I think my favorite thing(s) about Good Times, are the clothes that both Willona and Thelma wore...Some of Willona's threads, I wanted to add to my own wardrobe; she had great style in both her attire and in her selection of wigs.... Brian Damage 09-30-2004, 11:12 PM The stories....sure it had a ton of laughs, but they sure could write a good story as well. GARFIELDKOOL 10-01-2004, 11:01 AM Thelma, Willona, the social awareness, two strong parents, and the reality. knl9674 10-01-2004, 12:07 PM the image and concept of the show. they are a poor black family, living against all odds in the ghetto, but still have pride, dignity, self respect, morals, values and the strength/will to survive in spite of everything. shows that you do not have to live your life..based on where you come from. Moonlight Lady 10-03-2004, 04:55 PM The reaction from the audience, especially during the dramatic scenes The episodes where they'd perform, like Rent Party and the episode where they perform for the taxi company at Christmas. Willona James and Florida nerrad 10-05-2004, 09:08 AM The family closeness. James yelled at JJ the most, but he loved him. mamadynomite 12-05-2004, 03:17 AM I think my favorite parts of good times is how James and Florida tried their best to teach the kids values. and of course JJ! robby76 12-05-2004, 05:01 AM It epitomises the 70's for me and it takes me back to nostalgia central! I love the whole family unit... especially Esther Rolle and yes JJ for his constant amusement! jamesanthony 12-05-2004, 06:12 PM The actors did a good job of portraying a family that despite being lower income had a sense of humor, love and a lot of dignity and values. Even after James died these elements were still there, and you know even in year 5 which to me is by far this show's rock bottom moment, there was still a measure of that there. I think this was a very original series. Having said that I think that remaking this as a feature film is a ******** idea. Hollywood needs to leave well enough alone and come up with some original ideas. There is no way that they can do anything but make a mockery of the original. knl9674 12-08-2004, 10:39 AM jamesanthony, i have to agree with you. i think the whole idea of a remake is VERY ********. this is a classic show that should be left alone and not be marred by hollywood's grubby, greedy and unoriginal hands. they are going to make a mockery of very socially conscious and important show of its time....i can see it now: the cast will be all of hollywood's "in" black talent, which 80% are talentless. the audience and true fans will not even be able to enjoy the show but will spend more time comparing the new actors with the original actors. it will be low budget. hollywood's attempt at making them "look poor" will fall flat and look overdone. the dialogue will be a true issues - will they use "jive turkey" and other common lingo of the times. what made me think this was a VERY bad idea? i saw the trailer for the Fat Albert movie. it actually made me cringe. |
