well.. I just did my top 200 artists last week, so I'll just cut out the top 40 women, lol.

I kept some female-fronted bands like Heart and Joan Jett And The Blackhearts that were driven by the females, but not ones like The Eurythmics or Pretenders where a female sang lead, but the male members were just as important.

(40) 91. Bananarama
(39) 90. Dannii Minogue
(38) 87. Expose
(37) 84. Destiny's Child
(36) 83. Sheryl Crow
(35) 81. Shannon
(34) 80. Aaliyah
(33) 79. Melissa Etheridge
(32) 71. Paula Abdul
(31) 67. Belinda Carlisle
(30) 66. Celine Dion
(29) 60. Gloria Estefan
(28) 59. Jody Watley
(27) 57. Whitney Houston
(26) 52. Jewel
(25) 51. Dolly Parton
(24) 50. Alanis Morissette
(23) 48. Joan Jett & The Blackhearts
(22) 45. Kim Carnes
(21) 42. Sheena Easton
(20) 40. Sinead O'Connor
(19) 38. Stevie Nicks
(18) 37. Bangles

Well, I really don't agree with Cher being #1, but other than that, you have a pretty good list. You too, BuffySlayer.

I think Sade is awesome, BTW. Good to see her near the top.

BuffySlayer, you forgot Janet. She'd rank in between Cyndi Lauper and Kylie Minogue on your list.

I'd take Michelle Branch over Vanessa Carlton. Early on, I used to always get those two mixed up, but ever since she recorded This Game of Love with Santana, I think Michelle's cool.

I lost any respect I had for Michelle Branch when I heard her sing live...Vanessa Carlton is from my area but I really can't stand her music lol

singing talent isn't the be all/end all when it come to an artist. Do you think Bob Dylan would've even gotten signed in the first place if it was just based on his singing abilities?

Give me an "average" voice who writes great music and produces, etc.. than someone who has this beautiful range and does nothing but sings what others wrote for them to sing.
