View Full Version : Could this have been the reason John Amos was not seen in-"J.J's In Trouble"?

John Amos was already upset that the producers gave J.J a chicken Hat and then after he was working at the Rib Shack, the producers gave J.J a hat with a Cow on Top. J.J put on the COW Hat for the first time at the end of the episode-"the Investigation"-(320) So since the episode-J.J in Trouble-(321) was next in production order, i'm guessing that could have been why Amos didn't want to show up for the following episode.

I always thought that the reason neither parent was in that episode was that neither John Amos or Esther Rolle agreed with how venereal disease was portrayed in the storyline. VD as it was called back then was a very controversial issue. It is the only episode I know of that had a parental advisory (this was when I saw it in syndication), so I figured Rolle and Amos balked at how the writers handled the subject matter.

Do you remember what station showed the parental advisory? I didn't think it was shown in syndication.

WPIX ch 11 in the NYC area. This was in the early 80s (Good Times was shown beginning in the fall of 1979 at about 4:30 in the afternoon when a lot of kids were watching.)

The "Parental Advisory" tag was prerecorded so it's there like glue How do I know? I saw it when the ep originally aired on CBS as a kid. I'm getting old guys :(
