View Full Version : Different houses
victorrey 09-23-2004, 12:17 AM I'm just wondering if they ever really mention that in the first two seasons the Cunningham's are in a completely different house then the one they finish the series in. I have read about what happend with Chuck, and what happend with Fonzie's windbreaker, but nobody really questions about the change of the house. Is it possible I missed something in one of the shows?
robyrob 09-23-2004, 07:16 AM nope, you didnt miss anything - the house was just miraculously different one day, with the characters neither admitting or realizing that there had been any change at all.
the layout of the whole house makes no sense anyways...
victorrey 09-23-2004, 06:07 PM This is very true.
I always thought with the way the stairs went the house should have looked much bigger on the outside.
wayne 09-29-2004, 12:50 AM The Cunninghams must have moved between the 2nd & 3rd seansons & didn't tell anybody, because it sure looks different. There was a porch in the 1st 2 seasons, but it disappeared. Also the dining room was gone. The address was different. I think one was at 555 but I don't know the street name, the 2nd was 129 Ridge Street
victorrey 09-29-2004, 04:03 PM Thats it they moved and didn't want to anounce it to anyone for fear of Chuck finding out.
hehe
Corleone23 09-29-2004, 10:41 PM I don't think they moved. I think the explanation has to be that the first two season was just a different angle or room.
anglemark10 09-30-2004, 09:15 AM They had to change the layout of the house and of Arnold's to accomodate the studio audience beginning with the third season. They, basically, had to squeeze everything together to make it more central so that the audience could see as much as possible. The change was never acknowledged on the show.
victorrey 09-30-2004, 10:04 PM I had never really thought about the fact that Arnolds changed some the same time the house did. Thanks for the info.

 Can't forget about that ball.
rich2 10-08-2004, 01:51 PM I really liked the first house, but hated the 2nd one because it just never made sense.
There was actually an early live-audience episode that was filmed in the old layout of the house. The episode where Fonzie's girlfriend who he wants to marry turns out to be a stripper.
So why couldn't they have kept filming the house that way?
The main difference with the new Arnold's was that they closed off the right entryway into the main room, so that you had to go around the little wall to go out that way. But they still sometimes used that exit in some later episodes.
They also closed the hallway to the restrooms and put a divider between them, like in a normal restaurant, so that the outer door of the Men's room opened to another door on the left (which you never saw except from the inside).
victorrey 10-08-2004, 04:25 PM you know I had never noticed that it was that many changes to Arnolds, but now that you mention them I can totally see them. I just don't understand why they don't mention something about it. Like we are just supose to forget what it looked like before. I mean most of the time they just change one of the cast without saying anything but I don't think there are that many sitcoms that change the layout without saying anything. For that matter I can only think of one other and that would be The Odd Couple. Can anyone think of any others?
rich2 10-08-2004, 07:16 PM Laverne and Shirley had a lot of changes, but they were part of the story.
I didn't like L&S changes either...
1. I liked the old pizza parlor better than the new fried chicken place her dad owned.
2. I liked the old underground apartment better than the California place.
victorrey 10-09-2004, 01:24 AM yeah I didn't like the california setting they had either. but at least they gave a storyline for that change. I mean it didn't just come out of no where and look different.
Was it fried chicken or burgers? For some reason I keep thinking of burgers for that place.

Burgers would have been okay. Kind of like Arnold's.
Actually, I didn't watch the show all that much but it seemed like the new restaurant was southern style food. Western/cowboy atmosphere.
victorrey 10-09-2004, 04:27 PM I know one of the things they had was ribs because of the episode where Shirley gets kidnapped by the bank robber and she orders ribs with EXTRA BBQ sauce. eh who knows. They sold food that is the thing, and it was never as nice as the pizza bowl.
