BBC News Online.

"The only reason blondes would disappear is if having the gene was a disadvantage and I do not think that is the case.

"The frequency of blondes may drop but they won't disappear."

I read an article like that- only they said redheads may also die out (and they used Nicole Kidman as an example- no more Nicole Kidman style redheads!).

It would be kind of funny in a satirical way. Imagine, in 200 years if this all happens- on tv (or whatever they have by then) there might be a documentary- 'Walking with Blondes'- using old footage of natural blondes to digitally recreate them to study! To think- in 200 years Jessica Simpson may be studied by science!

if anything, right now it's better to be a brunette than a blonde. Look at all the famous blonde celebrities who've gone brunette because they don't want to be associated as having the same haircolor as Jessica Simpson and Paris Hilton? Their own sisters have dyed their hair black so people won't associate that they are ditzes like their sisters.

Because light reflects off blonde hair much more than dark hair, thereby making blondes more noticeable. Then guys make the assumption that all that glimmers is gold.

One of the Olsens also did that. But I think they do it not because they don't want to be seen as ditzes but because they want some independence from their sisters in the media. The less popular one wants to climb out of the shadow of her sister. (The Olsens may be the exception to this one because, well, I can't tell them apart either way.) So if it's not hair, it's a different style of dress, different style of music - anything to set them apart and get them more attention.

If anything I would want to be a redhead. But I would never dye my hair. :D
