ABC1 will launch September 27 in the United Kindom as a digital cable channel on the Freeview system and air from 6am to 6pm. So anyone out there here on the boards from the London area, here are the highlights and a prelim. launch line-up that is tentative:

Once and Again:
Emmy-winner Sela Ward (The Day After Tomorrow) and Billy Campbell star in this compelling drama which follows the lives of two people tending emotional wounds from recent divorces whilst struggling to be good parents. Both are convinced that romance is a thing of the past until they meet each other and find themselves falling in love. But their kids, who are hoping for parental reconciliation, threaten their fragile romance, along with intrusive ex-spouses and demanding careers. Edward Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz (thirtysomething) have created a compelling drama with characters that seem to have stepped straight out of real life.

Sports Night:
This award-winning comedy drama drops viewers right in the middle of the chaos, behind the scenes of a cable sports network. Dan Rydell and Casey McCall are the anchors for ‘Sports Night’, a popular sports wrap show on the perennially third-place Continental Sports Channel. On the other side of the cameras, their co workers scramble to keep the show running as smoothly as possible. The pithy scripts and gripping story lines have all the trademark skill of executive producer/writer Aaron Sorkin (West Wing). Each episode is brought to life by an exceptional cast, including Isaac Jaffee (Benson) and Peter Krause (Nate Fisher in Six Feet Under).

Moonlighting:
Maddie Hayes (Cybill Shephard, Cybill) is a former successful model who has fallen on hard times since her business manager has robbed her blind. As she sells-off her investments she discovers she owns a detective agency and crosses paths with David Addison (Bruce Willis, The Sixth Sense), a brash, self-styled private eye, who isn’t keen to be put out of a job. His plan is to make Maddie his active partner and keep the company going. Maddie and David are complete opposites in every way. They never agree on anything, they can’t help fighting, yet despite their differences, they discover a strong attraction for each other. Could it be love?

The Geena Davis Show:
Academy Award winner Geena Davis (Thelma and Louise) is the star of this refreshing comedy alongside Peter Horton (thirtysomething). Teddie Cochran (Davis) finds her successful single New York lifestyle is turned on its head when she meets the man of her dreams, Max (Horton), a suburban widower with two children. Her family now consists of an emotional six year-old girl, an unpredictable teenager and a hostile housekeeper. Out go the yellow cabs, in comes a mammoth sports utility vehicle. The occasional Martini is replaced by peanut butter sandwiches. Luckily, Teddie relies on her own brand of sarcastic humour and a lot of patience to help her through this juggling act.

Home Improvement:
Tim Taylor (Tim Allen) is the know-it-all master handyman who hosts ‘Tool Time’, a local cable home improvement show. With his hefty tool belt and an endless variety of power tools, Tim approaches every project as an opportunity to reaffirm his masculinity. However, the fun really begins at home with Jill (Patricia Richardson), his loving wife of 11 years, who knows her husband too well and constantly battles to keep him away from the home appliances. As the mother of three sons, Brad (Zachery Ty Bryan), Randy (Jonathan Taylor Thomas) and Mark (Taran Smith), Jill has her hands full dealing with mischievous boys, and grown up ones too.

8 Simple Rules:
Paul Henessey (John Ritter, Three's Company) has grown accustomed to his wife Cate (Katey Sagal, Married with Children) staying at home to take care of their son and two daughters whilst his job as a sports writer keeps him on the road. But when Cate decides to return to work as a hospital nurse, Paul has to take a job as a columnist and share the responsibility of raising the kids, only to realise that he has grown a little out of touch with them, especially his daughters! Sixteen-year-old Bridget (Kaley Cuoco) has matured into a beautiful and popular teenager with a different boyfriend each week and a flair for fashion a little too revealing for her father’s taste. As for fifteen-year-old Kerry (Amy Davidson), she’s intelligent and cute, but her lack of self-confidence leaves her hiding behind a mask of sarcasm. Despite their differences, their priorities are the same: dating boys and fitting in with their peers. Thankfully for Paul, 13-year-old Rory (Martin Spanjers, Daddio) has remained seemingly normal - well, for the moment anyway! 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter is based on W. Bruce’s bestselling book by the same title and is directed by Tom Shadyac (Ace Ventura, Liar Liar).

Ellen:
This custom-written role showcases Ellen DeGeneres’ unique wit and wry humour in her first starring role in a television series. She plays Ellen Morgan, a neurotic thirty-something, bookstore employee who tries to get by in life dealing with her various complicated friends. Among the demanding bunch are outgoing redhead Paige, insecure photographer Adam, her unsure-of-himself cousin Spence, coffee shop guy Joe Farrell, the critical and obnoxious Audrey and most challenging of all, Ellen also has to contend with being around her annoying and overbearing parents, Lois and Harold.

Why can't we get channels that are commercial free and the shows unedited? :cuss:

Thanks though Pav, sounds like a great channel, and a great schedule :)

I hope that someday, ABC-1 will become a 24-hour channel. The launch will be a 12-hour channel from 6 AM to 6 PM. Just like Disney Channel when it first launched 21 years ago when it was a 15-hour channel.

This is in the UK, not the United States.

I'm in the US right now but not in the UK. I don't live in the UK and watch ABC-1 until September 27th. My Time Warner Cable in Kingston, NY doesn't get ABC-1 until or after the launch or probably not available in all areas.

What the hell, lol? Of course Time Warner in NY won't get this channel. What part of the UK do you not understand? The UK is not in the USA! It is another country. I hope you know that. I think you do, but you just have some English problems, I've noticed. For some things, you should not reply to, lol. You're making a fool of yourself most of the time.

Just to make it clear. UK = United Kingdom, aka England.

???

So your from the UK? Sounds like Londener English to me.

NY- New York? I am pretty sure thats in the USA , Time Warner Cable - If they were picking up the channel for some Bizarre reason 1. Pav would have likely told us , 2.Why would they? Every single show on the Line-up is probably airing on some Syndicate Network in the US (except 8 Rules , and a few others , But you can watch them on their main network)

Now what confuses me the most

I'm in the US right now but not in the UK

Well if you are in the US right now , Its pretty obvious you are not in the UK.

I don't live in the UK and watch ABC-1 until September 27th.
Lets try put that into some form of english

I do not live in the UK , and I do not watch ABC-1 until September 27th.

Obviosly you will not watch it until September 27th , It has not launched , and since who knows where you live , I doubt you will ever get to see the station

I picked up New York , it was subtle but I grasped it:) , He lives in the US , he is in the US , yet somehow UK got in there? The only way he will get that station is if he gets a HUGE sattelite dish , Or gets allot of mirrors set up to reflect somebody's TV box over The Pacific Ocean (is it the Pacfic? I suck at Geo). Unless he thinks ABC-1 will launch in US? Which is obsurd since its really just ABC & ABC FAMILY put together , and all shows on there are likely to be airing in Syndication or not in the US now.

Raisingdad2004

NTSC? Yeah , but I usually do not burn to DVD , just leave it on my Computer. A normal episode comes out around 230 MB. I am using about 20GB of space with TV shows I taped.

Howcome the website has not launched yet , ABC1.TV looks to amatuer , and for some reason ABC1 has not released its shedules to the Press (when I say Shedule I mean Daily Listings , in the UK it is law for Terrestrial stations to release them atleast 13 days before airing , not sure about Sattelite , but I get Disney Channel UK listings 13 days before airing , some channels provide Monthly or 3 week).

Is it still going ahead?

I think it is because it now has a Place Holder on Freeview 15
