View Full Version : Did you notice that the characters "grew"

Something that bothers me in alot of shows, is that it seems like many of the characters dont seem to mature or evolve as people. In many shows (Married With Children is a great example of this) the characters are made more extreme later on and thus become annoying.

I think that in Cheers, the characters seem to really change and grow throughout the course of the series (except for Cliff, who seems to actually recede to more of a child like state)

Did anyone else notice that the things that went on during the show seemed to actually have an affect on the characters and how they dealt with life etc

I guess I just think it is an impressive trait for the show

They all grew, well besides Norm, but that's the beauty of Norm.
Whether it was good (Frasier, Woody) or bad (Rebecca, Cliff).... they all changed.

But still, they didn't change the dynamic of the series.
Whereas on Frasier, both Niles and Daphne grew, but changed the entire focus of the show.

To me Sam got dumber and more whoreish. He would have been a leading candidate for AIDS. Plus it seems during the series Ted Danson put on some weight. If you notice he was wearing looser shirts to hide his gut in the later seasons.

later on sam started to realize his age and started to want to ask at least kind of mature. A good example is the episode when he is in the contest with Henri and he leaves the girl alone when she says she doesnt want to be picked up

You get old you gain weight.
It happens to 90% of the population.

I think Rebecca was the one who really changed more into a cartoon character later in the show's run.
