View Full Version : Best, and worst movie you've seen this year?
Brad Russ 09-18-2004, 04:51 PM It doesn't necessarily have to be a film that was made in 2004, just the worst and best one from any year, that you saw this year. Also, what are the best and worst ones you've seen that came out in 2004? The worst movie I saw this year was either The Apocalypse, or Gothika. Both were equally bad. I only saw one 2004 movie, so I can't answer that question.
MandieR1980 09-18-2004, 05:46 PM I saw The Ring last weekend on one of the HBO's or something. The movie was so bad that it sucked the energy right out of me. That was 2 hours of my life I wish I could get back.
I saw The Princess Diaries 2 this week with my cousin and we loved it.
I think the best movie made this year was Fahrenheit 911.
As to the worst - this year I saw a bunch of horrible movies, all thanks to my summer film class in London. The film "London" was pretty terrible, and then we got to meet the director  Oh joy. It's like "Hi sir, nice to meet you. You made the most boring film I've ever seen."
GeorgeWBushGOP 09-19-2004, 12:12 AM Two genius movies to do on a cheap budget to make millions. Taking advantage of ignorant people. COngrats to Mel Gibson and Michael Moore.
The second being passion of Christ. ..Now I do believe in God. However this movie was terribly unpleasant. Watching Jesus getting the snot kicked out of him for almost three hours is hardly what I would call a great flick for a "makeout date"
Best Moive I would say Spiderman2 was fun to look at. and worse was those kids movies I am forced to see like "Harry Potter" and "Scooby Doo 2"

I'm looking forward to seeing that myself. That'll definitely be the number one DVD on my rental list next month. I'm also hoping to see Mean Girls sometime soon. It looks pretty good, and I'm a huge Tina Fey fan.

Okay, first I want you to understand something - personally, I had a lot of problems with Fahrenheit 911, but overall it had the biggest effect and will probably be one of the most remembered films of the year - love Michael Moore or hate him, you have to see that.
Second of all I wonder if you've even seen the film. Michael Moore does research his facts - every fact he cites in that film he can back up. The problems arise from the conclusions he draws from them. I don't buy into many of his conclusions, but he does raise some interesting questions from the research that he does.
You can't say something isn't true just because you happen to not like it.
Brian 09-20-2004, 11:00 PM All discussions of Fahrenheit 9/11 end here. Political posts like these are prohibited. Thank you.

I said I did see the film. I don't hate Michael Moore. I dont think you read my post at all. I think he is a corporate genius. He found a gimmick and went with it. But if you take that movie as fact I have a bridge to sell you cheap so email me for details.
I am not saying it is not true because I don't like it. I did not like the ACTUAL events of 9/11 and that was ALL TOO REAL!!
His conclusions are bogus and he knows it. He has his audience that he fools so god bless him. I can give you 100 inconsistancies in that film easily if you want to email me. and it is not pasted off some GOP site. It is actual notes I took when seeing the film.
Staunch democrats don't take the film as truth. They think it is harmful. Moore was reaching out to the Hate Bush crowd period. Basically called "sing to the choir" and got a rave of curiosity. (whenever a movie is contraversial the world goes to see it..Just like Passion of CHrist) Same thing with Mel Gibson. I wish I thought of it to be honest with you.
So you take the movie as fact but don't buy into many of the conclusions. You must be related to John Kerry!!

Sorry I did not know political posts were not allowed. But I was discussing a movie and not neccesarily politics. But I get the point.
Anyway next year's crops of movies looks like we are going to have some megablockbusters. I especially look forward to seeing KING KONG!!!

I did read your post - but I guess we both seemed to have misunderstood what the other one was saying. No, I certainly don't believe everything Moore says, nobody really does. All I'm saying is that I think it was one of the best films made this year, mostly because of all the controversy. So really, I don't know what we're arguing about, it seems to me we agree on that.

Come on Brian, we weren't talking about politics. Why aren't we allowed to discuss a movie on the movie boards? As long as we keep it focused on the film, what's the harm?
:)

exactly.
I am sorta curious if discussions over The Big One and Roger And Me are prohibited here as well, since both are Moore documentaries but aren't as overtly political as 9-11 or Bowling For Columbine.

I don't have a problem with Bowling for Columbine, Roger and Me and other Moore works. It's F9/11 that is taboo.
I'm going to discuss this with TJ before any final decision is made and see what he thinks.

oh okay, I wasn't sure if you meant all of MM's works, because in here I have read "no discussions about Michael Moore permitted", so I was unsure if that also accounted for his more journalistic, less political work as well.
Brad Russ 09-21-2004, 10:05 PM I think the problem that T.J. and others have with these types of discussions is that they usually lead to anger and name calling. I cannot recall a single time this subject has been brought up without eventually turning into name calling, so I totally understand where Brian is coming from. If 100% of these converstions end with anger and hurt feelings, obviously the logical thing to do is to ban discussions about the subject altogether.
I think everyone should probably just stop discussions on this subject until Brian gets further word from T.J. I'd hate to see a thread I started get closed.

I did say that, I admit it. Then I realized that not all his works were political.

Political discussions always and I do mean always end up in insults and out of line debating. That's why I was leery of discussions of Fahrenheit 9-11..
I haven't talked to Todd yet about this. No more off-topic posts, please, I want this to be the last one. If you want to discuss this with me further, PM me.
And this thread will not be closed.
LucyCompanyPhan 09-21-2004, 11:48 PM Best- Spiderman 2, Kill Bill Volume 2 & The Girl Next Door

My stance is that Fahrenheit 9-11 is political, and I don't want it discussed here. It will only cause a heated discussion. If you want to mention it as your favorite movie of the year, that's fine.. but we don't need any more discussion of it. If you want to call that censorship on my part, that's fine. It's not really even a movie if you want to be technical, it's a documentary.
You are my guest here and I expect the few rules here that I have to be followed. If you don't like them, you are welcome to leave. Thank you.
G-Force Glockstar 09-22-2004, 06:07 PM Best...
probably "The Sixth Sense" or "Santa Clause"
Worst....
(I'll come back on that one)
