View Full Version : What did you think about the E! special?
FOLrocks1 09-02-2001, 10:23 PM I like dit. I was good seeing the cast again. The only part i didn't like was that they talked anout Suzanne for like a hor and a half and she got interview the most too! I wanted to see more of the others. She, unfortunatly got the most attention! They didn't talk about Jenilee hardly at all.

Joyce DeWitt, if you are reading these things that i post, i want to say that i love you and i hope to meet you
*Jacob*
I taped it.
I loved it!
I loved when they showed part of the opening from "TAC" and they had the TC logo and the COMPANY part slid off the screen and A CROWD came on it.
Joyce of course looked like her beautiful self.(I think you and I will battle over Janet in the future because I think she the most attractive of all the characters)John was still looking young.
But I hated how they never mentioned John and Suzanne weren't typecasted as both had two more shows (Suzanne:She's the Sherrif,StepxStepJohn:Hooperman,Hearts Afire).I loved how unlike most E!THS only half of the cast appeared but not in the TC one!John Ritter,Joyce DeWitt,Suzanne Somers,Norman Fell,Don Knotts,Ann Wedgeworth,Richard Kline,Paul Ainsley,Jenilee Harrison,Priscilla Barnes,Mary Cadorette and Robert Mandan all appeared. That's 12 people not counting Micky Ross,Chris Mann,Bernie West and Bea Dallas.Making a total of 16 people notable to the series.I would have loved if David Ruprecht,Brad Blaisdell and Ann Schedeen would have made it.I had to quickly make a new signature to display my love for that famous show that became a legacy:
------------------
To Norman Fell and Audra Lindley:
You are probably in the top 10 of the most loved TV couples.
The Ropers were always there to make me laugh when my days were blue....Helen with her outrageous muumuus and Stanley's headaches and love for "Name That Tune".....
We'll miss you because we know you are at that Cevelot Hills in the sky....
Dedicated to
Norman Fell (1925-98)
and
Audra Lindley (1918-97)
Two Wonderful dear people who deserve a round of applause.
fizzyrox 09-02-2001, 11:16 PM ive seen it before but i watched it again and as much as i think suzanne is a nice person..it was too much of just her! they made too much of a big deal out of the whole contract dispute. I wanted to see Priscilla talk more cuz shes the one i know the least about and she seems really nice. -Leslie
FOLN@NFan 09-02-2001, 11:25 PM i saw it for the first time and i liked it! i do see what happened now and dont think it was right to the women. and the men do look the same, except for Mr. roper and furley. larry got white and jack is a little heavier. janet looks like she did in the last episode in this special! i didnt recognize Jenilee tho! lol
but did anyone notice that STEP BY STEP was an ABC show for most of its lifespan, and it aired for about 6 years! i know, differnet producers/etc, but ABC still hated her, right? figure that out...
Doug
Sean Snow 09-02-2001, 11:37 PM LOL I don't really think ABC hated Suzanne. They had to get rid of her or they'd have to replace John and joyce and the producers
Mcfly 09-03-2001, 01:41 AM Good point, Doug. I guess it was 10 years later and the new brass didn't care what had happened all the years earlier.
And, yes, WAY too much time spent on Somers and the contract nonsense. Funny how 20 years later she's still dominating the action just like E! was showing from the days on the show. And the producers (of TC) must've been ready to seek prof. help after Barnes came in and said "I want off". I'm sure there were a few "What the hell does it take to keep someone on this show?!"

I just saw it for the first time and I liked it but I think they shouldn't have made half of the show about suzanne somers.I wanted to see more about the others too.
allen 09-03-2001, 02:45 AM During the contract dispute segment, they were saying that the producers and cast were debating over who was the star of "Three's Company." Now even though they weren't too personally involved in the dispute, in my opinion the Ropers were the stars. After all, they didn't want to do a spinoff starring the Chrissy character. By the way, was there any interview footage from the '70s and '80s featuring Audra Lindley? I mean she was the only major part of the cast you never saw.
The only reason the Ropers got their own spin-off was because the producers were following in "Man About the House"'s direction because they had "George and Mildred" a spin-off about the British Ropers.Same with "Three's a Crowd" and "Robin's Nest".
danithang 09-03-2001, 05:58 PM I saw the special, and I have a couple of opinions of my own. First off, about the whole Suzanne Somers thing when the producers told her she couldn't dress, look or sound like Chrissy when she went to CBS, I think they were scared that if she acted like Chrissy on CBS then that would have tooken ratings from Three's Company because viewers would have prefered to see Chrissy over the other two girls.
I really think Chrissy was the star when she was on there even if Jack was supposed to be the star. When Chrissy was on there they had a lot of storylines with her, but when Terri started, she wasn't really the main focus like Chrissy they made it more about Jack and his Bistro. I think the producers did that so the girls wouldn't become more popular than Jack, like Chrissy did in the first 5 seasons.
As for Joyce Dewitt, when she was being interviewed she sounded like she was jealous of Suzanne because Suzanne was more famous than she was. She also sounded jealous when John got his own show, and when that show didn't make it, she sounded like she was happy (in a, ha ha that is what you get, sort of way). And if she has traveled around the world and experienced so many religions then how come she can't forgive Suzanne Somers, if she is so religious then she should know how to forgive and forget.
DJM77 09-03-2001, 07:20 PM I had seen it before but I watched it again. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give it an 8.
Montana Ponine 09-03-2001, 08:03 PM I'm soo mad, I missed it cuz I was at Disneyland! But at least Disneyland was worth it..I guess.... http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/frown.gif

Kari084 09-03-2001, 08:27 PM I didn't really like it for some reason.

fizzyrox 09-03-2001, 10:24 PM yeah ok i really think Joyce should just forgive and forget too. It was 20 or so years ago and they are 'older and wiser' now. They all make mistakes, and I really think she should just forgive Suzanne, but hey, you never know, maybe she has forgiven her, or maybe..just purposely let the whole contract dispute out of her mind and shes moved on hopefully. you never know! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

Krisalicious 09-04-2001, 10:44 AM I loved the E! True Hollywood Story! I had to go to the shore on sunday....but i forced my parents to come home by 8! Anyway, there were LOTS of things i didnt know about TC! Some of these things are.....
-Priscilla said that TC years were the WORST 3 years of her life.
-When Suzanne didn't show up for ep tapings, her lines went to Don Knotts.
-Suzanne Somers fired her first manager and then her husband became the manager.
-the reason she "bounced" was because she wasnt concentrating on what she was doing and she only noticed when she saw it on screen.
-the producers "expected too much of Jenilee."
-Norman Fell had a deal that if the Ropers failed, he could go back to Threes Company.
-The "Chrissy minutes" were filmed but Suzanne was not allowed to go on the TC set.
-Its not TOTALLY suzannes fault about that contract crap....her managers did that too!
and i know theres more.... im just not thinkin of it!
ros583 09-04-2001, 01:32 PM Too much about Suzanne. The producers were on a little too much and too much focus was on the contract dispute. I would like to hear from joyce and Priscill a more. Was it just me or did Priscilla seem really uncomfortable with the whole interview thing? She kept messing with her hair and seemed a little strange to me. She didn't seem happy at all even now. Her Terri character was so bubbly but she didn't seem happy at all.
I thought Chris Mann (who didn't look anything like I thought he would) was so lucky to be signing the book with the cast and lucky to get interviews with them.
Sean Snow 09-04-2001, 04:18 PM I noticed that too! Remember when she did that "Where's the rent, Jack?" thing? She sounded so funny! But I think they shouldn't have forced her to work. Maybe for one more season, but they needed to enjoy her TC days!
What bugged me was something that I'd suspected for a while. When they explained the whole "Three's a Crowd" thing, they said that when TC ended, most people wanted Jack to end up with Janet. (Something I always thought should happen!) The ONLY reason they didn't do that was because we'd already met Janet's parents and the whole premise of TAC was to have the girl's dad own the building. What a pathetic excuse!
