We have all probably given out a Top 10 list of Moonlighting episodes. BUT which episodes are your least favorite, and maybe a WHY might be interesting?

In no particular order, some of my least favorites are:

From the 5th season. Maddie and David are so out of character and vicious with each other.

1. When Girls Collide
2. Eine Kleine Nacht Murder
3. Lunar Eclipse
4. Perfetc

From the 4th season when Maddie and David just sulked too much.

5. Take a Left at the Altar
6. Tale in Two Cities

Here are a few others I'm not crazy about.

7. Camille (too much Whoopi and Judd)
8. Under the Rainbow (again too much of an outside person)
9. Poltergeist III Dipesto Nothing (Agnes & Bert episode)
10. Ins n Outlaws (Agnes' dream was the only high point)

CyBr, I agree on all of them, except Eine Kleine Nachtmurder, I did like that one.
And ofcourse the couchscene in In' n Outlaws was very sexy.

I also didn't like Gunfight at the So-So Coral, it was still a little too amateur for me.

I think we can all find something in every episode to like (except maybe Poltergeist for me) -- but sometimes an episode leaves such a bad taste in my mouth that I don't want to watch it over and over and over again like I do my favorite episodes.

Two come to mind almost immediately:

Somewhere Under The Rainbow - I thought the story was so lame.
Camille - the chase scene was too slapstick for me, plus someone discussed on another thread that too much time was placed on Whoopie's character and not enough on David and Maddie.

There are a couple of others but I will have to think about it some more.

You're right Kis, It's hard to NOT like a whole episode, everyone of them has something funny or lovely or charming.

Tough one.........

I hate Lunar Eclipse....it just feels so wrong to me. I know a lot of people like the ending with the two of them sitting on the church steps and then there is that montage.....but I don't like the fact that they have very little to say to each other....David hardly says a word and we all know how chatty he usually is. Plus I just hate that stupid wedding--it is ridiculous and then is truncated very quickly to get to the end of the series. The whole episode felt rushed and sloppy.

Camille has never been one of my favorites either. So much time and effort goes into establishing the story of Camille, that not much is happening at all at Blue Moon.

And Perfetc has the absolute stupidest chase scene....I just don't even like to watch it, it makes me squirm. And that case and investigation bores me too.

I liked the chase scene in Perfetc - different sense of humour  I suppose! And its one of the few episodes I have on tape.

Roll on the start of ABC1 in the UK so I can see some more episodes!

I didn't like the chase scene in 'Perfetc' either. David, in particular, was far too clownish. The other thing in that one that grates on me is the car scene where David says, "That's why it didn't work, Maddie. We've talked it to death." Not on camera, they didn't!

As for 'Lunar Eclipse'... Well, don't even get me started!

I liked some of Perfetc because Cybill looked great in it. Up to that point in season 5, Cybill seemed like she was dressed quite matronly most of the time.

The chase was silly - and childish - the sexual innuendos with the lips/lipstick were gross.

Tazmania
09-04-2004, 03:30 PM
What's matronly? Like bossy??

kismet
09-04-2004, 03:34 PM
Matronly means "older". She was usually covered up to the neck with dresses that did not flatter her.

She was not heavy - but the dresses gave her no shape except for a little bit of a waist.

By the way, Taz, I never received it.

CyBr
09-04-2004, 03:49 PM
Yes, for some reason they wanted to cover her up in the 5th season and also put her in long jackets a lot. Not flattering.

As for the sexual innuendo in much of the 5th season... I thought a lot of it fell flat because what was cute in the earlier seasons made no sense after they had already had a physical relationship.

for me i always pretend that moonlighting ended at the end of the 3rd season and the 4th and 5th don't exist. i heard that in italy, they only showed the first 3 seasons, and i really admire the italian that made that decision.
so in the first 3 seasons i'd have to say the poltergiest one is the worse.

I really dislike the episodes that focus on Agnes and Bert. I know there are little scenes during these between Cyb and Bruce that are great, but as Kis said, sometimes I don't want to re-watch these episodes just for a little Maddie/David chemistry.

Other than those, I never liked "Camille." As everybody else has said, TOO MUCH WHOOPI! ohno:

Love your avatar Kismet!!!

The eps I don't like much:

*Somewhere under the rainbow (the worst Irish accent in HISTORY! as well as a stupid and lame story)

*Lunar Eclipse - what was it all about, such a let down.

All of the others I can see a decent bit in it somewhere....even tho I'm not a huge fan of series 5!

Thank you. I couldn't have done it without Taz.

Lunar Eclipse is one of my least favs. I liked the end because they showed so many great clips together, but I can't watch them because they make my cry. It reminds me they they ALL wasted some great opportunities to have a great final season. I found most of that episode very painful to watch (because it seemed so caustic also) so therefore I never watch it unless I need to verify a quote.

Somewhere Under The Rainbow was just a ridiculous piece of fluff that was beneath the show. It seemed that the writers got a little tired towards the end of the season IMO.

Actually Kis... your avatar is the moment Bruce says:

" I love you"

hihihihi  (*CY*)

Oh no, now I feel like an outcast :notworthy being the only one to enjoy that chase scene.

I obviously need to get more sophisticated; and to watch some more episodes - roll on 27 September and ABC1

:o :o :o :o :o

Oh Tamm. Don't feel bad. Everyone has different tastes.

There are plenty of controversial choices concerning Moonlighting... I am one of the few that loves Womb with A View....a lot of fans just hate that episode. And I disagree with a lot of the fans about Sam Crawford. I think he is only surface pretty, but not a nice person underneath. Many fans think he is Mr. Perfect. So we all have differences concerning what we like or don't so please don't apologize.

Maybe I do have some taste after all; I love Womb with a View too. Hey of course I have good taste, I am a Moonlighting fan

You're not alone here! ME TOO! Just the end that makes me sad!

kismet
09-08-2004, 04:59 PM
I love the first half of A Womb With A View -- I just love it when Jerome describes Baby Hayes' parents to him. But at the end of the dance scene, the episode takes such an abrupt turnaround for me that, even to this day, I cannot watch it. Tears come to my eyes just thinking about it.

Yeah Kis, know what you mean, its horrible, and very real acting of Cyb.
You can almost feel her pain!

Tamm

It always makes me cry. But that's part of the greatness of Moonlighting, that it can move such strong feelings in its viewers - even if sometimes they seem to be hate for an episode - and feelings that can last for so many years.

Tazmania
09-08-2004, 05:16 PM
Got that right Tamm!
These feelings were pushed aside by me for several years, but now I've got them all back since I became cyberfriends with all you guys on these sites and started watching my tapes again!

I'm really ,truly addicted again!

Guess it never, ever really goes away.

Tamm

Me too. I'd almost forgotten about Moonlighting (how could I?!) when I came across the video set in a shop and remembered I used to like the show so treated myself to them. I have watched those videos so many times in the last 18 months:crazy:

I, too, love "WWAV." From the very beginning, I listed it as one of my favorite episodes. There are many different reasons why people like and dislike it, but I just really appreciated the acting job by Cyb. That made it for me. Of course, the story was sad, but ya gotta have something like that every once in a while. It shakes things up.

Maybe we should bump up Bobby's "WWAV" thread and discuss it over there. :p

Over this weekend I have watched When Girls Collide, Eine Kleine nacht Murder and Lunar Eclipse.

As someone has already said all 3 have small redeeming moments which means you can't hate them. But why has the UK video release got them in when there are so many great episodes earlier which are not there? I feel very dissatisfied after watching them.

kismet
09-11-2004, 10:11 PM
Just a quick question -- the Moonlighting videos that you can buy -- are they from a certain company or are they taped by fans?

In The U.S., I have never seen any ML episode available to buy except for the pilot. Why should they be available in Europe or even just in the U.K.)? Do they have the entire episode on them, or did some enterprising company tape them off the television repeats and make them available to fans?

I think it's great that you are able to buy them, but why not us?

Dutchie
09-12-2004, 03:18 AM
Well, we also have the Pilot in Holland and no other tapes. I bought the others I have from Amazon. When I was in London and asked in a few stores if they had any tapes from Moonlighting, but they didn't have them either...

Tamm

In the UK you can buy a boxed set of videos.
It contains -
The Pilot; Lady in the Iron Mask; Womb With A View; Those Lips, Those Lies; Perfetc; When Girls Collide; Eine Kleine Nacht Murder and Lunar Eclipse. I think you can also get a DVD with the Pilot and a couple of episodes.
They are by Universal in the Playback series and I got them in HMV about 18 months ago, I think they still stock them.

However as I said already, weird choice of episodes and not all representative of the series. These are the only episodes I have seen since the 1980s which probably explains why I like things everyone else doesn't

kismet
09-12-2004, 09:01 AM
That is such a strange assortment to offer. It makes you wonder why those few episodes were chosen; and they include the final trilogy (yuck) before having the best of the best available.

Do they include outtakes or any extras?

Tamm
09-12-2004, 09:20 AM
No extras of any kind on the videos :( . I don't know about the DVD  but I suspect it doesn't either.

So, it's really only in the U.K., not even in the rest of Europe? Is Moonlighting extremely popular there?

I guess they are not compatible with my system here. If the DVDs fall through, I'm in bad shape. My tapes are in terrible condition from overuse and bad tracking, plus I can't find my season 2 tape anywhere.

Tamm

I suppose Monlighting is popular here.

There was recently a letter in the free newspaper that is distributed on public transport in the UK asking if anyone else remembered the show  but I didn't see any replies published

Hi guys,
gotta agree with Pmarier.
As someone who watched the show during its original run and loved it, the seasons after 3 were such a letdown. Any ep after Dave and Maddie hooked up was like another show. I loved Moonlighting for the kooky dialogue, the fun David, the verbal sparring between the 2, not the soap opera it became. Hell, I coulda watched Dynasty for that.

And I kinda liked "Somewhere Under the Rainbow", with it's talk of "leprechauns are magic, fairytales are magic"
