View Full Version : Is this a good show? G-Force Glockstar 09-16-2004, 06:15 PM I've only heard about it. How is it? Starsky's Chick 12-20-2004, 12:33 AM I've watched a few episodes and it was fantastic. My Mother the Car should've recieved as many awards as possible!!! pscisme 01-15-2005, 08:07 PM The show is incredibly brainless and contains next to no laughs that weren't unintentional. On the other hand, it's so famously pegged as "the worst show of all time" that it's definitely worth checking out. FILE UNDER: SO BAD, IT'S GOOD Tweety 03-29-2005, 07:37 AM MMTC has been universally blasted as the worst TV show of all time for at least the last 30 years or so...It only lasted one season (1965-66 season)... The theme song was cool, and TV Land or Nick at Nite ran a few episodes a few years ago... it did star Jerry van Dyke, and Ann Southern as the voice of the 1928 Porter...so it had some "star" power  You'll sometimes hear references to MMTC on other shows from that time. Although it was probably a "bad show" (but so bad, it's good, as pscisme put it), it probably was an attempt to cash in on the fantasy shows of the time, many of which were crazy ideas, but turned out to be good shows (Mr Ed, The Addams Family, The Munsters, I Dream of Jeanie, Bewitched, etc). Although I remember seeing the show, I can't really tell you anything about the plots (such as they were). If TV Land, or someone else, ever airs a mini-marathon of this show, you should catch it...this is the only "bad" show that everyone should see at least once, just to say that they did. TripperFan 03-29-2005, 09:18 AM Yeah I'd love to see it again if nothing else, just to remind me how bad it was. As I recall, I loved the show, but hey - I was only 5 at the time! I'd also like to see a mini-marathon of "Its About Time" again. As I recall, another stupid show with a great theme song! Munsters#1 04-05-2005, 03:18 AM In episode 60 of The Munsters, there is one small referance to My Mother the Car. Zombo: "I am made for much better things! Macbeth, Hamlet, My Mother the Car!" Ray Kelly 05-13-2005, 04:34 AM I remember I loved it when I was six. It used to show on daytime TV. Mysteriously it has never been repeated in New Zealand since it first showed. Bad sitcom TV is about as relaxing as you can get. Mikado 07-06-2005, 09:19 PM I turned 5 the year this show was on, i only remember the car, pre-1935 cars seemed so exotic to a kid born in '61, so i watched just for that...for many years, anytime i saw a pre-35 car, I assumed it was a "mother car"! hehe ( Blushes ) Steve M. 09-16-2005, 09:16 PM There was this great line from "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," where Murray says, "I haven't seen Ted this angry since they cancelled 'My Mother The Car!'" treky 04-02-2006, 02:57 AM well, from what I remember of it, when a local station used to rerun it on weekday afternoons in the 70s, it was pretty good. I haven't seen it since then, though. TV Knowledge Fan 04-06-2006, 05:21 PM ...I remember seeing it when it was first on NBC (and the night in WASN'T on in New York, due to the great power failure of November 9, 1965...all N.Y. TV stations were knocked off the air, and the NBC afiiliate in Philadelphia {KYW-TV}, which was the closest we could see, wasn't carrying the show that night!), and when it appeared on WNEW-TV {Channel 5} for a while after that. It was pretty bizarre, but Jerry Van Dyke was best playing a "lovable bumbler"...and Ann Sothern had some great lines (she was the "Mister Ed" of motorcars!). Avery Schreiber was great as a "comic villain" in Captain Manzini...I'm only sorry just 30 episodes were produced- if NBC hadn't been impatient about the show's ratings (and the growing ridicule of the whole idea of the series in the first place; that zinger on "THE MUNSTERS" episode "Zombo", for one), perhaps a second season would have been ordered. We'll never know.....and pay no heed to those TV critics who deride "MY MOTHER THE CAR" today. They don't know what they're talking about.."too hip for the room", or they've never SEEN it at all!! todd00 09-03-2006, 09:06 PM want to talk about bad tv, look at todays tv. dahur1 04-05-2007, 11:38 PM The show is incredibly brainless and contains next to no laughs that weren't unintentional. On the other hand, it's so famously pegged as "the worst show of all time" that it's definitely worth checking out. FILE UNDER: SO BAD, IT'S GOOD I was 12 in '65, and remember watching it, but even with a kids imagination, I don't remember liking it all that much. I like a lot of tv shows from the 60's, but this wasn't one of them. omg65 04-10-2007, 02:54 PM Actually the first episode is pretty decent. Not great but pretty good.Unfortunately most of the rest that followed wasn't exactly riveting TV.This show IMO never really had a chance.I still would watch it over most modern day sitcoms though.I think it does get a bum rap though.Certainly not the worst show I've ever seen. There have been hundreds of shows worse the last 35 years IMO. comedyfreak 04-12-2007, 05:59 AM There is a complete show set on ioffer I'm thinking of getting, I've never seen the show before. Scoobiedoo30 04-12-2007, 02:30 PM This show was a very good show Mrdata 04-07-2008, 07:39 PM I remember watching it way back then. It wasn't too bad but it wasn't great either. Charles |
