Have you guys ever noticed how the writers make fun of skinny, frail women (aka Maris)...yet always cast that type of woman as the lead? Think Daphne and Diane.

Similarly, they love making fun of disagreeable women (aka Lilith), but at the same time seem to love them.

I also think they have a thing for flat-chested women. With the exception of Rebecca, they all had flat chests.

I think it came down more to talent that looks.
Although Lilith just wouldnt be Lilith if she didnt look like Bebe Neuwirth.

I would just say "word" but I try to carry a decorum of intelligence.

At any rate, Carla made alot of jokes about Dianes cupsize, but Rhea Pearlman isnt exactly sporting D's, I really did always wonder about that.

Carla did have so many great jokes though

But Maris and Daphne both were fat at one time in the later episodes.

In season 7, Maris gained a lot of weight because Niles was dating her plastic surgeon, Mel (causing her to benge]... [Quote from, "To Thine Old Self Be True"]

Martin: My God, have you seen Maris?
Frasier: Yes, Dad, I know. Did Niles calm her down?
Martin: Yeah, he took her to your room but he had to butter her up a little.
Frasier: I was afraid that narrow doorway might pose a problem.

In season 8 & 9, Daphne was the one gaining the weight because of her self-consciousness towards Niles fantasies about her for so many years.

Well, they are - but the creators still make fun of that body type. That contradiction is what I'm interested in discussing.

And Maris happens to be the hottest one in the bunch ;).

I wonder if Maris was better looking than Mel at one time...perhaps Mel knew about Niles all along and had this secret thing for him, so she purposely made Maris has mutated as possible so that Niles would eventually find her so unattractive that... Nah!
