I read that quick, and didnt see "like brothers are best friends"
I was thinking, yeah, Joe & Brian, and Frasier & Niles, did get close, but I wouldnt call them couples.

I think brothers and/or sisters could be considered friends.
But what makes friends, "friends", is that there are no rules. With couples.... there's too many damn rules.

Will and Grace ... of course...
and that psycho pair ... Jack and Karen..

on FRIENDS there was so much confusion with the title best friends.. of course the ones that come to mind first would be Chandler and Joey.... but Joey and Phoebe were also best friends....and Chandler and Monica (pre-mondler ) considered themseleves best friends. Chandler and Ross were best friends as well considering he was best man at two of his weddings.Ross considered Joey his best friend as well... he also considered Rachel (pre and post R and R) his best friend... Monica and Rachel were best friends...as well as Joey and Rachel.... so when you say best friends... this is what you got

Here's TV underrated best friends that was a joy to watch: Laura Petrie and Millie Helper of The Dick Van Dyke Show. Mary Tyler Moore and Ann Morgan Guilbert were a great comedy team together. I preferred Laura and Millie over Mary Richards and Rhoda Morgenstern. Even though I liked Mary and Rhoda but Laura and Millie together provided good comedy. Too bad there were more storylines with them involved.

Remember when Laura is all alone in the house at night and Millie decides to come back (from the fishing trip or whatever) and surprises her? That's a great one, I haven't seen it in years though.

The 2004 "reunion" of DVD was sad I thought but AMG was great, she picked up playing Millie as if she'd been doing it all the last 45 years.

I would like to add Jo and Blair from The Facts of Life for all the same reasons that JO jr mentioned. When I made this original post three years ago I was not yet a "Facts" fan or I would have included Jo and Blair.

Though I know this thread was created to post best friends in sitcoms, I would like to extend it to dramas to include Kirk and Spock from the original Star Trek, Dr. Bashir and O'Brien from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (who like Blair and Jo were two very different people who started out less than friends but eventually became really close) and Mulder and Scully from The X-Files (a very special realtionship in itself).

The 2004 "reunion" of DVD was sad I thought but AMG was great, she picked up playing Millie as if she'd been doing it all the last 45 years.

That was the highlight of the DVD reunion was Ann Guilbert Morgan playing Millie. She nailed her like she played her on last week's episode. The sad thing about the reunion was Mary Tyler Moore portrayal of Laura. She was playing Laura as though she was Mary Richards. There was opportunity for some good comedy between MTM and AMG but it wasn't due to how Laura was written in the reunion show.

Poor Rose Marie in that show. She still had the edge about Sally Rogers but her health you can tell was not there.
