View Full Version : "Maddie Hayes Got Married"
"louder, you're shouting for two now".
dave tricks walter into visiting the office. he arrives. dave ends up throwing a wedding for maddie and walter. bert and macguilacuddy throw a bachelor party. ha, The Order of The Yellow Napkinheads. that was funny.
this wedding was just great. terri goes into labor as it starts. dave and maddie argue. i laughed hard when maddies veil got hung in the door of the church and yanked her backward.
the hopsital scene was incredible. the argument at the nurses desk. the arguement in the delivery room. walter and terri both telling them they are still in love with each other as dave and maddie declare hate instead. then after the heated fight, they kiss..and walter delivers the baby.
it was great the way everyone (but bert) spruced the office up in anticipation of the bishop arrival. i especially liked it when they were all sitting in their chairs staring at the door waiting on him.
interesting....the priest performing the wedding is the same guy who is the blind priest "lonigan" on the soap, PASSIONS.
bert in drag, as a stripper...with macgilicudy hot for him. YUCK. but it got the laugh out of me.
an extremely good episode. one of the best.
rating: 9.5
CindyK 09-09-2004, 11:20 PM This is one of the most screwball comedic episodes in the entire run of Moonlighting and I just love it!
Bert in drag; Maddie's jealousy at the wedding and her reactions to David being there with Terri; the hilarity at the hospital reception desk ("Why do I think you are all together?)--this episode makes me laugh at loud several times.
And then the poignancy of several of the scenes.... David blue about the wedding and trying to tell Terri about it; the final scene between Maddie and David; and even David down at the bachelor party (W: "You look like you've already had quite a night." D: "I've had quite a year.") These are good scenes too.
I gotta agree! This is one of my all time favorites. There is not one wasted line in the whole episode. My favorite part is either the wedding and the absurdity of Maddie getting married but still concerned with who David brought to the wedding, or the whole hospital scene from the time they all come in to Terri (in labor!) finally cutting right to the heart of it all with, "For God sakes, will you two kiss already!"
Tazmania 09-10-2004, 12:15 PM I love the way Maddie shows her jealousy in this one!
And David telling her to butt out! That's hard for her.
It's David's vengeance and it shows that Maddie can not hide her feelings anymore.
I feel sorry for Walter when he says: Wait a minute, you're not gonna hold anything are ya?"
The final scene when they are talking in Terry's hospitalroom touches me the most.
It's almost for real when maddie says "I love you David, you gotta know that" and "I really wish with all my heart that this is your baby inside of me". And then he just melts and takes her for a cafetaria dinner......
Beautiful episode
david&maddie4ever 09-10-2004, 10:03 PM This, my friends, is my personal all-time favorite episode. I legitimately loved every single scene...Bert at the bachelor party, the wedding catastrophe, the fantastic scene at the hospital front desk, and the amazingly emotional finish. To me, this is Moonlighting perfection...10+.
And those quotes from Mads that you posted, Taz, are just phenomenal. Such a tear-jerker ending...fabulous.
CindyK 09-10-2004, 10:18 PM Yeah, the end scene is nice HOWEVER, if we all believe that David is the father of Maddie's baby and that she really knew that deep inside, then once again she is lying to him about it. And that one detail taints the scene for me.

I still have doubts if she really knew it, she seems very sincere about what she says.......
That one line in the last scene was the only flaw in the whole episode for me, too. I think we were supposed to believe that she really thought Sam was the father. But I have problem with how she goes from being unsure in 'Fetal Attraction' when she leaves her parents to the being so certain after the dreams in 'Tracks of My Tears' when she talks about sonograms and calendars. After the climactic ending of 'Maddie Hayes Got Married', I would have hoped the fog would lift. I still believe they both acted like David was the father although neither of them admitted it.
kismet 09-11-2004, 01:42 PM It's hard to believe that Maddie would have "done the deed" with two men, both of whom "didn't come dressed for the party".
Therefore, I believe that she knew that David was the father.
I always chalked it up to the writers not being able to decide. Maddie knew -- they didn't!
I also have trouble believing that Maddie would have slept with both of them without using protection, particularly given what she said to David in 'To Heiress Human' about taking responsibility for what she does with her body. Inconsistent writing again, which happened in several places during this storyline. The two big clues to me that Maddie knew (at least on some level) that the baby was David's were 1) she called him first when she found out she was pregnant and 2) when she was ready to go back to LA, she told her parents she hoped she wouldn't be raising the baby alone. So the dreams in 'Tracks of My Tears' scared her so much that she did a 180 by the time she got back? I could have lived with her being unsure about the father, but telling David she was absolutely sure it wasn't his was almost unforgivable to me.
CindyK 09-11-2004, 02:16 PM And let's not forget the time frame and the odds due to frequency. When Maddie arrives back at the office in Tracks she tells the staff how far along she is and then later David states exactly how long she was gone...and when you do the math, it means she had to have gotten pregnant not long before she left...which could only have been doing the month that she and David were "together." In addition, she slept with David many many more times than Sam...which was probably maybe only once or twice with Sam since he left so abruptly. Probability would weigh on David's side. And I too agree.... Mr. oh so perfect Sam would have been the boy scout kinda guy to always be prepared. He would NEVER have had unprotected sex. And we know that David wasn't prepared the first couple of days...and then when he asked her about it, she assured him she was handling it so there is no reason for him to once he knew that. So therefore he and Maddie not one single time had protected sex....ooops.
Tazmania 09-11-2004, 05:05 PM OK I'm convinced!:D
pmarier 09-11-2004, 05:51 PM i liked sam. but i think that sam never did anything without calculating the risk or without being ready for it.
he asked maddie to marry him when he was ready to get married. i think that's why he looked her up. i think he would have never taken a chance of getting a woman pregnant until he was ready for that. this is why maddie seems so particularily strange to me in these episodes. she was not a cruel person-but in these episodes she is.
also, i don't buy her being afraid of changing david. davids the type that grows, but he's also the type who remains true to himself.and maddie knew that.
Wow, you people are all too deep for me tonight! All I can remember of this episode is the scene at the reception desk but I loved it. Too much wine and good dinner to think beyond the humour tonight!!
:sleep2:  :happyface

Me, too. :p Great observations, CK.
Tazmania 09-13-2004, 12:46 PM Yeah sometimes I just enjoy the show without getting too deep, I like to think about it though.
gr Taz
I am looking forward to be able to do that when it airs again here. I was just too young :baby: in the 1980s to get it properly but now I am old :( (enough!)
Tazmania 09-13-2004, 04:38 PM Don't forget to tape 'em!!;)
