Who do you think was the best Maggie? i think dixie but they were both good but dixie.

Dixie Carter is 100 times better then Mary Ann Mobly....Mary Ann had no experience being on DS, and Dixie just seemed to slide in, and be a really good actress.

Mary Ann Mobley is the best Maggie.

In my opinion Dixie Carter was the better Maggie.

Although I didn't particularly care for the character of "Maggie"- Dixie Carter portrayed her pretty darn good.

I think they were both good a "Maggie" but Dixie Carter was better.

I like them both!

1)Dixie Carter- She portrayed Maggie as a tough Southern woman.

2)Mary Ann Mobely- She portrayed a nicer mom

Well at first, I did not like Dixie Carter. After watching the marathon, i changed my mind. I prefer her to Mary Ann Mobley.

I think that since Dixie Carter was the 1st, we think of her only as the trademark Maggie. Someone said earlier that Mary Ann Mobley didn't have any experience on this show, but they were wrong. Earlier in the series, Mary Ann Mobley played Arnold's teacher. The one Mr. Drummond was dating. The title of the episode was "Teacher's Pet."

even though i never really cared for the character of maggie, i think mary ann mobley played her better than dixie carter. mary ann seemed like a sweeter mom to sam.

I especially thought Mary Ann did a great job in Sam's Missing. Her performance was excellent.

I kinda of thought that Dixie Carter as Maggie was good. Now that I have seen both This is my conclusion: The way the stories went in each season fit each Maggie. Example Bullemia imagine Dixie Cater in Bullemia, then imagine Mary Ann Mobley in Drummond's Lady. You'll see the difference trust me.

Can I change my answer? I want to say both portrayed Maggie perfectly. Like the poster above said about Mary Anne in Bulimia, I can only imagine how Dixie's Maggie would act. Dixie's Maggie would probably yell at Kimberly like she did when Sam had the bed wetting problem. I like them both however.

That is so true and thanks for bringing that up. They were both good at portraying Maggie even though I don't care for that character.

If you have met Dixie Carter and the so called family, I gather that they were kind to you. In turn you need to be kind to the people on this board. I don't think that Dixie Carter would be pleased to know that her biggest fan has been dissin' other people on this board.

In a earlier topic you claimed to be Dixie Carters daughter. Now you are saying that you have met Dixie Carter and her family. Which is it?!!:rolleyes: By the way Dixie Carter was fired. She got fired from Diff'rent Strokes in the spring of 1985 and Designing Women didn't even premiere until September of 1986.

I like Dixie Carter better.

I like both equally. I really agree with Sean Snow's and Willjarmon's remarks.
