View Full Version : "Come Back Little Shiska"
"i'm a detective, i detect things".
maddie has left for chicago without telling dave. she's with her parents.
john goodman guest stars here as a man looking for a woman. bert helps dave on the case.
maddie tells her folks she is in town indefinitley. she calls dave and tells him where she is but to not call. and to give her space.
loved the claymation sequence. i hate claymation, but it was the dialog and choice of figures they were given for this conversation that was so good about it..
i also loved the time with maddie and her mother in the car. a great scene.
rating: 5
Tazmania 09-06-2004, 05:01 PM I agree on the scene in the car, but for me that's as good as it gets.
I thought the claymation was a little too much, allthough it was well made.
What I liked about that scene was Maddie's voice in the end saying " I miss you too".
But I missed her at Blue Moon and from there on I don't like to watch the following epi's untill she comes back.
kismet 09-06-2004, 05:45 PM I agree with Taz. I don't enjoy any episode that doesn't include face to face acting with David/Bruce and Maddie/Cybill.
I am a John Goodman fan, BUT I didn't like this episode very much.
I'm a little different than most of you -- besides Father Knows Last, the next episode that I love is A Womb With A View. I don't like any of the Walter episodes much. I found most of them painful to watch (except for the smashing of the window with a tricycle scene of course).
The case made kind of an interesting parallel to David and Maddie but I hated seeing David being set up for such a fall. I think he came in the office believing he'd talked Maddie into working things out with him. Then as the time ticks by, you see him start to worry. Notice how Mrs. Hayes seems to sense right away that Maddie has an issue with David when her Dad first asks about her 'business partner'.
pmarier 09-07-2004, 01:32 AM i think this is the one where agnes comes into the office dancing to "do you think i'm sexy?". i thought that part was funny.
CindyK 09-07-2004, 02:43 PM I acutally like this episode. It is one of my favs from season four.
The Claymation sequence is really good and its fun. And David transhing the car is so right on as far as his character goes. He just has to let off steam. And he would never strike Maddie...so he strikes out at her vicariously....yet he is mostly destructive to himself. And he is very very frustrated.
This is another one of the great parallel cases in the show. I love that what Donald Chase (John Goodman) says in so many ways reflects what David is thinking.
david&maddie4ever 09-07-2004, 08:19 PM I don't really remember this episode at all, but this:

I agree with! :p
BTW: What was the scene with Maddie and her mom about?
the conversation with maddie and her mom was just her mom telling a story about someone who's false teeth flew out of this mouth in a public setting. they were just laughing about that. all it was, was just a realistic moment that two people would share talking about people they know, catching up on old times. it was just a good bit of dialog. and good chemstry between two fine actresses.
what i liked about it most was that it was realistic conversation completely not about the storylines at all. just normal stuff.
david&maddie4ever 09-07-2004, 10:25 PM Wow, that doesn't even ring a bell. Sounds good, though. :p
Dutchie 09-09-2004, 10:47 AM Ya know what's stupid? This was the last episode they aired in Holland. Maddie never came back to LA for me. She's still in Chicago. Don't ya think that's stupid! Veronica, why where you so bad to get canceled? And why didn't you put Moonlighting back on the air when you came back@!*&^@)*^%
I haven't watched this episode since it aired first time round so I can hardly remember it except for the claymation which I know I didn't like. I was about 16 and thought I was too sophisticated  for animation! Looking forward to seeing it again, I think I'll enjoy it all so much more this time round
Yes, I was correct - I did enjoy the claymation this time :D
And I felt so bad for David :(
gypsygem81 02-19-2005, 02:49 PM This was a really sad episode! I'm depressed now! I liked it though - I liked the fairytale themes, especially with the dream sequence and Maddie turns into a witch and then into a princess to kiss David, the frog.

SweetCakes 02-19-2005, 03:00 PM I didn't really like this episode much. There were so many bits of it that just 'jarred' for me.
I thought the claymation stuff was clever but I couldn't understand whether it was supposed to be in David's imagination or whether it was real. Because I know Moonlighting have done some weird stuff, I just couldn't see them having a phone receiver take on Maddie-like characteristics. *shrugs*
I hated the scene with David trashing Maddie's car. I know that he's mad with her any everything but I just didn't like the scene. It was too aggressive. It almost frightened me with the force of David's feelings.
And the case itself I just did not understand.
The only scene I really liked was the one with Maddie and her mum in the car. And even then I thought it was a bit weird - it didn't look like Maddie laughing because I'm not used to seeing her laugh that much. To me it looked more like Cybill laughing.
Yeah, I didn't think much of this episode, did I?!
Emma,
I was about your age the first time i watched this one and I didn't really like it either  I had to wait 15 years or thereabouts to like it.
Sorry I don't mean to sound patronising, I just think that now I am the same age as the characters I can identify with them a lot more and therefore understand the show better. That makes me love it even more :)
Keep watching lots & lots of Moonlighting, you can never watch too much

This episode is more serious and quite sad. It sets the tone for most of the fourth season. But I do love the scene with David trashing the car. He was hurting so much then, he just had to let it out. Remember when out of frustration he trashed his office in I am Curious....Maddie or the restroom in Brother Can You Spare a Blonde.
Yes, it is very destructive what David did to the car, but ..... I really symphatize and feel for him. His feelings for Maddie are so intense, his world is just crashing down.
gypsygem81 02-20-2005, 05:15 AM Yeah, I really liked the car scene. Not as in found it enjoyable to watch, but effective. It was pretty shocking and extreme, but this is done on purpose, not to make David look violent or mean towards Maddie, but to reflect the intensity of how he feels for her. And at first I was thinking, she's gonna go mental when she finds out. But then you mentioned the time where he trashed his office, and I thought she would have gone mental at that, but she didn't. In fact she went back to tidy it up. At least she started to tidy it up, then decided to go and get hammered with Agnes instead. But the thought was there.
And I don't know if she goes mental or not because I've not seen the following episode yet.

Oh really?!! I absolutely loved the claymation sequence, I remember watching it when it originally aired and I had to laugh out loud, David looked kind of funny and when Maddie kissed him and he sat there on the desk, the real Dave, like a frog...then again I love Wallace & Grommit so that might explain it - just that it didn't exist at that time  oops...
