"Paul's Family"

Comedy/Drama

Paul's Family, stars Paul Reiser as Paul Becker. Paul is happily married to his wife, Cheryl Becker (Faith Ford), and a great father to this three kids. But things go hey-wire when Paul suddenly dies in an automobile accident. Paul's widowed wife, Cheryl, needs help raising her kids: Kevin Becker, 19 (Adam Brody), Chantel Becker, 17 (Evan Rachel Wood), and Mackenzie Becker, 16 (Alexa Vega). Cheryl calls upon her bachelor brother, Tony Stasiak (John Stamos), and her single sister, Dana Stasiak (Kimberly Williams-Paiseley) to help her out, they willingly accept. They move into the Becker home shortly after Paul's funeral. They (Cheryl and the kids) each handle their own methods of healing in their own ways, but some problems arise soon after they are notified about Paul's death.

Ep1: The Last Seen Of Paul:
Paul and his wife, Cheryl celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary. The next day, Paul is on his way to pick up Mackenzie from swimming practice, but ends up being killed in a car accident. Cheryl and the kids try to cope with the loss of Paul.
(The only episode with Paul appearing in, except for the occasional flashbacks by the family)

Ep2: The Funeral Of Paul:
Cheryl asks her siblings, Tony and Dana, come move in with her and the kids and help her raise her teenagers. Tony and Dana move into the house hours after Paul's funeral. Tony and Dana try to get settled into their "new" home.

Ep3: No UCLA For Kevin:
Kevin's longtime hopes of going to UCLA for college in the fall are shattered after being told by Cheryl that they can't afford to send him to UCLA with only one income now since his dad died. Paul is upset, but is furious when he receives a letter from UCLA congratulating him on getting in. Kevin tells Cheryl in front of the family that he blames it all on his dad for dying, and will never ever be able to forgive his dad again-which greatly upset Cheryl.


Ep4: Quitting The Things You Love:
Mackenzie quits the swimming team, due to the memory of her dad being killed on his way to picking her up from practice. Cheryl finds out and tries to convince her to rejoin the team, but no such luck since she has already joined the school's tennis team. Tony and Dana go to the local adult singles bar, looking for dates, but no such luck.

Ep5: Rebelling Against Love Ones:
Chantel decides to show a little of her rebellious side in her own way of dealing with her grief. Chantel gets a detention for telling off her English teacher in front of the whole class. Cheryl decides to ground Chantel, but that doesn't faze her enough to keep her home as she was told. Chantel sneaks out and goes to a party, but when she sneaks back in (drunk as a skunk), she gets caught by Dana. Chantel tries to bribe Dana into not telling her mom, but Dana ends up telling Cheryl.

Ep6: Therapy With A Therapist:
Cheryl signs Chantel up for therapy without consulting with Chantel first. Chantel refuses to seek help from a therapist. Chantel reluctantly shows up to her therapy session (after a long feud with her mom). Chantel ends up pouring out her life story to her therapist, Dr. Collins (Catherine Hicks). Meanwhile, Dana, Tony, Cheryl, and Mackenzie are all notified that Kevin is not going to college at all and is going to work at an extreme sports equipment store at the mall-which isn't what Cheryl had in mind.

Ep7: Coach or Uncle:
Tony decides to coach Mackenzie's tennis team, after her tennis coach quits due to health problems. Mackenzie becomes annoyed that her cool uncle Tony have turned into her "all work and no play" coach. Mackenzie asks Cheryl and Dana to talk Tony out of coaching her team. Tony finds out that Mackenzie does not like him coaching and quits coaching her team. Mackenzie soon learns the team needs Tony, after a chat with her, Tony decides to be the coach again. Kevin and his girlfriend, Madison (Mila Kunis) go to a party at the local frat house, they both end up with too much to drink and have sex at the party.

Ep8: Rights And Wrongs:
Cheryl finds a pack of cigarettes in Chantel's purse. Cheryl catchs Chantel smoking. The two get into a heated argument, resulting in Chantel being grounded and back in therapy. Dr. Collins gets Chantel to talk about her dad, which makes her cravings for a cigarette much more intense. Kevin's steady girlfriend, Madison takes a series of home pregnancy tests and all turn out positive. Madison tells Kevin that she is pregnant. Kevin is in denial that it is his. Madison knows it is Kevin's, only because she was a virgin until the night she and Kevin had sex, which had gotten her pregnant. Kevin still denies it and refuses to listen to Madison.

Ep9: Driving Everyone Nuts:
Mackenzie gets her driver's license. The family is worried about driving with Mackenzie. Madison tells Chantel that she is pregnant with kevin's baby, who believes her. Kevin spreads a rumor about Madison being a slut, which gets back to Madison. Madison tells Cheryl, who is stunned. Cheryl, Chantel, and Madison tell Mackenzie and Dana. Cheryl, Dana, Madison, Mackenzie, and Chantel all confront Kevin. Kevin finally confesses and apologizes to Madison. Madison forgives him, the two get back together.

Ep10: Dana's Fiancee:
Dana gets engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Steve (Kirk Cameron). Dana shares the news to the family. Dana becomes perplexed. She doesn't know if she should be there for her sister and her family or move in with her fiancee. Cheryl and Dana have a sisterly talk, Cheryl tells Dana to go move in with Steve--who only lives on the other side of town (not far away). Tony steps in for Paul and gives Kevin a man-to-man talk about him, Madison, and the baby on-the-way. Kevin and Madison discuss if they should keep the baby or not, the two decide on keeping the baby.

Ep11: Break Down:
Mackenzie's mask of hiding her grief of her dad's death gets the best of her, when she has a break down in school. Mackenzie ends up leaving school. Tony, Dana, and Cheryl comfort her. Chantel gets a wake-up call from Dr. Collins during her therapy session. Chantel decides to quit smoking and start being a "good girl" like she was before her dad's accident.

Ep12: Moving In And Out:
As Dana moves out of the Becker house and into her and Steve's new apartment across town, Madison moves in with the Beckers since her parents kicked her out after knowing she was pregnant. Kevin and Madison are told by Cheryl and Tony to keep their feelings for each other limited while living under the same roof, but two floors apart (Kevin in basement apartment, Madison in upstairs guest room/Dana's old room). Mackenzie gets a D on her Biology exam, which scares the hell out of her-resulting in Mackenzie cramming for her next Biology exam.

Ep13: Falling Hard Or Hardly Falling:
After a bad day at school, Chantel decides "trying" to be a good girl again is way too hard for her to handle. Chantel has a suicidal thought and decides to jump off the bridge after writing a letter to her family. Minutes after writing the letter, Cheryl reads the letter and freaks out. Cheryl calls Dr. Collins, the two women trakc down Chantel on the side of the bridge moments before jumping. Chantel is scared to death of jumping, but can't handle her daily problems anymore. Cheryl and Dr. Collins take turns trying to talk Chantel down, which ends up working out successfully.
(Tony, Mackenzie, kevin, madison, Dana do not appear in this episode)

Ep14: Special Treatment:
Chantel goes to Dr. Collins about her problems, Dr. Collins tries her best to solve or attempt to solve Chantel's many problems. Dr. Collins gives her some medication for Chantel's mild depression. Madison feels weird and awkward. Kevin takes Madison to the doctor's office. The doctor informs Madison and Kevin that Madison has lost the baby. Madison feels horrible about having a miscarriage, Kevin consoles her. Kevin and Madison tells the family that she lost their baby. The family tries to console Madison after Madison's own parents are grateful that she lost the baby-which was upsetting for Madison to hear. With news of Madison's miscarriage, Chantel decides to take more of her depression pills to numb the pain.

Ep15: Hospital Visit:
The next morning, Chantel is rushed to the hospital to have her stomach pumped after overdosing on her medication. Her family and Dr. Collins are there to visit Chantel in the hospital. Meanwhile, Kevin proposes to Madison, who says yes. Dana shows up at the hospital with her fiancee Steve, with news of them expecting their first child in nine months (and their wedding is in two months).

Ep16: Tony's Ex-Wife:
Tony's estranged ex-wife, Jackie (Laurie Metcalf) shows up with intentions of getting back together. No one but Tony knew about Jackie and Tony being married (they married a week after they graduated from high school and got divorced a year later). Tony confesses his feelings to Jackie, who is glad to hear that Tony still has feelings for her. Tony and Jackie continue to be a "couple", which confuses everyone on why the two are getting back together after not seeing each other for the past 22 years. Dr. Collins and Cheryl have a talk about the state of Chantel's mental health. Chantel is put on more medication and is "put on a short lease".
