refused to buy the show on DVD in 2004? My mom and grandmom watched the Jeffersons, All in the Family, and Maude on CBS but have the least bit interest in purchasing those shows on DVD. Anyone else have relatives who feel this way about shows they watched in 60's and 70's?

Why do they feel like that ? Have you asked them ?

Hmmm...I'm not sure.

I have relatives that liked TV Shows back then, but I don't know if they're intersted in buying them on DVD.

They told me because it's nothing new and it's something they seen before. They said they did enjoy all of those shows when they preimered and would rush home to make sure they had the TV tned to CBS when they came on. But they just feel like it's everything they seen before so why watcht it again?
My mom will watch those shows in syndication but not buy them on DVD

I wonder why someone would rather watch cut up episodes then watch uncut ones.

My dad loved M*A*S*H back then & he has all of the seasons that have currently been released on dvd.

I wonder will i feel that way 20 years from now about shows like Fresh Prince and Step by Step.

:nod: my family would never do that, they feel they can just tape the shows off tv. They just don't see the point of spending so much money for DVDs when you can tape them FREE from tv.

I'm about the only person in my family who buys tv show DVDS :)

This is why I was thinking of buying my mother the Golden Girls dvd set when it comes out. She likes the show and watches it often, but she's not much of a dvd person, she probably wouldn't even watch the dvd set enough to make buying it worth it.

By the way, why didn't you put this in the tv-on-dvd board?

My parents don't even own a DVD player :lol:

My mom thinks I'm waisting my money on TV DVDs

My parents did feel this way... until "Dallas" came out on DVD, they bought it last night for $39.99

I saw a lot of the 70's sitcoms in their original run, so I guess that makes me an "older relative." LOL

I might be the only person on this board who is not into DVD's.

I love classic TV, but my money goes toward things that I consider more of a priority.

I also think like SA mother does. I have seen a lot of these shows before, would watch them in syndication, but will not rush out to buy a DVD.

I do not think my parents would go out and a purchase a DVD of a television show that they watched 30 years ago; I on the other hand, would rush out a.s.a.p. once the DVD is released.

My father has been an avid fan of Columbo for years but he doesn't have any desire to buy the series on DVD. My parents watched TV during the late 60s and 70s but they don't feel like buying shows on DVD.

you'll never see a show uncut unless some creates a network that airs sitcoms uncut. Some shows that air on Soapnet I probably won't buy on DVD cause Soapnet airs all their shows uncut, Dallas, Knots Landing, Melrose Place :D

it depends on how much they like the shows. Before my mom died, my dad and I both chipped in half and half and bought her the first three seasons of Mash, because she loved that show. But at the same time, that was about the only show she would've wanted to own on DVD, and I don't think there's any my dad likes enough to own, even tho he does really like The Sopranos, I can't see him buying the DVD sets.

My older sister has a few shows on DVD, but she's not as immediate "I have to have this asap" as I am. My brother doesn't believe in buying music or DVD's, but his daughter does have the first Dawson's Creek DVD.

well, Solomon is a big fan of tape trading.

It's just like there are some people out there who have been trading blank cassette tapes with friends for years... they know blank cd's are higher quality but still, the cassette trades are something they've done so long that even the improved quality of cd's can't really replace the memories they have with blank tapes.

Personally, seeing the price some people charge for tapes (like someone wanted to sell me a Charlie's Angels episode taped off ABC in 1979 for $13.... if season 4 comes out on DVD, I could get that and 20-someodd other episodes in digital quality for $40), I am shocked people are into that and not into DVD's instead, since you seem to get a better deal for the money, even tho I could see the novelty factor in wanting to see the period commercials from when the show was originally recorded.

That's true. I feel that Original Voiceovers and Commercials is too much for a DVD to compete with.

A dvd of a show could do that too.Putting in the commercials of the time & original voice overs, I also think it would be cool to put an on or off choice too.

Goodtimes Home Video actually did such a thing when they released the four Ed Sullivan episodes from 1964-1965 with The Beatles as the special musical guests, not only did they have the entire four episodes with all the guests... but they also included the commercials you would've seen if watching them when they aired.

I just purchased my first TV DVD-season 1 of "The Dick Van Dyke show"-and almost as soon as I started to play it, I was AMAZED at how much better the picture and sound were!!
I haven't seen it on TV LAND in a while, but I was also surprised to see 2 ENTIRE SCENES in the episode "Washington vs. the Bunny" that I had never seen before!

I am with you Angela. I'm really not THAT interesting in seeing shows over again. Once or twice is enough for me. Unless I bought a recordable dvd, Do they make those, I wouldn't be interested in storing more stuff. Til then I'll keep my vcr and tape over and over

yes, they make recordable DVDs. In fact, I have a DVD player/recorder.

My mom and older sister are both the same way. When Cheers came to DVD, I asked her if she'd like to have it (she LOVED Cheers) and she said no. She said she'd watch her favorite shows on TV if they came on but wouldn't spend the money to buy the DVD's. My sister is basically the same way, but the only classic TV DVD she would be interested in buying if it were released would be "Fame."

I guess some of us are more dvd happy then others.
