I was in 8th grade and I was at school. I was sitting in my math class and my social studies teacher kept coming in and whispering stuff to my math teacher. Then a few hours later when I had social studies, he told us about it....Then a few minutes after that, we had an assembly about it.

In school, I was in 4th grade when it happened, and I was in English, and than the prinipal came in and told us that we're safe and there was nothing to worried about, then she told us what happened. At first I thought it was just a plane crash, I didnt know how bad it was until I saw my teacher crying. Then when I got home my mom gave my friend and I an explanation on what happened.

I was at work at the time but I'm no longer employed there, anyway; I found out after work cause at the time, it's one of my co-workers that told me about it. I couldn't believe it and then when I got home and turned on the television and saw what had happened, I just stood there in shock and couldn't believe it.
I was in shock for at least a week or two.

Then, that night "Bush" spoke out about it and I cried a little bit and then when I saw it in the newspaper and just heard more and more about it, I was shocked, sad, all of those feelings mixed together.

I was in school. I was in 7th grade and we were in Gym class. I remember Mrs. Andrews (the teacher) being very upset and we all had no idea why. She was practically crying. Then we all went to the auditorium and our lovely speech giving (not) principal, Mr. Riemer, gave us this speech.

"Some people have been flying planes into buildings. Don't worry, we're safe here."

And then we were free to go. It wasn't until I made it to art class and Mrs. Staub explained that we all really understood. And then I came home and it all felt so weird.

I was in sixth grade at the time. I remember I was walking back to my class from the water fountain and I saw that my old 5th grade teacher, Mr. Seigel had the TV on and I was thinking "well that's starnge he never had the TV on" then I went back to class and my teacher didn't tell us anything but he looked kind of distracted,...I didn't think anything of it. Then, I came home and my mom told me what happened. I'll never forget the footage, the pain in peoples faces, the firefighters who risked their lifes to try to save others. I'm crying right now as I type this...it's just so hard to comprehend. :(

In memory of everyone who lost their lives on 9/11 and their families ....lets also take a minute to remember those on Flight 93 that day :( :(

In my dorm room, in bed. I didn't have any morning classes and was trying to sleep in, but I woke up around 9:30 with a huge earache. So I was trying to get back to sleep when my mom called. I still remember this conversation word-for-word:

"Em, do you have Amy's phone number?"
"Amy? Ah, no I don't think so. Why?"
"Why? She lives in DC!"
"So?"
"DO YOU KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON?!"
"No. What?"
"WE'RE UNDER TERRORIST ATTACK!"
"Huh?"
"TURN ON THE TV!"
"What channel?"
"ANY CHANNEL!"

I'm glad I had my mom to talk to when I found out. I was just staring at the tv gaping with my mom on the phone. Then I went to my neighbor's room because I didn't want to be alone and started to cry. One of the girls did too, but her roommate was on the phone with her mom planning how to get herself to Canada. To this day I still can't believe how selfish she was, thinking only of herself at that moment.

So I went back to my room, and then a few minutes later my roommate came running through the door screaming "WHERE'S YOUR DAD?" She knew he traveled all the time, and in fact had flown out of Newark airport the week before. Thank God, he was perfectly safe. But the minute she had found out she had run out of her class, across campus, to ask about my dad. She's a lovely person. We just stayed together the rest of the day, lit a candle and cried.

At school. I was either in 3rd or 4rth grade.
My teacher explained some of it, but I didn't totally understand, so my Mom explained it to me then when I got home. I remember we talked about it while we ate at Pizza Hut.
I was a little scared then.

I was at work at Gateway where the attack happened. As I came home at around 4:30 PM, I saw the entire wall-to-wall coverage of the news. I have the newspaper of how the attack happened. It was from the Kingston's Daily Freeman from 9-12-01. I have my avatar to reflect back on 9-11.:(

I was a junior in high school. When the planes crashed into the WTC, I was in my period 0 PE class and we had it outside that day, so obviously there were no TV's around. It wasn't until I'd gone on to my period 1 world history class that I found out there. My interpreter came in a few minutes late and when she sat down, she said to me, "Did you hear about what happened?" I said, "No...what happened?" and she said, "Two planes crashed into the World Trade Center an hour ago." To that, I said, "Nope, I didn't hear about it. I was in gym class and we had it outside today."

Nothing more was spoken of it for the rest of my world history class, sooooo it wasn't until I walked over to my period 2 accounting class that I FINALLY realized how real it was. From that point on, all we did was watch the CNN coverage of 9/11. No homework was assigned that day in ANY of my classes.

I was in 9th grade in my Spanish class. There were letters distributed to all the teachers and my teacher read it to us. I had no idea what the hell was going on. I was really confused. They didnt even let us go home early to be with our family or anything. We had to stay there like it was a regular day...

I was at home puting the finishing touches on my lunch watching sportscenter, when my sister called. She asked me if I saw what happened. I didn't, so I switched to ABC. After a few minutes, I saw the 2nd plane come in and hit the tower. I was stunned.

At school in my first hour class, I got to watch coverage of it for that hour. Then I got home, and watched coverage of it for the rest of the night.

I used to work the early shift, I live on the west coast so the early shift for me was 5:00 am. I got a call from my mom at about who told me that my aunt who lives on the east coast called her and said a plane had crashed into the WTC. My job didn't have television or anything so, I didn't get to see the pictures until about 2:00 pm, and what I saw made me cry! I just couldn't believe someone could do this.

My thoughts and prayers to the families who lost loved ones three years ago.

I was on my to class when I heard about the first plane. I turned my car around and came back home. I was watching CNN when the second plane hit...that image still haunts me. I stayed hame and was glued to the television. When I heard about the pentagon being hit I got scared b/c my brother lived in D.C. at the time and had several friends he regularly visited there. I tried calling him at his home and cel phone but received no answer. I was scared to death not knowing. I received a phone call from a friend of mine asking about my brother. When I told her I couldn't locate him she immediately came over and stayed with me all day. I finally got ahold of my brother and was so relieved. He was at home and had been at home the entire time. He was asleep when it first occured and my dad had called and woken him up.

He spent the rest of the day making phone calls trying to locate friends. One in particular because his office was where the plane crashed into. My brother finally heard from him around midnight that night. He had been blown through a wall into the next office. He and his secretaty were the only ones from his office to survive. It took them all day to crawl out. He was one of the lucky ones...although I don't know how lucky. He has gone insane and been in and out of mental institutes ever since.

On a side note, I was in D.C. 6 months later. While on a tour of Arlington Cemetary I talked with one of the tour guides who was on duty that day. His bus was over at the Kenedy Memorial when the plane hit the Pentagon. He said they saw it hit from where they were parked at. They all were shocked into silence. as they took the tour group back he said he remembered 4 Brits on the bus. When they got off the 4 of them went up to him and said, "You will make it through this. Nothing can keep America down." He had tears in his eyes as he told us this.

I gotta say, September 11th sure did bring alot of people together.

i remember sitting in language arts i think it was 2nd period and through the course of like 30 minutes about 10 had left and i remember walking back from the bathroom and saw this girl asking her mom why she was leaving and she told her daughter that something very bad had happened and many people were going to leave early that day. then on the bus ride home, the bus drive had the radio on, and she explained to us what happened. when i got home my dad was watching it, they showed the planes hit the towers about 5 times in a row. my mom and my brother were in washington dc that day and they were stuck in traffic for about 2 hours so they got home later.

the next day we didnt have school and on the 13th i remember all of our homeroom talking about it, and this girl named jessica started crying because her mom was scheduled to be on one of the flights that hit the towers.

I was at work surfing the web and listening to the radio. One of those crazy morning shows. They mentioned a plane crashed into one of the Twin towers. At first I was under the impression it was a small private plane that crashed into it. When they later said it was a jet liner I was suprised the building was still standing. I didn't have access to a TV, and all the news sites were jammed with traffic, so I had to get my info from a message board.

At first I didn't believe it was arab terrorist. I figured it was one of those Timothy McVeigh types. Back during the Columbine shootings it was reported that if the shooters survived they would later hyjack a plane and crash it into the world trade center.

I figured it would be too complicated a thing for a group of visiters to the US to pull off. Aparently not. Then again it wasn't all that complicated.

Learn how to fly a jetliner
Hyjack a jetliner with box cutters
fly plane into the world trade center.

It was a simple plan. The surprising thing is the fact that someone would actually do it. The hyjackers killed themselves just to destroy a building.

The other amazing thing is that no one has officially claimed responsibility for the attack. Whats the point of destroying a building and not claiming credit for it? It wasn't as if it was a military target that would weaken the US. It was an office building. One of thousands.

I guess terrorist logic will never be understood.

I had gotten up early and turned the tv on like I do normally and came across the news and that's when I heard, then I saw the second plane hit I was in shock, I was scared because my dad flies alot for business and was freaking out cause I was afraid he might be on any of the planes, I couldn't reach him for a few hours, then he finally called my stepmom to let her know he was allright, safe and sound in his hotel room.

I slept over at my friends house, and while I was getting my back pack to head back home, my friends mom was crying while she was watching CNN. I didn't really find out what is was about until I got back to my house. My grandfather had just died two days before 9/11, I had gone home with my friend after his funeral. It was a really sad week.

School. They told us NOTHING at all. I was in 8th grade, 3rd period(Keyboarding :wallbang ) and they told me I was being checked out. Couldn't figure out, didn't know why. As soon as we got out the door my dad started to tell me fragments of what happened. I could hear it on the radio too. We then went to pick up my sister at Elementary school(seemed like it took FOREVER and the office was packed with people). Older people were comparing it to WWII and Pearl Harbor. I just couldn't believe it. We then went home and I was glued the TV the rest of the day. Everyday when I got home from school, I would turn on the news to see what happened. I still follow current events to this day, but rarely did before 9/11.

I'll never forget that day as long as I live.

I woke up (and still do) by setting the alarm on the TV in my bedroom. I set it to wake me up at 6:00 that morning (although the time on my TV clock was a little slow) on my local ABC affiliate.

So the TV turns on, I wake up, and the TV is showing smoke billowing out of one of the World Trade Towers. Right after I put on my glasses, the second plane hit.

I immediately got dressed for work and went on the Internet and posted on a message board I used to frequent. I remember all the major news websites were down because they were so flooded with traffic.

Then I heard on the TV that there were reports of some sort of "fire at an executive building in Washingon, D.C. (this turned out to be the Pentagon).

But I had to go to work. By the time I got there, the security guard (who I was pretty chummy with) asked me if I'd heard what happened. Of course I answered in the affirmative.

"Well, did you hear one of the towers collapsed?"

Oh my god.

I then reported to work. But they didn't make us work. They had us on standby, so to speak.

A few minutes later, we were told that the second tower had collapsed and that we could go home.

So I spent the rest of the day watching news coverage on TV. Man, what an awful day that was.

i was terrified before i knew what exactly was going on. i heard stuff about how the twin towers collapsed after being intentionally hit by planes, the white house was evacuated, all the airports shut down, i didnt have the whole story straight and i was so scared. my dad was out of the state and i didnt know what was gonna happen next. when i came to class everyone was listening to the radio about what happened. a lady was on there panicking and crying at one point and saying "my husband works on the 61st floor but not anymoe because the 61st floor dowsnt exist!" then moments later he apparently came to her and she kept saying "oh my god! oh my god!" when i got home i watched the news for the rest of the day and since i had my facts straight i felt better about it. i'm still really interested in learning about what happened.

I was in the 5th grade when this happened. We had just gotten into school and we sat down and my teacher was talking about something, and the loudspeaker asked for one of my classmates to come to the office to leave. Then all of a sudden alot of kids were starting to leave, and it was freaking me out. My friend Alex's dad came up to the classroom to pick her up and my teacher asked what was going on. He said that a plane crashed into the Twin Towers. That kinda explained why everyone was leaving, their parents were scared that something else was gonna happen so they took them out of school.

I was at work when a co-worker heard it on the radio and told me about it. We worked with a bunch of Bosnian refugees at the time and coming from a war torn country they were naturally quite concerned. Some of them were crying and upset so the boss let them go home right away. When I got home my TV cable wasn't working due to a storm the previous weekend so I just sat and listned to the coverage on the radio until the cable repairman got to my house.

I was in Reading in 6th grade (bleh) then at the end of the day we had an assembly and the principal said that we would be leaving early. At first I was pshyced but then she said "some terrible things have been happening in the world today"
At first I thought people were dropping bombs on the buildings but then after going home and watching the news my mom got some info. I thought she was crazy to be laying out on the deck sun tanning. I thought they were gonna drop bombs on our houses. Before hand I went home on the bus and all the kids were saying that we we're gonna die. I never heard of people purposely crashing planes into buildings.
Then I went to my friends house when she lived down the street from me, I remember sitting with her waiting for her dad to come home from where he was just outside of New York and how relieved she and her mom were when he came and talked about what had happened. I still was a little confused at what happened.
When I got home I wanted to watch the news with my parents but they said "oh this is boring, you can watch cartoons if you want." But I didn't and I remember watching George Bush speaking that famous tear jerking speech that night. Everyone was quiet when we heard that. I remember the next day going to school and everyone saying that it was the beginning of World War 3.

It's funny how clearly you remember things like that.

you can call my apathy unpatriotic, but had the whole nation not given a ****, like me, the terrorist attack would have been much less succesful

At any rate, said terrorists obviously werent looking for a body count, if they were they would have waited until a bit later in the day when the offices were completely full and various tourists were around the base of the tower, etc.

No, what they wanted to accomplish, and did so very succesfully, was to disrupt our lives and economy, which, through our fear, we let them do. I mean, the deathtoll on 9/11 was the same as the people who die in car wrecks every day, not that significant.

That said, if I lived in New York, I would have been scared as hell, but I didnt feel unsafe for a minute.

I called work and asked some of my coworkers if they seen it, I think just about everyone was on the phone calling near dear ones. I still cry when I think about it, what a terrible ordeal that had to be for those who died and the loved ones left behind. That was a prety prominent land mark in NY, my grandma was from there and we had pictures of it all over her house, had she still been around she would have been in shock. I still am, part of me wants so badly to beleive it is still there.

I remember my mom getting quite angry with me over the next few weeks, because I wouldnt participate in well...anything.

Tell that to the families of the victims. I didn't know anyone who died on 9/11, but I felt like I did.

I was in fifth grade. I remember we went out for recess and my gym teacher told everyone that a plane crashed into the world trade center. I didn't find out it was a terrorist attack until I got home. Then a bunch on my sisters friends came over and we all went up to skyline drive and saw the smoke rising over the mountains.

I agree saying you don't care about something like this says alot about you. If I felt like that I never would have posted in this thread you are just asking for someone to flame you.

I was in 3rd grade. It was recess and I've been playing soccer. I noticed one of the moniters blew the whistle for lunch and I thought "What the hell? It's only been like 10 minutes out here" Then my teacher said there has been a terroist attack in NY, I was shocked a bit, but then i thought "What the hell is a terroist attack?" Then one of my classmates explained and school was dismissed early and I didn't know how serious it was until the news was practically on every channel.

I was at home actually contemplating whether or not to go into Manhattan for a job fair land listening to the radio when all of a sudden one of the guys came in saying something about a a plane hitting a building. At first I though it was another of those small planes that kept getting into crashes during that time. Then everybody started to get hysterical When it was discovered that it hit the WTC and there was 2 big 757 that hit it and another 2 was missing. When I turned on my local news I saw that all hell broke loose. Saying that this was the worst day in history is an understatment,. I never felt so scared, helpless and out of control in all my life. The worst part was that my mother went to work that day but thank God she worked in The Bronx where we lived I was never so happy in all my years to see her walk through that door knowing so many people will never ever be able to the same thing. those who lost their lives in such a selfish hedious way. Just like those people who lost their love ones in Russia I don't care what your agenda is. To do something that evil make your cause no matter how valid it may invalid because to kill inocent human beings that have no control of changing whatever wrong you feel done to you. I'm sorry I did not mean to write this much but it hurts when I think about it . I use to be able see the Twin Towers from the Bronx depending on where I went before I relocated to California. Now Empire State Building looks lonely. Again sorry for the long post.

I was sleeping late, as I usually do, and when I turned on my
television in the downstairs basement I saw a recap of the
mornings event on Fox News Channel. I remember a group
of Republicans and Democrats standing on the steps of the
capitol building singing God Bless America.

This is an old thread and I'm sure I posted someplace on another thread that I was in lower Manhattan on 9/11 and saw the planes hit the buildings. Fortunately I was far enough away that it turned out I wasn't in danger, but of course no one knew that at the time. We waited all day for more attacks to come.
