View Full Version : Crystal Bernard On "Happy Days" Reunion
pilotguy 09-10-2004, 06:36 AM ABC has announced the names of the "Happy Days" cast members who will be appearing on the upcoming anniversary reunion special....and Crystal Bernard (who played "K.C. Cunningham", Howard's niece the season that Erin Moran starred in the "Joanie Loves Chachi" spinoff) WILL be on the show!
I'm VERY happy to see that the producers didn't "conventiently overlook" Crystal's character. (She certainly got a bad deal on the original series....Once "Joanie Loves Chachi" was cancelled and Erin Moran returned to "Happy Days", Crystal and "K.C." were suddenly gone!).
It will be great to see Crystal on TV again!
HelenandJoe213 09-10-2004, 08:27 AM When will it be on? I am taping it.

They're not sure yet, but it's probably going to be shown during the "Sweeps Week" in November.
Crystal was not at the softball game or studio taping from what I've been told. I guess she had a change of plans, there was a reserved parking place for her.
She may be included in clips. The reunion is going to air on ABC in February.
Jencbfan1 09-17-2004, 12:47 AM That kinda sucks she wasn't there. :( I hope she will at least be featured in some of the clips.

I'm REALLY sorry to hear about Crystal's absence. Maybe I'm wrong about this, but it seems like the "Wings" cast members have a real aversion to remembering their past accomplishments. I'm not saying that they should be like "Sunset Boulevard's" Norma Desmond and constantly live in the "glory days" past, but an occassional acknowledgment of "Wings" or other past appearances would be nice to see once in a while....but the "Wings" cast members NEVER seem to want to "look back"....and frankly, their fans are poorer because of it!
Jencbfan1 09-17-2004, 12:12 PM I'm sure something else just came up that Crystal had to attend to. She is working on a new CD which I'm sure is keeping her quite busy. I think she's proud of her time on "Happy Days" and would have participated in the reunion if she could have.

Sounds like Alyssa Milano, it's like Alyssa wants to forget she was on Who's the Boss? and that because of being on that show it made her a star, which is very sad that she wants to treat the show that way :(
I am just hoping Crystal might have had a prior commitment she couldnt get out of.
Jencbfan1 09-17-2004, 04:21 PM I definitely don't think people should jump to conclusions or make comparisons. Nobody has any idea about why Crystal wasn't able to make it. It's not right to assume that she just blew the thing off because she didn't want to have anything to do with "Happy Days" anymore. She's not that kind of person. I also don't think it's anybody's business as to why she wasn't able to be there and that we should just leave her be.

You're absolutely right, Jen! We DON'T know the reason why Crystal didn't attend the "Happy Days" taping...it could have been anything....She could have been sick (although I certainly hope that she wasn't!).
However, my thoughts on the "Wings" cast now being "distant" from the series still stand....although after I posted my earlier message, I started thinking about it. Maybe we can't fault them for not wanting to bring up "Wings" now....after all, the series hasn't been treated with the greatest respect by NBC, NICK, etc. In fact, when "Wings" was having multiple airings on USA, it was made the object of many insulting (and somewhat cruel) jokes by stand-up comedians and sitcoms. So maybe the cast members feel a little foolish bringing up a show that has been treated with so little respect over the years....When I look at it THAT way, I can't say that I blame them!
Jencbfan1 09-17-2004, 08:44 PM I agree that "Wings" never got any respect whatsoever and definitely didn't get the accolades that it deserved. It always bothered and angered me so much to hear people putting the show down and making fun of it. It's my favorite show ever and it hurt me as a fan when it was being discussed in a negative way or was the butt of someone's joke.
I think sometimes when actors are done with a project, they want to move on. So many of them who have a successful run in a series of movies or on a TV show are forever known for one role and get totally type casted and I think that most people would want to avoid that (maybe that's the case with Alyssa Milano... doesn't always want to be known as Samantha Micelli).
But, I'm sure that Crystal is proud of everything she's done. She was in a very "B" movie called, "Slumber Party Massacre 2" and where most people would have dumped on it as being a bad movie that they regretted doing when they were first starting out... Crystal only talked positively about her role in it and said what a learning experience it was.
I just really wanted to make a point that I think she must have had a very good reason why she couldn't make it to the "Happy Days" thing because she'd be the last person to just bail or not want to be associated with a wonderful show that she was a part of. I didn't want any kind of bashing to go on that would hurt her at all (not to say that anybody here had been bashing her but it could've easily gone in that direction). Crystal is a very awesome, kind and respectful person... totally a lot like Helen.
Anyway... getting off of my soapbox. Hope everybody will have a wonderful weekend. :D

losthighway 09-18-2004, 06:32 PM I was actually surprised when it sounded like Crystal would be there, so I'm not surprised at all to hear she might not. I posted this a LONG time ago, but here is a quote from Crystal about reunion shows:
-------
Q: Crystal, do you think the cast of Wings will ever get back together?
A: We're asked that often. And, we always refer to the "Leave it to Beaver" reunion and the "Brady Bunch" reunion and how depressing those shows are. It's like, "Is that what they became?" So, we decided maybe we'll quit while we're ahead and leave while we're on top. You know, the cliche's.
------
I think she just doesn't care much for reunion shows which is cetainly understandable. She played a pretty minor role on Happy Days and it was at the end of the run for the series. I don't think it has anything to do with her needing to validate her work. Or that she is too busy, and she has every right to choose what she wants to do. I am sure she is very grateful for the opportunity to be on Happy Days. Gary Marshall was the biggest influence in her career between casting her in a small role in "Young Doctors in Love" and then getting the opportunity on Happy Days.
I just hope she starts getting involved in more projects because I think she is a talented comedic actress and it is a shame that talent is currently going to waste.
Jencbfan1 09-18-2004, 07:04 PM Yeah, reunion shows usually don't tend to be very good and don't leave you with good final memories of a show or close things on a high note. "A Very Brady Christmas" for example. Not a good thing. I think it's better if you are gonna have a reunion show to do a clip thing and interviews (like "Happy Days" is gonna do) rather than trying to get everyone back into character and do an actual episode. Hopefully they'll at least show a few clips of Crystal as K.C.
I definitely hope that Crystal will do another sitcom sometime... hopefully it would be her own show where her character would be the main focus. She really is such a talented comedic actress and it would be so awesome seeing her on the small screen again on a regular basis.

HelenandJoe213 09-18-2004, 08:22 PM Crystal is one of my favourite actresses, I'm just in awe when she acts.
pilotguy 09-18-2004, 10:13 PM The REAL shame is that Crystal Bernard is SO talented on so many levels and in so many different forms of entertainment.....music, comedy, drama....in theatre, in films, on TV....but unfortunately, we JUST DON'T SEE ENOUGH OF HER!
The entertainment industry needs to wise up and give this gifted lady the exposure that she deserves!
HelenandJoe213 09-18-2004, 10:27 PM Exactly, and she has the look. I mean Crystal Bernard is one of the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. Now, take in mind I hate Country, but I will be buying her CD. That has to say something.
Jencbfan1 09-19-2004, 05:31 PM I'm really not a huge country fan either but Crystal has such an amazing voice and writes such beautiful songs that it doesn't really matter what kinda music she sings cuz it's always awesome.

dawsongirl 10-02-2004, 02:02 AM In regards to a Wings reunion:
Isn't it a little early for one? The show hasn't even been off the air 10 years. Maybe when the 10 or 15 rolls around, they'll be more willing. Hopefully.
