Several music stars have tries their hand at acting, like Madonna, Cher, Whitney Huston, J-Lo (...or was it the other way around?), Lauryn Hill...etc. Which one is your favorite?

IMO, Cher was the most successful. Moonstruck, Mask, Mermaids - she's a fantastic actress.

Bette Midler
Cher
Lauryn Hill

I didnt even think about Lauryn Hill until you mentioned her. Bette and Cher were always the only ones I considered. Whitney Houston did pretty well for herself too.

I'll say Barbra Streisand with Bette Midler a close second.

Eek, I forgot about those two...
But, what the heck, I'll still go with Cher.

Not sure which career came first, but Julie Andrews was both a wonderful singer and actress.

Definitely Bette Midler. Barbra Streisand's good too- but I thought she was acting before she was singing (or just happened to be acting in musicals).

You may not know this, but Sissy Spacek actually had a singing
career in the late 1960s-early 1970s even recording some songs
for commercials before deciding on a career as an actress.

Whitney Houston. Her role in "The Bodyguard" was pretty good.

There's a lot more Bette fans on this board than I though- I thought I was alone! Bette's awesome- I'm definitely getting The Stepford Wives DVD- she was hilarious in that! I bought Gypsy on video a few weeks ago and I've watched it 3 times- she's really great as Mama Rose- Rose's Turn is probably my favourite part in the film.

I've never seen (or heard) Bette's performance on Johnny Carson- but she won an emmy and a golden globe for it I think- so it must be good. She's a great singer- her comedy numbers are really really funny too ('Otto Titsling' and 'Pretty Legs, Great Big Knockers' being my faves!) and she's great in all of her films.

There hasn't been a lot of news about this, but Cher and Bette Midler are meant to be co-starring with Tim Allen, Wanda Sykes and Britney Spears in a movie called 'In the Pink'. It's supposed to start filming really soon- the film's about a sales executive who loses his job and takes a job selling cosmetics as a door-to-door salesman, with the help of some of these women. Could be great- just having that cast on screen with no script would be entertaining- plus is being written by the same person who wrote The Full Monty.
