If I could travel back in time I would travel back to 1775 to fight the British in the American Revolution. My major in college was Early American History so I am fascinated by that era.

1979-1980 with my VCR to tape all the Hello Larry episodes.

The 1970s because the music was so cool!

The American Revolution, and I'd be born in the 1960's so I could live through the 70's and 80's.

And I'd also travel back to 1918 for.. *clears throat*.. obvious reasons..

New York, 1945 with all the boys coming home from the war. Judy Garland and Gene Kelly were at the top of the box office and some of the best films and shows of all time were being produced. I'd also place bets on the Academy Awards for Best Years of Our Lives winning Best Picture ;)

You do realize you would be going back to a world with no cars, airplanes, television, computers, radio, soft drinks, movies, air conditioning, indoor plumbing, toilet paper, and electricity don't you?

and thats not even mentioning what hospitals and densist were like back then.

and don't forget that slavery was still legal.

I'd go back to the new years eve 1999. From then I would make some investments in the stock market and bet on some sporting events. I would also try to stop 911 from happening.

I loved the mid 80s. I had just married, and all my loved ones were alive. Such happy days.

Well, I'm no fan of slavery. However, I guess I could grow to live without those other things.

That's a good one! I've often thought about travelling back to the 80's and taping all the good shows(like Mama's Family :) ), during their first runs(when they were intact and not edited for more commercial time) and then come back here and sell them on Ebay.Of course, keeping copies for myself too!
Better yet, I'd bring a recordable dvd player back with me and record them on that.

Even Better still, would be to go back and actually get a part on Mama's family. It could be a simple walk-on role in the background of a scene, it wouldn't matter to me.:mango

Well, I've only been alive for 13 years, so I would have to say probably the mid 1990's because I always had fun back then when I was little.

This may sound odd coming from me because I HATE the 1980s, but I'd go back to the early 80s. For one reason and one reason only. The beginning of "Showbiz Pizza Place." I'd be a permanent fixture at that restaurant. For those who don't know, ShowBiz Pizza Place changed into Chuck E. Cheese's around 1991. It had a much better stage show (with different, better characters) and although I don't drink, they served alcohol for the adults.

That's to live, however. If I could time travel for a vacation, where I could return to my time that's different. I'd go back to 1789 and visit the inauguration of George Washington. Just so I could see how it all started.

mid to late 80s...see my family just before I was born and all the cool stuff round then. A second choice would be late 70's.

Right around the time when Three's Company started.. 1977-1984.. I'd tape all the original airings of the episodes and I'd track down those producers and tell them to get Jack and Janet together! And plus the 70's/80's seemed like a fun era so that's another reason :D

1970s I would love to travel back to the 1970s as an adult; and met the people that I am a fan of during that era; also I would love to see a live taping of some of my favorite 1970s sitcoms like Sanford and Son and Good Times.

I love the music and the fashions of this decade:)

I'd go back to the year 1975, and be the age of 25 years old. I just LOVE era and everything about it! I'd live in Los Angeles and take regular trips out into the mountains and into the country. Wonderful music, movies, TV and celebrities.

I know you think they are a wimpy band. But I'm a fan.

Glad I made you laugh!

Do you mean travel back permanently or just for a while?

If it's permanently, I would choose the 1950s. Especially the late 1950s, like 1959. It would be great to walk around and see normal cars for a change. And well-dressed people (men wearing hats and women wearing dresses). And teens with those big pompadour haircuts. If I was at an age where I was going to school, I wouldn't have to worry about anyone bringing a gun there! (Back then, the school problems kids had were talking in class, chewing gum in class, and running in the halls- pretty serious!)
Also, things like TVs and radios were actually made here, not in Japan or wherever. And, they lasted a long time. We had a freezer that lasted from 1959 to 1991.

I would take a temporary trip to the Old West, around 1880 or so.
I would explore a real old west town. Check out the saloon, bank, etc. And I could carry a gun without being arrested.

I would also like to go back to 1969 so I could buy my recently-bought '69 Cadillac when it was new. And, pick up a few other cars, like a '69 Dodge Charger R/T 440.

I was still living in downstate CT at the time so my parents took my brother and I to Arthur Treachers for dinner and then to the beach for fireworks. I experienced my first hurricane that year, it was pretty exciting.

If you could travel back to an earlier time, how would you survive (pay your bills, rent a house, etc)

If you went back to 1969 for example, all the money in your wallet would be counterfeit, all the money in your bank account would be "yet to be deposited"....if you bought gold at todays prices and took it back to 1969 you'd get about $35 an ounce. Take a real beating.

Lots of people say they would bet on known sports outcomes, or buy stock in companies famous for stratospheric growth....but where would you get the money to bet or invest? You would have no credit history to borrow against.....your academic credentials would be worthless.....and any alibi you'd share that you had "come from the future" would be ridiculed at first, and take months to prove to anyone's satisfaction.

I suspect the first month, at minimum,... would be pretty dire, indeed.

I would also like to go back to the 1910s & 1920s (Hollywood) and try to save films that are considered lost (or destroyed) today; or see Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd, and Wallace Reid in the flesh during the pinnacle of their careers.

Aside from going back to see people you've lost, which is pretty obvious, I'd go back to the time of the dinosaurs. I've always loved dinosaurs and would want to see the time they actually lived on the Earth. Of course, I'd need to be heavily armed if I intended on being around for a while.

Similarly, I’d like to go back to the late ’40s, ’50s and ’60s with an HD-DVR capable of recording analog, over-the-air signals, and bring back all that early television that’s lost forever — especially the first ten years of Johnny Carson’s run on The Tonight Show, which was in color from day one, but mostly exists in black-and-white kinescope clips.

Very little color footage survives. NBC wiped all the tapes and reused them. They had no idea a topical talk show would hold any future value.

I would go back to early 1960s before all the assassinations and before the British music invasion in the US. And the TV shows didn't have all the raunchy content.
