View Full Version : Happy 30th Anniversary Chico And The Man!
Well folks today is the day, 30 years ago today marks the premeire of the show, the charecters, and of coarse the actors who gave them life.
Chico and Ed/ Freddie and Jack!
the show was awesome and it wouldn't have been the same had they cast anyone else, it was their chemistry and eventual mutal respect of one another that made the show the hit it was than and still is today.
We love you guys and miss you! and happy anniversery!
Cheryl Harrell 09-13-2004, 11:35 AM Happy Anniversary! Hard to believe it has been that long ago. I sure hope it gets released on dvd for the 30th anniversary...
me too, i can't believe they havn't yet, my gosh they are releasing 7th Heaven another good show, and without a trace..shows that you can still see on a weekly basis:confused:
Moonlight Lady 09-13-2004, 02:28 PM It's hard to believe it's been 30 years since it premiered and won our hearts. I was five back then and that was my friday night TV ritual, Sanford and Son at 8 and Chico and The Man at 8:30.
Luckymama58 09-13-2004, 05:48 PM They don't make TV like they used to! What a great show that was. I do hope we are on the list to have the DVD's made soon.
Here's to you:cheers: Ed, Chico, Louie, Mabel, Mando, Della, Rev. Bemis, Salvadore, Liz, Flora, and all the people who guest starred on the show. Thanks for all the memories and laughter!:thanks: party:
hue_mee 09-13-2004, 07:18 PM I am so excited for this great occasion. Chico and the Man's 30th anniversary! The show was so amazing. The cast members were so well suited for there parts and the charisma that each of them gave to the show was a endless masterpiece! Congratulations to Chico and the Man for this wonderful anniversary!
hue_mee 09-13-2004, 09:07 PM It is nice to see a tribute here, with some wonderful responses. I sent out celebration tribute ideas to alot of people and got little response. I appreciated those who replied but was fearing the worse. The fading away from the CATM/ Freddie interest.
that won't happen, we won't let it...here's to the DVD SOON!
dandelion wine 09-13-2004, 09:50 PM Here's wishing Chico and the Man a very Happy 30th Anniversary! :woohoo:
And may that DVD see the light of day, soon.
Cheryl Harrell 09-14-2004, 07:12 AM I may have added other interests lately like getting into Starsky And Hutch (The origional ones, Paul Michael Glaser & David Soul) but my interest in CATM/Freddie is still here & won't die. I sure wish they would put the show on dvd...
sfditusa 09-14-2004, 08:43 AM I can' believe it's been 30 years. Who would have thought 30 years ago while getting hooked on CATM that we would be here 30 years later staring at a computer screen connecting with us die hards.
How cool is that.
Watching CATM every Friday was a ritual for me as well. I remember Sanford and Son being right before CATM, I like that we all share that memory. I remember getting the news paperon Sunday and whipping open t.v. guide just praying that
1. CATM wasn't being bumped that week for a special news cast or some new show they were trying out, and
2. It was going to be a new show, not a repeat.
I would even treat it like a date. I would get all spiffed up before the show to get ready to see Freddie, my love :D .
Anyone else doing anything special before the show to make the time pass before CATM started?
Pitooey 09-14-2004, 12:34 PM So it's been 30 years...... WoW How time flies.....
I also want to thank all the characters who made this show possible. Also to Mr. Komack who saw the marvelous Freddie on the Johnny Carson show and picked him to try out for the Chico part.
I want to thank Isaac.... He sure is a nice man and I won't ever forget his aura..... ;) ;) ;) I also loved Jack Albertson, Scatman Crothers, Della Reese and all the other fantastic actors who starred on the show. I also want to thank Sammy Davis, Rich Little, and a host of others who guested on the show. Most of all I want to thank Freddie............. For if he didn't play Chico I would not have met some really nice Chico fans..... Thank you Freddie.......... ;) Thank you fans.....
scott cokeley 09-14-2004, 08:22 PM This is a day late, but I CANNOT BELIEVE IT HAS BEEN 30 YEARS. I loved watching this show on NBC as a young lad, (and still do). This is and always will be classic 70s TV. Why are so many shows available on DVD that are on prime time, and not a classic like this? Makes no sense, there is no justice....THIS WAS A TOP 3 SHOW!!!! but we, the fans, will always hold a special place for this show....we live in hope....here's to Freddie, Jack, Scatman, Isaac, and all the others.
scott cokeley 09-14-2004, 08:26 PM I forgot, our local DJ on the classic rock stationwas nice enough to mention that "30 years ago today" Chico And The Man debuted on NBC. He said he loved that show, and made a comment about what happened to Freddie, without going into detail, then said "of course, there's been so many graet shows since then .......YEAH, RIGHT!!!!" I thaught that was cool......they just don't make these kinds of shows anymore. Myself, there isn't any comedies I watch that are new....they don't hold my interest for some reason.................
Prince 09-14-2004, 08:35 PM to CATM...I loved the show 30 years ago and I love it even more today. I guess I appreicate it more now. Maybe the first time around I didn't think there would be a time without Freddie and his talent. I still love the special bond that he and Jack seemed to have shared during that time. As far as forgetting about Freddie and the show...that ain't gonna happen sister..LOL.
hue_mee 09-14-2004, 09:14 PM Fads come and fads go but I believe Freddie will live on together in our hearts to those who truly admire him. My point is that I will always love Freddie and the show regardless of what the media says, what people say or do regarding the show. If for some insane reason that interest does die down, which I speak for all of us here, "THAT IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN". Atleast there our websites, groups to show others, old and new fans of Freddie and Chico and the Man that there is information available that is fun, positive and uplifting to those who seek the truth about Chico and the Man
hue_mee 09-14-2004, 09:32 PM I want to appologize if I sounded moody. I have been going through some "anniversary burn out" with all the preperation for the 30th anniversary and couldn't understand why there was little response to the anniversary tribute emails I sent out. I was planning on posting what any one had at the website for Isaac, and any other related member of the cast and crew to see. I guess I was trying to hard to make a big deal out of the special occasion.

Prince 09-14-2004, 09:47 PM apoligize dear girl. You were not sounding moody, just frustrated from our lack of response...and I'm the first one to admit I'm guilty. Just know we appreicate all the effort you put into all your web sites to honor Freddie Prinze, CATM and Isaac. I visit them a lot even if I don't post. You will keep thier memories alive for a long time..and much is owed to you and all the other fans that do all the hard work.
sfditusa 09-14-2004, 11:27 PM I agree with Macca. I haven't had as much time to visit let alone post, yet do want to say to Suzanne how much I appreciate her sites and the connections she continues to forge with her sites. Her sites also keep the memory of CATM alive, and made the connection that much more real with a living member of the cast through Isaac.
I wanted to also thank Angie and Eli for their wonderful site and fan fiction that keeps CATM's memory alive.
And of course, thanks to all of us fans for keeping Freddie alive in all of our hearts.

That's pretty cool. ;)
I didn't get much of a chance to say anything for the anniversary, but I thought about the show and all of you throughout the day. I can't believe that it has been 30 years and like so many of you have mentioned....NO DVD!:( Hopefully soon though, I've read that all the seasons of Sanford and Son should be released by the beginning of next year, so MAYBE (BigMAYBE) they will think to release Chico soon. Also, keep an eye out ladies, TOAD should be out sometime early next year. Not much, but you can still hear and see Freddie work his magic.
victorianscribe 09-15-2004, 09:51 AM Unfortunately, I had a meeting on the night of the 30th Anniversary, so I was unable to visit/post, but Freddie is never far from my mind and heart. As far as losing interest, just the opposite ... during the past few days or so, I feel my love for him has grown ever-deeper.
Like everyone else here, I continue to hope that a DVD of the show will be released someday soon. After all, Freddie will finally receive his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next year. Maybe a DVD can't be far behind ... and maybe an angel named George Lopez might help promote such a product? (Well, a girl can always dream.)
I'm hoping that Freddie will be featured on the TOAD DVD; it's already been delayed once, and from what I heard, it's supposed to be a "best of" selection. I won't have much interest in buying it if Freddie's not featured, but I truly hope he is. His appearances on that show are worth keeping.
Freddie, wherever you are, I love you forever.
hue_mee 09-18-2004, 04:42 PM If any one have not seen it yet. Mando has posted a message regarding the 30th anniversary. It is posted in the "Chico and the Man celebrates it's 30th anniversary at Ed Brown's Garage (http://edbrownsgarage.tripod.com)
Enjoy!
