scenes in a sitcom episode whether it's on cable, VHS, or DVD? I talked to some people who feel it's not that big of a deal that seconds or minutes are cut from a episode. I personally want to see every single second of a episode. I want the FULL LENGTH!!!!

I'm with you on this one.

For example, I watched "NewsRadio" in it's original run. When it came to A&E, I couldn't watch the first season because it was so cut up. I can't watch it, knowing those other scenes are gone. All the scenes are in there for a reason and shouldn't be cut out for more commercials. Screw commercials. That's why I've taken to the DVD season sets, no commercials and uncut (for the most part) episodes. I am furious about the edited episodes on DVDs. When I put my money into it, I want full episodes. It's ridiculous to have anything less.

I agree with you Solomon, although it wouldn't completely prevent me from buying a DVD.

It doesn't bother me if I am watching it on TV, but it would bug me if it was on a DVD. I know that stations show more commercials now, so I expect some editing while I'm watching a rerun, it sucks but I understand. However there is no reason why episodes should be edited on a DVD.

I agree, i need someone to give me an intelligent answer as to why episodes would ever be edited on a DVD. So far edited eps have been discovered on

Good Times-season 3
Sanford and Son-season 2

Unfortunately, sometimes production companies lose and/or destroy full-length masters, and syndication edits are are they have.

The best example of my stance on cut eps can be shown with ALF. I've been an ALF fan longer than I've been a fan of almost ANYTHING else...If there's cut episodes on TV, fine. But, with DVDs, I'm paying a rather nice sum of money to have copies of those episodes, I want them complete. ALF had syndication cuts (IE: Sans 2 minutes) on all the Season 1 episodes. Wouldn't buy the set, despite it being one of the few shows I said I'd buy no matter the price. But, the syndication cuts turned me off to the point of no-sale

I agree.

I agree to a point; but it would not prevent me from purchasing a DVD of my favorite show, that I have not seen in a while, and this particular show is rarely seen in sydnication; but I would understand why people would be upset, because DVDs can be very expensive...

I never have understood why networks need to show more commercials nowadays than they did say ten years ago :confused:

The FCC is more lenient on them than they used to be. They used to only allow broadcast networks up to five minutes of commercials per half hour. Now it's eight.

If it's on TV, I don't mind so much. This is probably because I still live at home and don't pay for the cable. However, if it is a DVD or something that I pay my own money for, THAT is when I get bothered by it.

I would expect something to be cut for syndication, but I would expect a DVD to present an entire episode. To put an edited episode on DVD is just lame. I would like a DVD that includes commercials or promos of the era of the show.

A good example is "M+A+S+H." For example, in "The General Flipped at Dawn, " Hallmark Channel cut off the tag in which Henry, Hawkeye and Trapper John hear about General ssteele's promotion and flip out themselves by doing the "Mississippi Mud" routine.

Doesn't Hallmark almost always cut off M*A*S*H tags? I'm at the point where I'll only watch M*A*S*H on DVD, so I can view the episodes the way I like them - uncut and without the laugh track.
