I have one of their CDs, "Start Static".... its pretty good. Mossopp 09-03-2004, 03:17 PM I love Sugarcult. I have both their albums and I saw 'em play live at the Glasgow Garage in June. It was one of the best gigs I've ever been to. Tim Pagnotta is a great frontman - the way he had the entire crowd in the palm of his hand was truly amazing. I have been informed that Sugarcult aren't considered particularly "cool" in America but there's no shame in saying you like them in Scotland. As "pop-punk" goes you really can't get any better than Sugarcult IMO. BTW MaydayMalonesGirl: I just noticed your avatar. It's great to see another Ataris fan here! :D AllIWantIsYourClutch 09-03-2004, 08:22 PM Originally posted by Mossopp BTW MaydayMalonesGirl: I just noticed your avatar. It's great to see another Ataris fan here! :D Everything is all McMusic in the States (like "McDonaldland" music). It's all corporate crap. We're still hung over from the Limp Korn Bizkits lying about in Linkin Park. :barf: One station here in Seattle, The End, has banned Limp Bizkit. Mossopp 09-04-2004, 07:31 PM If anyone gives a sh#t, I wrote a review of the Sugarcult gig on another forum. Here it is: "Last night (20 June '04) I went to see Sugarcult at the Garage in Glasgow and it was ****ing awesome!! The lineup was unfortunately cut short because of the stupid 10pm curfew which meant that support band Fool Proof never got to play. Instead support came in the form of The Fight (who were pretty damn cool), and Cardia (who had delusions of being the American version of Muse but actually sounded 10 times worse!). For some strange reason the venue appeared to be completely dry and I couldn’t get a pint for love nor money so I resigned myself to sobriety and just grit my teeth through Cardia’s set. I thought about hunting around to find the source of the booze that was being delivered to the lucky gits up on the balcony shortly before Sugarcult came on, but just before they were due to play I saw the perfect opportunity to get the best seat in the house! I dunno if anyone here has ever been to The Garage, but on the right, from the front to about halfway up the hall, there is a ledge jutting out of the wall about 4 and a half feet up from floor level. I guess it’s meant for putting your drinks on but there’s a little groove in the wall just underneath it and if you can get your foot into it you can haul yourself up so you’re sitting on this ledge! Just before Sugarcult came on, everyone who was milling around the ledge went into the crowd so I was like “Result!!” and jumped up on the ledge and got myself the perfect view! So, I’m sitting on this ledge all throughout the gig which was really cool cos I can see right over everybody’s head – even the tallest people! It’s really cool to actually be able to observe the crowd aswell. About halfway through the gig, singer Tim Pagnotta told everyone to crouch down on the floor and pretend that they were “horny little hamsters”. Bizarrely, everyone complied with this rather odd request and the whole venue was kneeling down on the floor. The guitarist then started to play the intro to ‘Stuck In America’. Tim then made a sweeping upward gesture with his hand and the drummer and the bassist came crashing in and the whole venue just simultaneously leapt to its feet and went ****ing crazy! It sounds silly but it really was an amazing sight. So anyway, to cut a long – and no doubt, boring – story short, Sugarcult ruled! It was an absolutely awesome gig despite the stupid curfew. My only regret is that I didn’t speak to the bass player, Arin, when he walked right past me outside on the street. It didn’t really register with me who he was until he was gone - *doh!* Still, they’re coming back in September so there’s always next time. I’m still on the hunt to get Tim Pagnotta’s autograph and I really want to speak to the guitarist, Marko, cos he used to be in The Ataris who are my favourite band ever…" Polniaczek033 09-04-2004, 09:45 PM Sugarcult owns. Kitt 09-05-2004, 10:26 AM Originally posted by Mossopp Do you know how they got that name? ;) :D Umm, nope, I don't know how they got that name. How did they? Mossopp 09-05-2004, 10:48 AM Originally posted by Kitt Umm, nope, I don't know how they got that name. How did they? The lead singer, Tim Pagnotta, used to live next door to a group of lesbians who called themselves "The Sugarcult". Tim - as most men would be  - was fascinated by these women so he decided to name his band after them! Kitt 09-05-2004, 03:54 PM Okay, thanks for the answer.:) Seems logical enough to me that "most men" would be interested in, if not fascinated by, a houseful of lesbians, especially since they chose to call themselves Sugarcult. Not really an eyeroller.:roller:  |
