View Full Version : Hopefully the producers were smart....
barwars 09-05-2004, 08:36 AM and made the characters around Joey funnier than Joey himself.
I really hope Joey isn't the only character delivering jokes while the other 3 play straight-men.
Brian Damage 09-05-2004, 12:45 PM We shall see.
barwars 09-09-2004, 08:46 PM at least in the pilot.... Joey seemed to be the character to get the biggest laughs.
I still liked it, but I hope they make the sister and neighbor funnier.
The nephew was good.... but good god, kill the agent!!

I hope they quit w/ the boob job jokes (too many) and the writers develop Joey more... give him some brains. Its hard to have a dumb character be the lead of a show. It would be like Ted Baxter starring in a MTM spinoff-- I doubt that would be good.

Haha, Ted was my favorite -- I would've watched taht.
But you're right, kill the boob job jokes.... and make Joey smarter.
When changing characters from supporting roles to stars, changes have to be made.
Still keep him a little dim-witted, but not a dumbass.

bingo! ;)
Chambers 09-09-2004, 09:25 PM They seriously need to make the other characters funnier. So far the nephew seems to have the most potential.
I never really thought of Joey as dumb.
He's not out of touch with reality like Jim from "Taxi" or brain dead like Buddy from "Charles In Charge."
His reactions to his crazy agent's ranting were very funny.
Dumb characters are never called upon to be the straight man in a scene.
I think the show would be wise to highlight Joey's street smarts, especially when faced with his new Hollywood surroundings.

 I've never thought of Joey as dumb either. Maybe slower than others, but Joey has street smarts, which is as important as book smarts.

 I would have watched a Ted spinoff, there's more to Ted than him being "dimwitted" and that could have been explored.
Personally I think spinoffs with characters Ted from MTM, Eric from Boy Meets World, and Lowell from Wingswould have been great, and interesting. Heck it would have been great if Cheers had done a spinoff of the Woody character(if Frasier hadn't come to be) :)

I disagree, I think the agent (played by Jennifer Coolidge) has some potential. The Unfunniest one in my opinion was his next door neighbor.
snl75 09-09-2004, 10:58 PM i thought it was pretty good i totally agree with the person who says they didnt like the agent she was annoying after about 30 seconds but joey is a fun carecather to watch and the show might work one thing i found was that as weird as it was to see joey without the other friends i at least wasnt thinking about them every miniute the show was on i found myself interested in what was happening to joey.

Oh yeah - completely agree. The lawyer woman was so dull.

....And the funny thing is, that role was recast. This actor is DULL, I can't imagine how the first one was.

And having her be married.... not the smartest thing.
But, in the vein of Friends -- it needs a soap-opera element.
I thought both she and the agent were unneccessary.
They should've created an entirely different character, that would incorporate both the neighbor and agent.... have her be Joey's agent, that lives next door.

I would love to see the original pilot with Ashley Scott (the original actress) playing the role. What the hell did she do to get replaced?
You're the pretty girl love interest on "Joey!"
You're not expected to do much!
Let's go down the list of things you must do:
A - Look pretty
B - Be totally oblivious to Joey's love for you
C - Cry at least once so Joey can comfort you
D- Have a fight with your husband, who we all know will be a total jackass, so you can kiss Joey by the season finale.
How hard is that?
;)
