Hey y'all,
I just saw an episode of A&E's Cold Case Files that profiled yet another Unsolved Mysteries case. It's the one about the arsonist who filmed one of his housefires and gave a really disturbing narration. Video was found on the side of the road, and investigators were able to match it to a house in San Mateo County, California. Unsolved Mysteries was able to break the case, but I guess i didn't remember them updating it.

The arsonist was a juvenile (at the time of the arson), so they did not identify him. However, CCF showed other videos he had made of himself dressed up in various monster-like outfits and pretending to murder people. They also found evidence of animal sacrifices in his home. This guy was really disturbed! The arsonist pled guilty to one fire (there were 11 total - no one was hurt), and his punishment was minimal. The investigators' main concern was getting him psychiatric help. They didn't say where the arsonist is today.

Did any of the other documentaries on the case mention who "Omar" was?

this might be far fetched but in his 'monologue' he says something like 'ancient spirits of evil'. due to the time period this took place im williing to bet that the arsonist was a fan of the cartoon Thundercats because every time Mumra transformed the first thing he says is 'ancient spirits of evil...'. just a thought.

Do you remember the date for this episode of Cold Case Files or the title, if there is one?

I want to see it and would like to the check TV listings for a future broadcast.

Thanks,
The Cber

No, they didn't name names or show faces since the guy was a juvenile at the time.

Yeah, that clears it up. After the kid was caught, I figured "Omar" was probably a school chum who either put him up to it, or challenged the arsonist by saying something along the lines of you won't do it blah blah blah....

On a different note, does anyone know where I could get a copy of the unedited
arsonist footage? I wonder if that would even be possible.

The "funny" thing to me was how this moron was trying to do a Dr. Evil laugh but trying to be quiet at the same time. It was a muffled "Mwah-hah-hah... Ahh-hah-hahh..." but his low voice made it sound weird and even more creepy.

I've always wondered why this guy was dumb enough to lose the tape in the first place. Also, what else was found with it? If I remember, it was a green military jacket and a crucible or something weird like that.

Did anyone else ever notice that the tape was found exactly one year after the fire?

They also found an Areosmith casette with the tape. It was just really strange...oh Omar!!!

By the way, what was the name of the Cold Case Files episode? I would like to try and catch it.

I found this page, just an old newspaper article regarding the arsonist.

I was just reading an article from someone who claimed to have done some research on this case. They said "Omar" was the name of a friend of the arsonist who was in no way involved in the crime.

I saw that a couple of times and I get creeped out each time. It's pretty scary that some people get their kicks out of such evil.
